Strength:
- great looks
Weakness:
- restricted frequency response (maximum up to at 8Khz)which is not optimum for Dolby digital audio I have listened to these speakers for about 12 months now. I find them to be excellent for Dolby digital audio - despite their restricted frequency range (up to 8khz). They look fantastic (love that THX logo) and produce a wide sound field that envelops the listener and also produces directional sound at critical moments in the soundtrack. However, these are not cheap surround speakers - they retail at around $1300 in Australia. Thus their value for money is probably not quite as high as their features and performance. i would have given them 4.5 stars for performance but will have to settle at 4 stars as they are not the "duck's nuts" (i.e. the absolute best) |

Strength:
diffuse soundfield great price for THX surrounds
Weakness:
limited frequence response Its evident that these speakers were designed to be implimented in a dolby pro-logic THX 4.0 configuration. However they still sound pretty damn fabo with my 5.1 THX configuration...in other words they still do the job that they were designed to do. Create a diffuse and enveloping sound field. I guess the reason I went with these speakers is to match up with my B&W 805s which I love. I was not dissapointed, even in DTS mode these puppys sound great. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
THX and in my case: you can hang them next to your ears
Weakness:
I can't notice any in my tiny 6 x 5 m livingroom In my search for a good audio-system, the choise of a pair of surround speakers was the hardest. First of all, when you buy a THX receiver (Onkyo TX-DS777) you want to have THX-speakers. And in Holland, that's not very easy, certainly not if you want the surround-speakers to be cheaper than the receiver! The only pair I found were this DS6 dipole speakers from B&W. First I read the reviews on this site, and I started to hesitate: bla-bla about freqeuntie-range and being not powerful enough. But still, I bought them. Because I realised that, even in Dolby Digital 5.1, the surroundspeakers are mostly used for effects and that you never turn them up louder than the main speakers. And the fact that the surroundspeakers could not be placed behind me, only next to me, and ofcourse the reasonable price, made me choose the DS6. |
