Strength:

Clean tight bass, musical, volume is only at 2/3 right now, and fills the room...

Weakness:

rubber feet, not the 10" velly i wanted...

well, I put the discontinued CT-100 on lay-away at circuit city... brought it home yesterday to find that there was no power going to the sub... I never liked the CT-80, so I was skeptical about downgrading, but there were no CT-100's left (the CHT series is $100 more)... So i went with the CHT-8... it was the same price, but i figured circuit city has an upgrade policy, so i'll upgrade later... Now i think that i won't... the sub is plain awesome... Blows the CT-80 away... I figured there weren't many differences in the discontinued CT series and the new CHT series... I like this sub better than the CT-100... But, if this one sounds that much better, I may have to upgrade to the CHT-10 later on... This baby fills my room with clean tight bass, and it blends REAL well with my Paradigm Mini-Monitor fronts, CC-170 Center and Atoms in the rear... I won't say I got a great deal, and I am slightly pissed at Circuit City for not dropping the price $100 on the CHT for me when my CT was bought damaged... I would've waited for the sub to be fixed, but I have been waiting to get a Velly for 2 years now... I was not about to go home empty handed... But, it's a great sub for under $1000, and i'd have to say it's better than all the subs under $1000 that I have recently demo'd... And thank GOD it's not boomy... I HATE boomy subs... I may not even upgrade cos it fits in my room better than the 10" did... All around good sub.

WOW!!! I was in the market for a sub and really wanted a Velodyne after reading so many good reviews.I wanted a 10 at least so I was aprehensive when I saw this 8.But the deal was too good to pass up.I am amazed,if the 8 sounds this big I couldnt handle the 10 or 12.I will recommend this to everyone I know.

Strength:

Crisp, tight base. Easy to use.

Weakness:

-

Bought as an open box special for $140 a Circuit City. I couldn't believe how well is sounded compared to other manufacturers larger subwoofers. It was a no-brainer at $200, let alone $140.

Strength:

Small easy to place, great performance from a small woofer

Weakness:

Not as quick response as some of the subs mentioned below

I've had this sub for over a year now and I have no regrets. This Sub works great for an 8 incher. Plenty of output for most small to moderate sized rooms. My room is not to large 12 x 20 x 8. The room is actually too large for this sub. I will be upgrading to the paradigm PS-1000 in the next few days. Overall this sub is a grat value although it does have some weaknesses. The response time is a bit slow for my taste, compared to the paradigm PDR-10. The velodyne also has trouble in my room with low frequencies in certain movies. For example, U-571 scene 6. When watching this scene, it started to produce the low frequencies when all of a sudden the woofer popped. I replayed the scene at a lower volume level to make sure it wasn't the DVD. It was just something the velodyne could't handle. Although I am not giving this Item a great review, I understand that these things may just be due to placement or maybe I like my sub a little louder than most folk. If your in the market for a great entry level sub than check out the velodyne. Also check out paradigm subs. It all comes down to what you like and what you are willing to pay for it.

Strength:

Small unit size with powerful punch.

Weakness:

Hasn't failed me yet.

Coming from a lamp cord = speaker cable mentality I'm new to a more sophisticated system. The help received from reading and comments here helped me greatly. I'm amazed at the difference this sub can make. Although I have nothing to compare it to I found that the controls offered with the unit very helpful in custonizing the sound I want. Nothing too heavy but just right.

Strength:

deep gut wrenching bass when running dd or dts and clean tight musical bass when listening to music

Weakness:

none

What can I say this thing rocks! Literally shakes my bed and fell the vibrations within my very being. The true test of a subwoofer is Titan AE chapter 1 and dinosaur chapter 1. Deep deep bass in these movies. As for music the ct 80 is very good in that department. Not boomy, but not makeing you ask your self whether the subwoofer is on either. Don't settle for a jbl, Yamaha, or a shi**y KlH, wait a little and buy a Velodyne. All good things come to who that wait.

Strength:

very melodical deep bass, small size

Weakness:

only when compared to the CT-100

I just got my subwoofer today. I read various reviews and went to circuit city to listen for myself.

In the store - the 10" version (CT-100) was at least twice as good as this one. However, it was $479. Since I managed to talk the guy down on the open box CT-80's to $179, plus the fact that I have some Polk RT 1000's (built in subwoofer) coming in, and my room is medium size - I figured I couldn't lose on this one.

So, to get to the point - if you're looking for that thunder that shakes your neighbors house to the ground - splurge and get the CT-100's - you won't regret it. If you're like me and have a medium to small room and money doesn't grow outside on the apple trees, the CT-80 is a perfect fit. WARNING: Only get these if you have good main speakers that can handle the full range of sound. This subwoofer is meant to supplement.

I'd really give it a 4.5 overall but I'm giving it a 5 because the ratings would go down too much with a 4
