Strength:
Rightly prices at 549+S&H. Stellar output between 45hz to 100hz-that's where most of the bass is at anyway. Detailed bass notes not muddy like Velo CHT-12.
Weakness:
Small company blues. Lack of Really low octave extension and output "Supposedly" compared to it's bigger siblings. Overly ambitious expectations one get from reading all these reviews. In light of absolutely GREAT reviews posted all over audioreview.com I've had great expectation for the 25-31pci i've ordered. I've been planning to use it mainly for HT. So when it finally came after what seemed like an eternity, I basically put everything aside and preceeded to set up the subwoofer even it was late at nite and I was a bit fried from work. Next morning I've woke up to find something unexpected on the port grill but I've promised SVS folks not to discuss about that any further on the internet. Anyway back to performance, This sub WILL at first disappoint you. Don't worry, it just means it needs some time to loosen up like any other subs. I've noticed between 45hz to 120hz this sub has very... shall we say STRONG out put. Sub really pounds almost to the point of being too much. It's definitely a music sub. it drops off like other reviewer said very sharply from 40hz on down. And I supposedly was sent 22hz tuned version. So if you are getting an SVS sub for your HT, save yourself the hassle of shipping it back and get 20-39 or 16-46. Like they say there is no replacement for displacement. The included booklet mentions scenes from DVD's that'll show case an SVS sub. 1, Wesley's footstep from Blade. 2, Starwars EP1 Pod racer scene. 3, Morpheus's drop knee on the floor in matrix. 4, falling from mothership in a dropship in aliens According to the other reviewers SVS they said their "eyeballs jiggled, dishes fell off, the whole house shook, my living room got pressurezed". To that All i gotta say is, some fancy words.... I didn't experience any of the sensation's they've mentioned. Sure I've experienced so called vibrations at 20hz and 25hz using the test tone but there was no audible sound. I don't know how PC-Plus 25-31 performs, but this brings back to my point again, if you are buying an SVS for HT buy 20-39 or 16-46. You have been warned. Then again it's just my opinion. You are free to choose whatever you want of course. It's your money. One movie the sub really hit the mark was Terminator - original digitally remastered. The gunshots were so real it was almost scarey. The tanker truck explosion to SVS' credit really did justice to the explosion shown on the screen very very satisfying. Oh almost forgot, sub is not video shielded. So you can't place it next to TV but who would want to anyway? Sub's strong enough to rattle the picture. Over all I ended up returning the sub mainly due to reasons i can't mention but also because of above mentioned performance issues. To Ron from SVS' credit he did offer me to point out right place for me to place the sub if i'd fax him the drawing of my living room. Also I must mention, Ron went out of his way to resolve this issue, true to the motto "customer is king" you learn in good business school. He truely is an example of how a good businessman should conduct oneself. Reflecting back, only regret i have is not going for 2039 PCPlus. Sure it's a few more $$$ but it would've surely improved the HT performance situation. Once again Just my opinion of course. Now i still got sub cables lying around unhooked on the floor after almost a month since i shipped the 60+lb sub back. Every time i see those unconnected cables It reminds me, that i need to go out and buy another sub. Since I'm going to audition as many sub as I can from Paradigm pw-2200 to B&W's, NHT and Energy's. I've learned my lesson and I'm ready to up the price range to about a grand in order to get one i'd want to keep for at least 10 years or more. I was going to try Hsu VTF-3 but that thing seems to have woofer looking very similar to SVS 25-31 i've just returned. Not to mention it's about $300 more expensive. If all else fails i'm gonna give SVS another try. This time probably Plus or ultra series, 2039 of course. Similar Products Used: NONE. |

Strength:
Deep Deep Bass Lots of punch Power, shear power No boom Hits reference with no trouble Value
Weakness:
None One word... Insane! This sub rocks! If you can find a better performer for twice the price then buy it! I opted for the 22Hz tuning- no extra charge, this sub hits low and hits hard. My theater is 17' x 10' x 7' and this sub fills it with clean low bass, not boomy at all. On Monsters Inc during the famous exploding the sock up scene I registered 112 DB at my listening position and the amp is not even at half. It plays at reference levels without breaking a sweat. SVS's customer service is top notch, in fact it's the best shopping experence I have ever had. Not to mention that the product exceeds all expectations. I thought the size would upset the WAF, but after hearing it she was a beleiver and she actully likes its appearance. If you want BIG BASS you need BIG size. The 22-31pci blends seamlessly with my Def-Tech Pro cimemas. Would purchase it again without though, by far the best sub in its price range or even for twice the price, simply put nothing compares. Walk...no run to SVS and snatch one up, with SVS's return policy you can't go wrong. Similar Products Used: demoed: Def - Tech Infinity Energy |

This is a mighty sub.
Weakness:
None! This sub's model year is 2002. This sub rocks. I was skeptical at first because I couldn't preview it, but when it arrived, I tried to rock the house.... and it did! I moved the sub into a nook and put on a DVD that has a lot of bass and it more than rocked. I'm very happy with it. |

Strength:
Super low, tight, theater-style bass. Flat to 25Hz, audible to about 20Hz. Un-beatable price.
Weakness:
Not as tight as a sealed enclosure for music (mostly rock). I was very close to buying a Velodyne before someone recommended SVS. Nothing else I had listened to satisfied my tastes. But I ordered the SVS anyway, because of the 45 day guarantee. This thing is amazing!! I was going to go with the 20-39 (flat to 20Hz, 39 inches tall), but this would make it taller than my RF3's, and the other half objected. For movies, this is the best sounding sub I've had the pleasure of hearing (for under $2000). Clear, tight, fast bass. Really enhances the theater experience. For music, it performs almost as well, although it isn't quite as tight as a sealed enclosure IMHO. Overall, can't beat it for the price. Great stuff. |
