THis is indeed a very good sub. The control is excellent. Hight cut filter from 40 - 140 Hz, volume control, and phase control. As the sound goes, it is absolutely great! I don't think its possible to
find a better sounding sub for this prize.

I rate it at 4 stars, i don't give it five because if you got the $$ you CAN get a better one, but as I said, not to this prize.

Strength:

Tone control sets up the sub for movies or music.
Clean and tight bass.
Rumbles impressively when set to movies.

This sub is the best sub for the price. I auditioned many subs even in the 100-300 hundred higher dollar bracket. The SW-300 just beat them out in value. It is fabulous for music as well as movies ( tone control allows for altering the "tightness" of the bass output. ). When I brought it home, the first thing I used to audition it was the DTS test disc #3. Man-oh-man the Titanic clip when the ship breaks in half is absolutely incredible. The clarity is astounding. The explosion sequence in Daylight was so real that my mind was tricking me to believe that I could feel the heat blast. I wouldn't trade this puppy in for any other sub.

Strength:

does its sonic job competently

Weakness:

quality of switched and rotary controls

I have been using the sub in home theatre set up composed of:
sony 50ES amp
sony 725D DVD
sonus faber speakers Minina Amator speakers, Solo Centre.
I have found the Sub to be very good value for money and does its theatre job very well. A good all rounder.

After 2 years of use I have just inserted it in my main audio rig composed of:
ARC Ref1 preamp
ARC VT130
Sony CSD-777ES
Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage speakers (MINI MONITORS)
ARC and Monster cables
My first impressions are positive even though, from a price standpoint it should not be so.
Anyone has any impressions to share??

I'd been wanting to move from 5-channel to a real 5.1-channel for my HT. After some consideration and shopping around, I chose the SW300. I limited by subwoofer budget to around $500 as I'm saving
up for a projector unit, so the Yamaha is a perfect choice. I did listen to few other subs in the same
price range (which I'm not gonna mention) and the Yamaha sounds the most pleasing to my ears.

The adjustments on the unit is still something I need to experiment in a longer term. There's very little
difference (if any) among the "movies" and "music" setting. The volume alone can change the
characteristic of the sub quite a bit, so it's crucial that you adjust it to suite your own set up.

Overall, this is more of a movie-oriented sub, but it's also fine for music. This will be a nice addition
to anyone with bookshelf speakers like I do. Right now my placement is rather limited (small room,
rather cluttered), hopefully in the future I can re-position (and adjust it) for even more precise bass. A
great value!

Strength:

25 Hz! Able to produce BIG watts. Low price.

Weakness:

Huge. Not very beautiful. Above 200 Hz the bass are "confused".

I fell that there are two main technologies for subs. The new one, with small, very rigit cone and big power is the one you find in velodyne or other expensive subs. The old one, with pulp cone, big volume and smaller power. The Yam' is one of the best of the old ones. And I could by it. It is the only sub I found around this price to give the 25 Hz at half power and 40 Hz at full power. It has a very useful "third" button that allow to select the sharpness of the cutting. Very useful to ensure correctly the continuity with main speakers.
