Although I haven't owned a lot of subs, I've heard a lot both at friend's houses, auditioning at stores in preparation for this purchase, and doing sound for parties with large PA-type systems in college. I bought this sub based on the strength of the on-line recommendations I read at the home theatre forum site and the detailed information on SVS's website. They were dead-on and I can't add much: this thing kicks BASS! Turned up, it will shake the room and make you aware of squeaks and rattles you never knew were there. It goes LOW- the 200 - 20Hz sweep on the THX audio tuning tests found on many THX-certified DVDs is a trip- you distinctly hear the sweep stop (instead of just fading out). It adds depth to music- I listen to a lot of pipe organ (I used to play) and this thing will give you the feeling of those 16' and 32' stops like no other home setup I've seen. Before the sub showed up, I wondered how SVS was able to create a superior sub for such a competitive price. When it arrived, I *knew*: size. This thing is HUGE. I knew the measurements (16" diameter, 39" tall) before I ordered, but what that represents was shocking when I took it out of the box. It literally looks like an evil water heater. The "WAF" (Wife acceptence factor) on this thing is low- mine was not happy (although I'd shown her a picture from the SVS site ahead of time). She's not making me send it back (whew!), but beware- awesome sound and value does come at a price.

I''m not sure this is a weakness, but it has a unique tubular style that is much taller then your average subwoofer.

This is the second SV Subwoofer I’ve owned. I previously had a 1646PC, but was forced to sell it due to a problem with my car (needed money fast). I went back to using my Polk PSW650 and have been using it for the past 6 months. I have to say I really missed the SV sub, but the new PCi series is even better then the previous PC series! The new SVS blends with my Magnepan 1.6QR''s so much better then the Polk. The 2039PCi has clean, tight power that extends far below the Polk’s range, without all the boomyness.
