Are you kidding? What Strengths?
Weakness:
everything This sub stinks! I can't believe people actually buy this thing. I can't believe I bought this thing. This sub is the boomiest sub I have ever heard. Definately not audiophile quality sound. This is the worst sounding sub I have ever heard. It can't handle power. none. They said it putts out 100watts. I bearly turn my system up and the bass starts to get distorted. Yamaha starts talking about the active servo technology. I have never heard so much trash in my life. Yamaha makes good recievers and comonents, but subwoofers, forget it.I threw it out, it is not worth the space it takes up. I wish I could put the stars in the minus. The ratings don't go low enough. Too bad you can't select zero stars. Similar Products Used: polk, jbl, bose, velodyne |

Weakness:
None not expected For the price and size of this sub-woofer, I'm very satisfied. I'm using a Yamaha 500 watt 5.1 AVR. My front speakers are Polk R-7's, Sony rear effect speakers and a Yamaha center channel speaker. You can definatly FEEL the bass that this thing puts out. After hooking it up, it seems like I have a new stereo system. The Polks kicked out ample bass alone, but with the addition of this sub-woofer the difference is incredible. This speaker puts out 100 watts and has an 8" woofer. It is an incredible sound from such a small size. Music CD's take on a whole new sound with the extra punch from the bass, and DVD's can now be felt as well as heard. The controls on the front of the unit are convienient for adjusting the sound.I find myself changing them for just about every disk. Obviously this speaker isn't for everyone. There are bigger and louder out there. But for the price and size (can be located allmost anywhere)it would be tough to beat. Strength:
Easy to access controls, clarity and richness of sound for such a small and relatively inexpensive unit. Sounded as good as other 8" powered subs that were twice the cost.
Weakness:
None since I am not expecting this to perform like an $1000 Velodyne. For the money I think it is outstanding Using this with Bose tower speakers, bose center and rear speakers for home theater, with Yamaha 795a reciever...I find that for my medium sized room, this little thing fills in the extra punch needed in the base from the Bose speakers. I don't run my system at ear-splitting volumes so for my use I find it to be plenty powerful. At volumes on the edge of listenable I found it clear and strong, and it was easy to blend in with my existing speakers with only minor tweaking. Good buy for the money. Strength:
Easy set-up, manual is well written, sounds excellent for a sub under $150
Weakness:
None so far This little sub is quite good. I listen to my music with the tone controls bypassed (flat) and this unit fills in the bottom of my music very nicely. Like any sub, the key is in set-up and PLACEMENT! I had to try 4 or five locations before I found the one that best suits my listening position. I have experienced no problems as of yet. I would recommend this for small to medium sized rooms. Similar Products Used: Bose, Altec-lansing |

Powerful and Clear Bass
Weakness:
Non found till now For the price and size this subwoofer is the best in the market. I hooked it up to yamaha HTR 5440, bose bookself speakers as main speakers and sony 305 as surround sound speakers. I tried the Bose AM6 but was not satisfied as it didnt have any controls to control the cut off frequency and volume level to adjust according to my changing moods. This subwoofer has all the controls u would ever want. I highly recommend this product for anybody who wants to have a decent sounding subwoofer and is not willing to pay too much. Strength:
Not bad for limited Home Theater use in a closet-sized room.
Weakness:
I have been very dissapointed when I bought this Sub. First of all, the auto standby is horrible. If you don't have the volume on your reciever cranked, then it keeps going on standby mode. Overall sound is mediocre at best and it produces a highly distorted sound at high levels. Even in a small room it doesn't produce ample bass sounds. I would highly recommend that you avoid this Sub. Spend the extra money and go for a higher quality unit. Regardless of the low price, it really isn't worth it. Similar Products Used: BIC D1010 |

Sound, Compact design, nice buikd quality
Weakness:
Auto on/off switch First let me say this is a good sub, but like any sub it must be set up right to get good sound. This means buying a good quality cable to connect it. There is a slight difference between the movie and music mode. Just as the manual states the bass is sligtly deeper when set to movie mode. It also booms just a little bit more (this is good for explosions in movies) Setting it to music mode cuts off the very low frequency of a signal and reduces the boom. I personally keep mine set to movies to get the extra bass extension in my music.( I listen to a lot of R&B) As far as power goes, it has more than enough for me. I use this in a dorm room at college. Remember this is only an 8" sub. So don't expect it to add a significant amount of bass to your setup if you main speakers are bigger than 5.25" This sub also probably won't do you any good if you are trying to fill anything bigger than a small to medium size room. THIS IS NOT A SUNFIRE! My only gripe is the auto on/off switch. Is does not react as fast as my old polk computer sub or my acoustic research AR112. You will probably miss the first 5 seconds of material. It also shuts off during long quiet scenes in movies. This happened about three times during Pearl Harbor. Overall I like it alot. None I recently purchased a Nakamichi Sound Space 5, and decided to hook up a Sub. I tried a marantz sub just didnt give any punch. Rad so much about the Yamaha YST SW105, and tried it out it was excelent. It is a perfect match for SS5. Similar Products Used: tried the Marantz SW2020, before purchasing |
