I have been looking for a sub to match with my AR 26 which are awesome speakers, no longer available. They feature five drivers to each speaker and are scoustic suspension, with no ports. Hence they are extremely fast, but the low end is probably only down to 35 Hz. I have a a JVC 1050TN which is everything it was touted to be by the Absolute Sound and Stereophile, with a Nakamichi preamp, and a Classe 150 amp. I have combination of Kimber and Monster m1 cable. The system sounds wonderful as it is, but when mated with the Sunfire UNREAL. I have yet to find ANY system that I have enjoyed as much as this one, and although my system is a bit pricey, approximately 9,000, it is worth every penny. The Sunfire mates beautifully with the system and is not at all muddy. Incidentally, although I like Stereophile and TAS, and the Sensible Sound, I have yet to read any reviews of CAke's Fashion Nugget. This is an absolute must buy for anyone who likes talented musicians playing jazz/rock. The first song features the most realistic kickdrum sound I have ever heard, and I have over 400 cds. Also, Kraftwerk's Electric Cafe and The Mix, are two must buys for techno fans who REALLY want to see what their system's can do in presenting a HUGE soundstage and WALL OF SOUND. Sunfire Amplifier? Awesome and convenient, ought to match well with any audio system, and it WILL shake your room and rattle your walls, it puts the bass lock on your room that is both musical and thrilling. I had a friend of mine sit and listen to Fashion Nugget and he sat there with his mouth open. Said a few expletives and stared like a deer caught in headlights. He then turned to me and said the only time he has ever heard a drum sound like Cake's is when he was actually playing in a band and kicking the drum himself. Finally, I have been suspect of Carver for years having listened to many audiophiles criticize his efforts. Don't listen to the critics (actually on the Sub, I think there are quite a few fans, TAS and Sensible Sound are both credible sources and they are enthused), try the sub and Rock OUT! Or JAzz OUT! Or listen to Bach's Toccatta and Fugue in D Minor OUT! Peace.

A great, maybe fabulous idea, and clever amp/feedback design. Can't ever shake the feeling that there are only two 8"s working, though, and true movie level effects still make me worry. Would be great for a lesser powered system, say 75 watts and under to the mains. Can't keep up with my Luxman M117.

There is nothing that I can say of how truly amazed I am about this subwoofer. It plays louder than almost all the subs I have heard 6 times its size, and several
times louder and lower than most subs its price. Music is tight and accurate,
Explosions are powerful and clear. the best sub for any system !

I auditioned many subs. This one has best of all worlds: first, its so compact, second, its so deep and natural on video (AC-3), and third, it is so very tight and accurate on music! I couldn't pass it up; speciall since having a sub is almost a must with Dolby Digital (AC-3)!

This is a purely subjective review. I didn't measure anything, didn't calibrate my system, no a/b comparisons, just plain gut reaction.
This little beast rocks the ground you live in. I have no clue how much sound pressure it produces, but in 2,400 cubic feet, I don't want any more. It's loud, it's clean, it's musical and best of all, it creates the home theater experience. At $1050 it is about 1/5 what I've spent on my home theater, not a single other piece of equipment means as much to the phrase "Home Theater" than this powerful sub.

I have second guessed my purchases, virtually everyone of them; this one I have to say was a no brainer from the moment I hooked it up and it played its first bass note. During the "cars as bombs" scene in "Johnny Mnemonic," it moved the pictures on my walls, not to mention the floor and made me wonder if my neighbors were wondering what was going on in my house.

If you buy one, get ready for an experience. Grab your favorite cds of rock, jazz, organ music, big band, New Age, whatever you love, it'll be the best you've ever heard. I haven't been using cheap equipment, yet it was as if I was listening to the music for the first time. This sub breathes life into the music.

I want to comment on the 75 watt per channel stated by another reviewer. My system has a Carver tfm-15cb with 100 watts per channel and with this sub I feel as if my mains are underpowered when things really get rocking or are getting blown up...I had to back off the volume on the sub to lower than 1/2 way. So I think this baby could work well with 200-300 watts, maybe more, depending on room size (my room is 12'x23'x8'8"). Further, right now this puppy is sitting out in the open, not corner loaded and the bass is just fantastic.

I'm having fun, The Sunfire True Subwoofer gets my highest recommendation.

The best sub I've heard so far. I had a Velodyne VA-1215 and F-1200R before and it wasn't even close to the sunfire. The sound blends into your main speaker easily. It is very musical and also good for home theater.
The other advantage is the size. Most sub that can go really low eats up a lot of space.(i.e. F-1500). This sub is only an 11" cube.
Highly recomended for an audition.

THIS IS MY FIRST SUBWOOFER, BUT I LISTENED TO MANY OTHERS BEFORE DECIDING ON THE SUNFIRE. THE POWER OF THE SUNFIRE IS AMAZING AND THE SMALL SIZE (AN 11" CUBE) MAKES IT EVEN MORE AMAZING. ALTHOUGH IT IS A LITTLE PRICEY (I PAID $1075 PLUS TAX), I DON'T THINK ANYONE WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS IN THEIR HOME THEATRE SYSTEM. REO

I bought the Sunfire True Subwoofer in February. After having lived with them for several months and listening carefully to pipe organ music (J.S. Bach) string quartets, Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" and "Firebird" for kettle drums as well as some home theater sounds and Pop and Jazz, I would say that it handles all of them very well.
Also, it was definitely the best for its size by a wide margin (also the most expensive). If you have a spouse who won't give a Velodyne house room because of its size go for the Sunfire. The F1800 is the only one that can compete with it on volume and depth of bass and yes the Velodyne is a little clearer below about 30 hertz, but when you put the subwoofer in a real room with all the interactions and resonances you get with the walls, furniture and other things in the room you will be hard pressed to find any real world difference.

One reviewer complained about the clarity of the sound, I would be willing to bet that the subwoofer was simply out of phase with the main speakers. To test for this use a sound meter and a signal sweep. If the sound is down at any give frequency range the subwoofer is probably canceling out the bass from your main speakers, try adjusting the phase control.

A work of genious. The best bass response I've heard from a sub of it's size. HOWEVER, do an A/B test with a Paradigm Servo 15 and you'll quickly realize that the Servo15 is a superior sub.... but you have to have room for it. I am not downing the Sunfire, give it a 80 and the Paradigm servo15 a 95. The HSU TN2025 is the best value, without a doubt. Hundreds of dollars less and decibels higher at any frequency while maintaining musical tightness and a smooth bass response, I am sorry some of you are offended by the cardboard enclosure. Sunfire, design, I give it a 100... the most revolutionary sub in a while. Why an 80, quite simply... the sub is not musical. For a home theatre only system I'd bump my rating up to a 90, but make sure your main speakers can handle the 80 hz region. Good job Bob, now let's see what you can do with a big box and some distortion feedback.

Strength:

Size

Weakness:

Sound quality, dodgy built quality, boomy bass at best, not tigth and articulate as some of other subs

I have been very disappointed with my purchase of Sunfire products. I own the Sunfire Cinema Grand and Sunfire True Subwoofer.
First of all, when I purchase the subwoofer, the active driver blew!!! The driver peeled away from the glue making a clacking sound everytime there was bass. The second sub the amplifier failed, everytime I connect an interconnect there was buzzing introduced into the bass, making it unusable. Now my sub is collecting dust until I get the amp fixed. The built quality is very bad and poorly constructed, this is a $1000 boom box at best. The best subs are from MK, I have three of them and one of them dates back from 1988 and it still performs flawlessly. MK rules! The quality and ruggedness is the best in the bsuiness.
