Strength:

good output

Weakness:

a slight lack of upper bass clarity gigantic, water heater look

Good HT product, leaves a little to be desired for music and in the aesthetics department, very large sub. The Hsu TN1220 and VTF3 will certainly outperform this sub (they do cost a little more though).

SVS is the bass authority and with good reason. 2 notches from 0 and the woofer is thumping hard. Perhaps my Krell equipment has something to do with that =) Waiting for SVS PC+ series to come out end of June. Email me if you are interested in buying this current unit. HSU does not even come close with what SVS has in store for its consumers! MY HT: http://www.geocities.com/chinje2000/ht.htm

I''''ve had the all new SVS 20-39PCi sub for about 2 weeks now, and my jaw hits the floor everytime I use it! I plan to write an extended review in a few months, but I''''m so excited about this piece that I just had to get my thoughts down on paper (e-paper). It''''s just the best bass I''''ve ever heard/felt!! See Below:

What can I say that hasn't been said already about these subs...

I've grown attatched to my 20-39PC in the 3 months that I've had it. At the time the wait
for one of these beauties was about the same amount of time - 3 months! Was the wait worth
it? - absolutely. It seems that the wait time is down to a week or so which is great...

I wasn't too intimidated by the size - I was expecting a big sub, and that's exactly what
I got. The fit and finish are first rate - and the sub "blends" in well in my room, which
is actually my living room also. No complaints from the wife about it being out of place...
I expected lots of, "what's that in the corner?" from friends and family but not one
comment about the sub seeeming to big... So if size is a concern with this sub, you may
be pleasently surprised how well it "fits in" with the rest of your gear. I still love
to see that 39" tube sitting in the corner....

Enough about looks... on to what really matters, the sound...
Now, I had very high expectations with the SVS, a 3 month wait will do that to you. I
bought this sub soley from word of mouth over at the hometheaterforum, as did most others.
I was looking to replace my Energy e:XL-10 sub which produced very boomy bass. It was a
decent sub for the money, but I was looking for a little more.

Well the SVS delivers and then some! I don't know how people run 2 of these things.
I only have the sub amp at 1/3 throttle (with the receiver at -8 on the sub out) and
this thing flat out rocks. It handles everything I throw at it. I must admit that
it took me a month or so to get used to clean, deep, accurate bass. But now that I
have I couldn't have my bass any other way.

Want to impress your friends - pop in Toy Story 2 and watch the first 2 chapters,
un-friggin-believable! No other way to describe it. The SVS just rocks the house
when this is on. Also. a new favorite of mine is the Blueman Audio DVD. You want to
give your SVS a workout, pop this in - tons 'o bass and it sounds awesome!!!

My biggest surprise was how well this sub is musically - I listen mainly to rock and
I know this isn't the best music to judge a sub by, but when I could pick out bass notes
that I couldn't before I was floored... I quickly became reaquainted with my CD collection
after the SVS arrived.

Finally, the support and service that the guys at SVS offer is unheard of... It was like
I was dealing with a good friend, not a business. From the emails about what to order
to the countless "how soon will my sub ship?" emails to my set up questions once my sub
arrived, they were there to quickly answer my questions every step of the way.
Simply amazing.

Size, Looks

Purchased two of these for $1600. Was hapy but not 100% happy. Purchased a velodyne HGS 18 and it blew them away with cleaner, tighter, deeper bass. The wife didnot like the looks, but they do have very high output. A tad boomy on some movies in my room where the velo was not. Build quality is good, but not anywhere near the league of an HGS, sunfire, ect. One SVS couldnot compete with my Sunfire SIggie, but two did beat it, but at about the same price.

Awesome Bass, great price.

Weakness:

Only available online, can't try it 1st.

I finally had the chance to upgrade my sub (not living in small space) and decided to look around. The guy at my local HT store said M&K were the way to go and that SVS couldn't possibly be good. Well when I went online and starting reading reviews about this sub and people were comparing it to much more expensive M&K subs then I was even looking at I decided it was worth the gamble. Since they have a money back guarantee I didn't need to worry. Well I got it within about a week, set it up, calibrated it, and went for some bassy movies... When I played the end scene from fightclub I swore my house was coming down around me, and this with the sub only at 50% volume. Needless to say this sounds better then anything I've heard at even twice this price.

Strength:

Incredibly clean, tight, powerful bass. Transferable 3 year warranty. Looks nice and fits in a corner VERY easily.

Weakness:

May not be able to audition it before purchase. It is roughly 40 inches tall and 16.5 inches in diameter.

I purchased the sub locally, used. It is in perfect working condition and only 6 months old. I was really happy with my pdr-10 for music, but it just did not have the impact I wanted for movies. Every movie I watch, I become more impressed with this sub. It blends incredibly well with my Paradigm Titans. The sub never seems to call attention to itself during movies or music ...except when a loud bass scene shows up. At that point you will likely hear all kinds of weird rattles in your house :) The 'comming mother' scene in 'The Haunting' has 3 REALLY loud VERY low thumps. My pdr-10 barely made any noise at all during that part of the scene. The SVS, however, allowed me to hear what low frequency sound is all about. Every DVD I watched sounded MUCH better with the SVS. Every song I listened to (rock/metal) sounded a bit more detailed with clean, clear bass notes. I could not have made a better purchase and absolutely reccomend trying one of these subs out.

Strength:

Bass extension, total output and overall musicality

Weakness:

Not able to try out before purchase

A few months ago I was contemplating whether I should buy from an Internet based company. I've heard of SVS through Audioreview. I was a bit skeptical due to the lack of reputable magazine reviews so I decided to get the Def Tech PF15TL+. The Def Tech has garnered rave reviews from Home Theater and was rated a Class A recommened component by Stereophile Guide to Home Theater for 2001. The Def Tech was adequate and fulfilled my needs at the time.

Then I stumbled onto hometheaterforum.com. I could not believe the number of glowing reviews from satisfied SVS customers. I felt like I was missing out on something. I started to wonder 'what if I had purchased an SVS?'. They raved about the customer service and the exceptional product. I decided to email SVS customer service to clarify a few things. I was extremely impressed with the prompt, courteous and knowledgeable response to all of my questions. And believe me I had a lot of questions. They have great customer service, an exceptional product and a very reasonable 45 day return policy. SVS also doesn't charge a restocking fee for returns like most companies do. So I decided to purchase the SVS 20-39PC subwoofer. I received the subwoofer in a week.

This was a LOW RISK - HIGH RETURN purchase. After a few months of use I can honestly say that this purchase was well worth the risk. The SVS sub has better bass extension, total output and overall musicality compared to the Def Tech PF15TL+ for the same price. The Def Tech was boomier and distorted a lot easier compared to the SVS. I have since sold the Def Tech PF15TL+ after only 2 months of use. I also owned an NHT SW2PI for about 4 years. It was very good for music, it was almost as good as the SVS. It was quick with no bass overhang. For home theater, the NHT was simply inadequate. It would distort very easily at loud volumes, had no bass extension and total output was lacking. The NHT was no match against the SVS for home theater.

Clean,LOW bass with exceptional headroom. Very dynamic!

Weakness:

This sub is amazing. You can't go wrong at this price point.
I could go on about all the movies mentioned here and say ditto's-then some. But I want to stress that this is the very first sub that I can say is MUSICAL. It does it right.
From CD's to DVD soundtracks my system has never sounded better. I am using it with the MK 350 THX and after numerous e-mails to Tom and Ron went with a location that sounded
great to me. I may have given up 1-db of headroom (because of location) but it sounds wonderful.
One other point, you will not find a better Cust. Service
Dept. anywhere regarding follow up concerns. If you are
not happy they will do whats necessary to correct that or cheerfully refund your money. Do not be concerned that they
are a internet Co. They will answer all questions. Thanks again Tom, Ron, and Eric.
