Strength:
Highs are well defined by 1" tweeter. Good midrange. The 4" woofer down to 80hz is enough for me in my small room. I'm sure in a larger more 'hometheaterish' room it would be nice to have more bass. Average stereo imaging.
Weakness:
Dipole mode is a waste because its lack of freq. response and I don't see it's use in even Dolby Surround applications. Bipole and Monopole are more realistic for the popular DD and DTS. Been spending the last few months on building a decent setup, oddly enough only for my bedroom (12'x12'). I had trouble deciding which type of speaker I'd want for my surrounds. I listen to a lot of music so with use of ProLogic II it seemed more practical to have bookshelves matching my floor speakers. Went with the Multipole because if I was not satisfied I could sell them to my dad for his hometheater and after reading reviews about Polk FX300's and other similar speakers I decided to go with these because I heard them at Cambridge Soundworks and figured $399 pair for $259 would be worth it especially since they impressed me. Opted for the S300's instead of the S200's because 100-10Khz just isn't enough for music, and in my opinion for movies either (S300's are 80-22Khz). I mainly use it in Monopole (Direct) mode. Speaker design is sophisticated in my opinion and less plain looking then the Klipsch SS-1's which I almost bought to match my SF-2's and SC-1. 5-way binding posts are nice. I chose the white to be less of a decor clash with my white walls. Small size of 7"x11" is nice. Supplies wall screws and those plastic pieces to hold firmly in drywall. Power handling to 120watts. 10 yr. warranty is definitly a good thing. Sound great with music. DTS is awesome, Saving Private Ryan and Cast Away. And never mentioned on reviews, DD with Halo. Medal of Honor and Nightfire are sweet. (hey I'm only 18 give me a break) I would never have paid $399 for these because I don't have the money. I don't think these are worth that much. They were worth the $259 plus $5 for shipping I paid though. Similar Products Used: Onkyo SR500, Klipsch SF-2's, Klipsch SC-1, Sony DVP-NC665P. |

Strength:
The ability to change the sound fields. The Slate color blended in perfectly.
Weakness:
If you pay the full price of $450. AWESOME I was using Infinity Reference Four for my rear speakers. When I installed these using the Dipole setting. Saving Private Ryan in DTS came alive. These filled the whole sound stage like you would not believe. Money well spent. My system is made up with Sony TV KP-53XBR200, Sony DVD DV-S7700, Yamaha DSP-A1 GL, Yamaha Tuner TX-492, Yamaha CD CDM-900, (3) JVC VCR HR-S9600, (2) Infinity Center Speakers CC-3, Infinity Front Effects QPS1, Infinity Front Overture 3, (2) Infinity Subs BU-120 and all Monster cables with the most important items (2) PANAMAX MAX 1000 SURGE protectors. Strength:
Sound great in all modes. Great price for this type of speaker. Outstanding surround sound with Video.
Weakness:
None that I can find! I needed an outstanding set of surround sound speakers, that would work for both Audio and Video. Newton S300 Multipole work just great for this setup. The selector switch has three modes Dipole, Bipole & Monopole. With my setup in a large room and they sound great. My mains are a pair of Jamo 7.7, center is a Jamo 7.2 and I have a new Velodyne SLP-1200 Subwoofer. Similar Products Used: Bose, Yamaha, and JBL |
