Strength:
Amazing power and clarity. It thunders, but isn't sloppy.
Weakness:
It's big. It has a tendency to resonate anything not bolted down, but that's what it's supposed to do. I have built several subwoofers and was never satisfied with the results. If the sound was right, there wasn't enough power or vice versa. Also, I listened to the subs sold in stores and most of the time I thought that the subs were SLOPPY. I read all the reviews I could find on SVS and was very impressed. I corresponded with the owners, who were VERY helpful. Finally, I plunked down my money and ordered my SVS 20-39PC+ sub. I had a great time setting it up and have been very, very pleased with the results. My wife will tell you how hard I am to please. If there's anything wrong, I'll find it. Having said that, I'm completely satisfied with this product. It took me a LONG time (months) to turn up the volume to really push it to it's limits. It's kind of like having a Dodge Viper. You don't hit the gas unless you have a death wish. Well, after almost a year, I can finally see why someone would want two of these subwoofers, but for a long time I didn't understand. I should add, that I'm not into home theater, although this sub certainly shines at HT. This sub will reveal things that you didn't know were there in many recordings. This is a blessing and a curse. Most recordings were mixed with poor bass reproduction in mind. Does this mean that this sub is boomy? No, not at all. It means that the recording engineer decided to boost the bass for our bass poor comrades. How do I know this? I carefully calibrated this sub down to be flat down below 20Hz with an Audio Control Richter Scale III and a RS audio meter. (I didn't think the sub was working at 13Hz, and then I looked at my son's t-shirt who was standing next to the sub. It was waving like a flag in a breeze!) Also, I listen to live music and I believe this sub to faithfully reproduce what is on the CD. Lastly, I also like that this sub is built in USA of North American parts. Compare it's quality and sound for yourself. Similar Products Used: I auditioned several brands, the best of which were some of the Velodynes. |

Strength:
Clean pure bass, strong powerful bass, quick response, blends beautifully with the rest of my system. Able to go back through my DVD library and experience movies in a whole new way.
Weakness:
A bit large but then again my wife thinks it looks awesome! What an awesome subwoofer! Clean, powerful, and blends well. SVS is a great company offering a great product at the right price, which is hard to come by lately. I looked at several other powered subwoofers in the sub 1000$ price range and SVS by far and away "looked" to be the best. I bought it without ever listening to it before and it was better than anything I demoed. Just so you know this review was not solicated in any way and I don't work for SVS or know anyone there, heck I never sent an email to them just placed my order. I was nervious that all the reviews on the net were planted or it was a scam, I guess I'm paranoid that way. I'm letting you know those reviews are true these SUBS rock! I just wish I didn't wait so long to pull the trigger. I can FEEL movies and it just under 1/2 power. And SACD's sound awesome. Musical and movie sound in one sub clean down to 20hz (and below really)! More companies need to take after SVS. If you want the best bang for your buck subwoofer I would highly recommend SVS. Strength:
Can go low & loud, integrates well. Silent at idle (no audible amp/driver hum or hiss) No problems with the newer bass intensive DVD mixes (Titan AE, Toy Story 2)that bottom out/distort lesser subs. Small footprint - 16.5" diameter. Excellent build quality. Easy UK importation process. Inclusion of sub sonic filter is a bonus (anyone who understands ported sub design knows this a very useful feature) Ability to change frequency of port; block one or two ports. Great email support from SVS guys(Tom)- no BS either (will even recommend non SVS subs)
Weakness:
Tempation to put loud :-) Quite large at 40" high. Low WAF. For non US customers will have to buy blind, and personally import (and take the risks involved) I've been looking for a high quality, high output subwoofer for my AV system for a while now. For most DVD's my Rel Storm V1 is a great subwoofer- I've owned it for about 6 years now, and fares well for less explosive LFE mixes; however for some DVD's it just can't handle it. Anyone who's gone through Terminator 2 shotgun blasts, Titan A.E Intro/Ice Field, LOTR intro/Cave Troll/Balrog, Toy Story 2 Logo slam/intro/plane sequences will know what I'm talking about. Extremely loud and/or low bass that will probably invert most subwoofer drivers, or just sound bad. I considered the Paradigm Servo 15 (good value, but difficult to obtain & find replacement parts) M&K MX-xxx range (too expensive) Velodyne HGS range (too expensive) Basically ~£1000. I've been hearing of SVS for a while now. At first I thought it was just hype; however after reading at least a few sensible posts of people in the UK with identical subs to me who've upgraded and commenting the SVS is in a different league and technical reviews.I decided to risk it and import one. I'm surprised of the bass quality (and depth) of the SVS 20-39 PC Plus. For UK customers- total price (after shipping, VAT & Duty) was £710. For the price, this has got to be one of the best performing, affordable subwoofers around. A Rel Storm III is £900. For US customers this a even better bargain. Regarding the SVS comments below "destroying" their houses. I don't think so, unless they live in a badly built house; the SVS is great, but certainly isn't a nuclear bomb :) Compared to a Rel Storm- the SVS goes louder, is just as fast, has lower bass reproduction, has no port noise (even when pushed hard) or distortion like the Rel (TS2 intro was close to bottoming out the Rel, mainly port chuffing and the driver flapping all over the shop)The SVS handles this intro with ease. For AV it can pound out low & loud bass, reproducing sounds that lesser subs miss out (ie when Buzz hovers in TS2 intro) and without any worries that you'll damage the driver. In music I set to 40hz and it blends in well with my standmount music speakers. AV- bypass the sub xover and let the processor handle LFE set @ 80hz. And for people who are snobbish - and automatically think a Rel is better, guessing the SVS is a boomy one noted sub, because it's "too cheap"- Don't be. The SVS has exceeded my expectations, and then some. Toy Story 2 intro- Buzz weaving L/R in the canyon has tactile bass when the rockets are ignited. The crater opening scene is scary :-O I can heartily recommend this subwoofer to people who are looking for a good quality subwoofer that will undoubtedly outperform small low powered sealed box subwoofers. I will be comparing this sub against a M&K MX-350THX in the new year. :-) Similar Products Used: Rel Storm & Rel Q100E. Yamaha 40W mid-woofer. |

Strength:
Strong, Clean, Tight, and accurate bass.
Weakness:
Please, you got to be kidding! Introduction: First please note I don’t do reviews for a living, this is just my take. Well I came down with the upgradeitis when everyone stated talking about the PB2 +. All I kept hearing was great things and words like “Headroom” being type at fast rates. Ron suggested that I should go with (2) 20-39PC +in my 4000 cubic ft HT when I was trying to figure out what sub to get. I could only afford one sub at the time and let me tell you it is one heck of a sub, but I kept hearing Ron’s voice in my head “If possible, save up for at least a 20-39PC-Plus. A pair of them, bass requirements are VERY demanding in such a large and irregular room.” My dedicated HT is has a very unique shape, it is a bonus room over the garage. If any of you have one you know of what speak. About six month’s ago I turned a friend on to SVS and he too was impressed by my 20-39 so much he pick one up himself. Now he wants a PB2 + and I said me too, so here is our dilemma. He and I are the only two HT nuts we know of, so one of us was going to part with our current sub to get a PB2+. I had the money for another 20-39 and he was more than happy to sell oh and I LOVE twins so that brings us here my story of living with duals. Review: I love bass can’t get enough of it, but did not have an unlimited supply like I wanted. Even with the two powered 10's in my towers. I think some of us have those moments when you want to push your system on certain DVD’s with out that voice in your head telling you to be careful. We don’t want hear the dreaded CLACK noise, because you made your sub cry uncle. I wanted bass like I was getting, but I wanted it louder, stronger with out running out of gas. Well now I have that my friends with the twins! I have the room filling bass I always wanted and some to spare. After getting the subs dialed in, away I went with my demo of bass fill DVD’s we all know and love, here is a list of the usual suspects. • Blade II • Lord of the rings - Fellowship of the Ring - Extended Edition • The Haunting - DTS ES discrete version • U571 • We Were Soldiers • Titan A.E. • Matrix Reloaded – DTS (Hollywood Screener) • Finding Nemo - DTS (Hollywood Screener) I could not believe the kind output I was getting on these flicks now, the one movie that is still stuck in my head as I type this review is “The Haunting” The bass in this movie is by far the loudest next to Titan A.E. When playing the creaking pipes chapter or better known as the knocking on the door, the back wall of my HT actually was moving!! I was not close to reference and I got a 109db 18 ft away (fast, C weighting w/ no corrections) on the rat shack meter on the last knock. I was too scared to push it harder because I don’t think my house could take it. Titan A.E. was making the attic door in the hall opening and closing at a fast pace, my wife brought this to my attention and my response was cool! Finding Nemo when Darla is taping on the fish tank was crazy! My house cried uncle on this part of the movie. I 'm also in subsonic heaven, chapter 1 (Blade II) when the vampires tell the new breed of vampire, that they have bad news for him. While he was in the chair it is a very low, long, strong bass note that made my couch almost levitated. Music was flawless; they never drew attention to themselves. Very musical with anything I played on them. I can go on about movies and music, but you get the idea. I did say this would be short. Conclusion: I know it is a more expensive way to go, but I found it to be worth every penny IMO. I also would like to thank ED & Steve for their help on setting them up, it feels great that I don’t have to baby sit my sub anymore on any movie. If you come across a deal on another identical sub or have the same situation I was in. Go for it! I highly recommend it, duals rule. Some who visit me may think that two is overkill, but I will say this. One man’s overkill is another’s headroom! Thank you for your time. Weakness:
Tall Large diameter Volume control on back I have been using this sub for 6 months now. It is used in a 24' X 24' room with 8' ceilings. This was the best purchase I have ever made. In the beginning I shook the room off its foundation, shattered all the windows, and created a new fault in the earth's crust. Once callibrating it, I discovered something about this sub I hadn't noticed before. It doesn't have that "Home Theater Sound." You know, the bass you here at every hi-fi and home theater shop that first catches your attention and then tires your ears. You can tame this sub so that a KC-135 has that realistic low rumble, not the earth shaking results you get from other subs. Yet on Lord of the Rings it will vibrated every part of your room. It is also quite a remarkable sub in that it handles music beatifully. I have all my speakers, (7.1 set up), crossing over at 80db, so this sub gets quite the workout and has never once struggled. No grunts, groans, port noise. I think this is remarkable for $825. Really can't stand to listen to other home theater set ups anymore. Highly recommend it! Strength:
Price, performance, made in the United States, excellent customer service. Clear instructions, relatively painless to set-up. DEEP, LOUD bass: at a moderate (still well on the minus side of my HK AVR) volume level, I measured low frequencies at 100 dB from my listening position 13 feet away. And you can be sure that sound is tight and accurate. Turn this thing up, and it will rearrange your furniture.
Weakness:
??? Some would argue the size, but get over it. Big boxes, big room, HUGE sound. What you have heard about this sub is accurate. I bought it to replace a Sunfire True subwoofer, and there is no comparison. Once set up and dialed-in, it CLEARLY outperformed the old True (which is not bad in its own right). And it costs less. In fact, at $825, it is an absolute bargain. I'm not aware of any sub that can compete. Similar Products Used: Klipsch Reference, Sunfire True. |

Strength:
Power to hit lows harder and louder than most all subs on the market.
Weakness:
You can cry about its looks, but sound this big doesn't come in a tiny box. Unless you own a Krell MRS or the like, buying this sub will change you idea of sound. This sub creates low freq sounds that you probably have never experienced before. It flaps your pants and shirt, but yet disappears when not in action. It brings to life bass drums and creates low sounds as they appear in normal hearing...not an artificial thump that most puke boxes try to push out of their drivers. If you do decide to get one, welcome to a class of subs all by themselves. If not, then waste your money on some sub and always wonder what it would be like to own an SVS. Weakness:
only weakness is the cheesy cloth on the outside but it's hidden in corner so I dont care. WOW WOW WOW. I just got my SVS and this thing is unbelievable. The manual lists some heavy bass movies to try out. I rented Das Boot and the storm surfing scenes actually shook the foundation of my house. I had a Vandersteen V2W prior and this thing blows it away and fits nicely in the corner. Bass is tight and not too boomy and I couldnt bottom it out if I tried. You will not go wrong with this bad boy. Similar Products Used: Vandersteen V2W |

Can produce insane amount of floor shaking bass is desired without distortion.Very tuneable. Quick and tight.Blends well in system.Quality construction.Great bang-for-buck.
Weakness:
HUGE! I have had a HRSW12V with 150W amp in my system for over 8 years. I was extremely happy with this unit; it bested many subs until a friend purchased a Hsu VTF-3 recently after he heard my sub. I was now soundly trounced! Purchasing a VTF-3 seemed a no-brainer. Surprisingly, after much online research I decided to give the SVS 20-39PC+ a home tryout before buying the VTF-3. My friend has the same preamp/proc,amp,and similar B&W speakers in a room of roughly the same size and volume. I'm keeping the SVS 20-39PC+! IMHO the downfiring woofer(of which I have grown accustomed)along with the 525 amp give more punch, speed and room shaking ability than the other combatant. The SVS is more tunable. Also considered Hsu TN1220HO but was deterred by top-heavyness and outboard amp. Similar Products Used: HRSW12V. Also auditioned Hsu VTF-2 and VTF-3,Energy, Infinity |

Smooth smooth smooth natural sounding low bass. And I haven't even tried them with the port blockers! Man o' man ! I first bought the 16-46 PC+, but went to a PAIR of 20-39 PC+'s to fill my large theater room. There is not another company any where, at all, that compares to the special treatment you get from Tom and Ron @ SVS. To say they are the BEST would still be an understatement. Now about the subs. When one wants ALOT of bass and doesn't have alot of $$$ , one should buy a pair of 20-39 PC+ subs from SVS. For about 1700.00 you WILL NOT get anything close to these. If I am wrong, I challenge ANY other company to send me their sub/subs for 1700.00 and let me audition them for a week. They won't do it because they know they are wasting their time and $$$ shipping them to me and then back to themselves. Otherwise they would take me up on this offer. I put a sub on each side of my wall unit to have a more balanced "LOOK" across the front, but if you put both subs in the same corner, have the wife or maid ready to pick up the knocked off and fallen art work/decorations in your room! The sound is so smooth and natural you forget to listen for the subs, they just blend in. I was always "listening" for the sub when I had my Paradigm. These SVS's just flat out ROCK !!! Now, can anyone say "Pair of B4's"? Similar Products Used: Paradigm |
