I have carpeted floors and I wanted bass that you could "feel" and this sub did just that. It sounded great for music or movies. The owners are just wonderful people to deal with. You will not find better. My driver blew out the first day. I eventually "operated" and found that there was a flaw in the attachment of the driver to the frame. In just a few days I received a replacement. Easy to install. I have enjoyed wonderful bass since. (six years) |

Strength:
In mu opinion, this sub is all about strength.
Weakness:
Does your wife like tall odd cylindrically shaped furniture? You get the picture. I've not had the pleasure of listening to the most expensive subs on the planet, however, I can't imagine them sounding significantly better than this model. Bass is extremely tight and well damped...close in time low, discrete 25 Hz notes are reproduced as intended, with no lingering note interference caused by inadequate damping.
Customer Service No experience. Similar Products Used: Velodyne VRP-1200 (not really a subwoofer).

Strength:
WOW BASS Wife approval! wonderful customer support
Weakness:
stucco falls so do roof tiles neighbors moaning where to begin... Ok, well, first off, I would like to thank Ron and Tom and the rest of the crew at SVS for putting reality into the "hype". This unit was shipped with care, built with care, and it shows in every aspect. After going through any part of the Bass demos suggested, or any of my own favorite musical pieces, this sub has BLOWN ME AWAY. I am running 2 Paradigm Studio 100 v.3's in conjunction with the 25-31PC Plus. words like, "WOW", "DAMN", and "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???" have been uttered from my wife and myself on SEVERAL occasions, both in Music listening and movie sessions. Customer Service: other companies, TAKE NOTE. SVS has been 100% helpful, prompt, and courteous. I can't say enough good things about their brand of service. The goods: I demoed a Paradigm PW-2200, a very respectable, well made unit. simply put, the SVS and the Paradigm are not even in the same class. Kudos to SVS for really bringing the goods to my home! -VERY good high quality LOW bass! -Is loud enough to shake windows, and piss off the neighbors, but not enough to scare small children. -Blends well -Decent price (could build one for much less but who has the time?)
Weakness:
not quite as loud as I thought it would be... Over the last few years I have been steadily building my home theater, I am dedicated to it and do not plan to do any thing half assed (funds permitting). This being said I only just graduated from college and have never owned a dedicated home theater sub. Until now. This is by far one of the best purchases I have made to date! It packs a very serious punch! It is not perfect however, maybe I'm a little extreme or crazy but sometimes I feel it is not loud enough to justify the $800. I have managed to bottom out the driver on several different occasions. Don’t get me wrong! It produces some very extreme bass at very low frequencies, for a reasonable price! It blends well with my setup once it is calibrated right, which is what I want, but I also want to be able to push the bass to the point where I can't stand it and have to turn it down, which I can't really do here, I guess I'm asking for to much from a $800 sub. I suppose I’m the kind of person that should have saved some more and got a pair of PB12-Ultra/2's. Best Bass for the Buck! Clean, tight, and LOUD! Extremely pleasing aesthetics
Weakness:
Windows, doors, and dishes rattle ACROSS the house! The Wife had to be convinced that this would work in our living room. Rendered my Aura Bass Shakers obsolete, although I still turn them on from time to time, I really don't have to...heh! I am coming up on my second anniversary with my friend, the SVS 25-31 PC+. My room measures 17 X 17 X 9 with a hallway connected and an adjacent room of about 400 Square Feet. I replaced an HSU VTF-2, which was ok, but lacked the oomph I needed in my room, the SVS made the VTF-2 sound like a mouse squeal! There was a world of difference in the overall low end soundstage! I am still impressed with this sub just as the first day I unpacked it and set it up. I love how it pressurizes my room and rattles the dishes in the kitchen. I have been in Home Theater a little over 8 years now and I can say that this was simply the best purchase I made. Dollar for dollar, this sub absolutely makes my home theater great. SVS is apparently working on surround speakers to match with their wonderful subs, I cannot wait! There's simply not much more to be said that you can't read in hundreds of other reviews about the company and it's products, SVS is THE BEST Sub for Home Theater period! Strength:
Strong, tight bass. No bull - just hard hitting bass.
Weakness:
Upon delivery you need to warn your neighbors. My neighbor thought an earthquake was happening - no joke. She started to panic, then realized it was coming from my house! I've been into HT for about 15 years but have never had a dedicated powered sub in my system. I thought my HT low bass sounded great with 2 12" cerwin vega mains - until I broke down and purchased my SVS from their B-stock. Wow! Its hard to describe how awesome this sub sounds. It really has an amazing capability to pressurize the room with tight clean bass. No boominess like the bass coming from your local big-box electronics store "listening rooms". I was worried that this sub would not be enough for my huge HT/Living room - 1,800 cu. ft. w/ 10 ft wide opening into a 4,000 cu. ft. area. No problem for this sub. It literally shakes the entire house! The bass is so powerful that it actually scared me when I first fired it up. One night when the kids and wife were gone I tried to see how loud it would go before it started to stress - I couldn't get it loud enough! It stayed clean and tight until I couldn't take it anymore. While watching the Incredibles I was amazed when Syndrome's robot rolled through the forest. It felt like it was rolling through my living room! Bottom line - if you want the best bass for your $$, you can't go wrong with this sub from SVS. My expectations were exceeded with this one. Similar Products Used: None of this quality. |

Strength:
Tons of clean, tight bass. Audiophile bass mase available to the masses. Quality transaction/packaging/manual. If you havn't owned a sub in this class beware: The HT "experience" is taken to a new level.
Weakness:
[This page left intentionally blank] I'm an engineer, and at 43 with 26 years of Audio/HT experience I don't get surprised too often... After buying a new home with a 400 sq ft finished room in the basement for my HT (my deal with the wife: I get the basement, you get the rest of the house), I knew that my sub selection would make or break the entire HT. My budget was 3 figures, needing to be careful not to venture into the land-of-overspending else I'd be living in the basement with my only my HT for company. After 3 months of research, I settled on the SV25-31PC Plus. I thought about buying 2 25-31PCi's but decided the extra expense and space required could not be justified due to aforementioned personal circucmstances. SVS spoke on their web site about needing 2 PCi's to equal the power of the PC Plus, so it was a logical fit with my requirements. I must confess, I had my doubts... This room is huge, open, has a drop ceiling and shag carpet with thick padding under it, and concrete under that. As an engineer, I was concerned about the rug/padding and the concrete floor being "Sub Unfriendly", especially for a down-firing Sub design. It's easy for an average sub on a hardwood floor, for instance, to resonate the entire floor - not so with this floor! I was going to need an outstanding sub to perform well in this environment. Everything about the transaction was smooth, the shipping surprisingly reasonable, the packaging beefy and the manual succinct. I was pleased with the sheer energy on tap during calibration (the house shook so hard at one point that the wife came down from 2 floors above and scowled menacingly - always a good sign), but the real test was sitting down and experiencing HT. The next night while I had the house to myself for a few hours I rewatched Fight Club. I was mightily impressed with the first bits, but when I got to the scene where the plane starts coming apart it no joke bordered on a religious experience! I literally had a full body rush and then I laughed out loud involuntarily like a kid filled with glee. I watched The Bourne Supremacy last night and can honestly say I am now resigned to re-watching all my DVDs again. I don't have time for this! I am and have always been, however, a music comes first kind of guy. This is where the Klipsch and CSW subs fell short on my previous set ups. In sterio mode with just the RF3 fronts adjusted for tone and the SVS to back up their somewhat wimpy bass, I can honsetly say I can turn up my music until I can't stand to be in the room without any sign of muddiness or imprecision at all. Despite having another sterio on the main floor, I've taken to turning up the music in the basement when working around the house. Seriously, to the folks at SVS responsible for making this sub available to someone on a moderate HT budget, you have my gratitude, you've truly produced something superior, and it's sitting in the corner of my basement and daring me to turn up the volume just a little bit more... Everything and anything you could ask of a sub, it delivers an experience you must experience to believe, no joke! With a free trial what do you have to loose but some china??????
Weakness:
Your house! I was looking for a sub that could do 2 channel low end work for my listening room in my basement in conjunction with my Klipsch mains. I heard a bunch of boxes at various stores, but after doing all of my homework I decided to give SVS a try. I wanted output, first and foremost, but accurate output was another key. I gave SVS a ring, and they were very helpful in my selection. I was not dissapointed at all when it was recieved, this sub is what bass lovers die for, it does more than I could imagine while always being in accurate total control. It adds so much to the overall experience that I was missing that now I could not live without it! You want it loud? No problem, SVS delivers big time and in a big way! I have actually seen the whole sub leave the ground on bass peaks, tough you would not hear it, incredible dynamics by anyones standards. I can honestly say that this is a must have for 2 channel, realism is unpresidented, for HT fans I can only imagine you will need to wear diapers, it is that good and scary real! Remember, if you have any valuables you better glue or bolt them down or risk loosing them as this can rearrange your house if not careful. 2 of these, well I could not imagine the consequenses....... Strength:
Extremely powerful Extremely pure sound Very musical tight You will hear things in movies and music you never heard before. It's fun to sit right next to it and turn it up! It will part your hair. If you stand over it and turn it up, it will blow dry your hair.
Weakness:
Scares the neighbors. Scares my cats. Scares me. One word: incredible! Recently I decided it was time to upgrade my 12 year old Sony 140 watt receiver, radio shack Optimus satallite subwoofer system, and some cheap surround speakers. Choosing Klipsch for the main speakers and KLH-911B for surrounds (great low-cost speakers, by the way), I initially decided on a Klipsch KSW-12 subwoofer. Although I was pleased with the musicality and punch of the KSW-12 in a small room, I was also about to move to a house and I wondered if the KSW-12 was the best bargain I could get. I decided to get the KSW-15, but because of very limited availability I went for the SVS 25-31PCI+ (and sold my KSW-12 on Ebay). I e-mailed SVS and Tom V. himself e-mailed me back with recommendation of this subwoofer for the size room I would be moving to. He actually talked me out of the bigger, more expensive model! It's difficult to compare the 25-31 to the KSW-12 because it is like going from a pseudo-sub to the real thing. The KSW-12 is a great sub, especially on a budget. It is musical and has punch, but the SVS is produces a quality of bass that I've never heard before. The sound is absolutely pure from low volume to high volume, and at high volumes this sub has no equal. The 25-31PCI+ puts out the most SPL of any PCI sub SVS sells. It will fill up the house, literally, with pure sounding, distortion free bass. Check other message boards and everyone will tell you the same thing. Stories abound of things falling off walls, the floors shaking, cabinets flying open, etc. With home theatre you get incredible performance. Really low but powerful bass. With music you get pure musicality. No boominess or mud (if calibrated correctly). In fact I can't decide whether I like it better for music or theatre. It amazingly does excellent in both. In theatre it suddenly opens up and becomes a beast. You can't hear bass like this even in a movie theatre. In music it hangs back and delivers an extremely accurate and tight musical performance. I had an audiophile friend over, and he said that out of the box it sounded better than his friend's Paradigm Servo Studio 15 subwoofer which cost over $2,000. Compared to the Klipsch KSW-12 let me give anyone debating some advice: KSW-12: (1) Musical (2) Better for smaller rooms. Listening location will affect output a little. (3) Cheaper (4) Good punch in home theatre, but can get muddy when a lot is going on, and can bottom out if played at movie theatre volume levels (5) 105 watts RMS (440 watt peak) with equalization SVS 25-31 PCI+ (1) Extremely musical (2) Will fill up ANY size room with engulfing bass at any listening location in the room (3) Extreme cheap compared to comparable subs. With the 3 year warranty, great cust. service and quality, probably better to get SVS. (4) Enormous impact in home theatre. You'll feel your hair shift and it will vibrate your house. It has incredible punch and depth. Most people have never experienced this kind of low frequency power before. At 20hz it feels like a rush of air moving through you and the whole house resonates. (5) 525 watts RMS with no equalization. When doing the calculations, you end up with the equivalent of 2000+ watts down low. Similar Products Used: Klipsch KSW-12, Optimus subwoofer |

Strength:
Clean, tight, detailed, DEEP bass with loads of overhead (enough to let me tune them down another 5 Hz with a supplied "port blocker") at a truly reasonable price. Legendary customer service, almost worthy of en epic poem.
Weakness:
It takes a leap of faith to order them, sound un-heard. It seems huge when you unbox it, though it blended in with my home theatre's appearance better than my wife expected. As a former audio salesman, I think it's crazy to buy a speaker without listening to it first, but that's exactly what I did with this subwoofer, based solely on ecstatic reviews by owners and professional reviewers alike. I've listened to all the sub-$1000 subwoofers I could for the last few months and kept reading reviews saying that the SVS models beat whatever models I found I was leaning towards. I finally ordered one, fully expecting to send it back under the 30-day guarantee. SVS will NOT be getting my subwoofer back! Each DVD and CD is like a new adventure - I'm discovering clean, tight, DEEP bass I had no idea was on these disks. The solidity and detail is greatly superior to what I've been able to hear from other, similarly priced subwoofers. I'm almost afraid that there's a catch; that I'll wake up and this will have been a dream and my 25-31 PC+ will be gone. I emailed Tom V (the designer) for model recommendations based on my equipment list, room size and listening preferences and he responded within 20 minutes (on a Sunday night, no less!) with a recommendation of the model I'd already been leaning for but also listed several reasons why the model costing $225 less might be more than enough for me. Their customer service is unlike anything I've ever run across. Similar Products Used: Klipsch (my second choice) and several other models plus my crappy old Kenwood boom box that doesn't even deserve to be called a subwoofer. |
