Definitive Technology BPX Surround Speakers

Definitive Technology BPX Surround Speakers

DESCRIPTION

Definitives's bipolar surround speakers are simply the best available. Each is a true bipolar system containing two complete full-range speaker system, one on each side of the cabinet. Bipolar technology is absolutely superior for surround speakers because it synergistically combines the performance advantages of direct radiating (imaging, focus, localization, and specificity) and dipolar speakers (spacious, sourceless, all-enveloping ambience) into one ideal system which is perfect for all discret 5.1 formats including Dolby Digital AC-3*, DTS* as well as the new Dolby EX* and Dolby Pro-Logic*. They are all full-range, extremely linear, low-distortion systems which are timbre-matched to blend perfectly with all our speakers as well as other high-quality speaker systems. The Definitive bipolar rear speakers all have tremendous dynamic range as well as true high-definition sound quality which, combined with their bipolar radiation pattern, results in total immersion in the sound field.

In addition to their use as side/rear surround speakers, all are ideal for use as front effects speakers. Also, because Definitive's bipolar surround speakers are engineered as true high quality speaker systems, they are perfect for use as left and right front speakers with or without a subwoofer. Like Definitive's bipolar towers, all reproduce a huge, lifelike, exceptionally wide three-dimensional soundstage with absolutely stunning depth-of-field.

Strength:

Stunning Clarity, produces a huge wall of sound, pretty decent bass.

Weakness:

Perhaps a tad expensive, but still worth every penny.

These speakers are incredible. I am actually using them as fronts right now. I was doing this as an experiment due to the fact that Definitive Technology suggests using them in that fashion. Very surprisingly, they are correct. The soundstage is huge! They are 99% as distinct as my regular mains and that is saying quite a bit. I find that music is more present and definitely more dramatic with these speakers. Usually, I am dismayed by the fact that the music in movies tends to sound a bit layed back during heavy action scenes. Not with these speakers!!!! Audition them now, they are worth the money!!!

Excellent sorround speakers. It can produced terrific bass with lots of power. Couldn't get any better performance than these. I match this baby with the BP2000 and CLR2000 and what a perfect sound home theater, made me feel that I'm always in the middle of the action.

Strength:

Works great for music and movies

Weakness:

none

I used to own the Polk lsfx for my rears and they did a respectable job for movies.About 3 months ago I decided I needed to upgrade these to take more advantage of music DVD`s and the more aggresive movie soundtracks.I read reviews and checked all over the net for other options and posted questions on forums for what I was looking for in a surround speaker. Then a gentleman sent me e-mail on a pair he had for sale which were the Definitive BPX speakers. After talking with him I decided to take a chance on these and I am glad I did. There was a night and day difference between the BPX`s and the lsfx.Movies and music came to life and they blended perfect with my mains and center. These speakers are heavy duty and they can handle anything you throw at them.I HIGHLY recommend these speakers to anybody who wants great surrounds for reasonable money.

Strength:

incredible surround speaker, gloss black end caps and high power handling capability

Weakness:

no cut out for speaker wire run on back when mounted on the wall, the speaker wobbles because of this

I RECENTLY UPGRADED TO THE BPX'S FROM THE PRO 100'S IN ORDER TO ACHEIVE BETTER BASS RESPONSE AND TO ALSO BLEND INTO MY SPEAKER ARRAY BETTER. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS WOW!!!!! THESE SPEAKERS ARE AMAZING. THE BASS IS BETTER AND THEY ARE A LOT CLEARER SOUNDING. ALSO THEY NEVER STRAIN EVEN AT LOUD VOLUMES. I HAVE CONVERTED TO LOVING THE BIPOLAR DIFFUSE SOUND BETTER THAN DIRECT RADIATING SPEAKERS. THE REARS SOUND MORE REALISTIC AND LESS IN YOUR FACE COMPARED TO DIRECT RADIATING. A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE WEIGHT OF THE SPEAKER. IF YOU CONSIDER THAT YOU ARE GETTING SIX SPEAKERS AND GLOSS BACK END CAPS WHICH ADD TO THE WEIGHT, REALLY THEY DON'T WEIGH THAT MUCH THEN. THE ONLY THING THAT COULD BE BETTER BESIDES THE SPEAKER WIRE LAYING AGAINST THE WALL INSTEAD OF THE SPEAKER IS THAT THE BASS COULD BE JUST A TAD BIT DEEPER, BUT HEY A PAIR OF 8'S OR 10'S IN THE REAR WILL GIVE YOU ALL THE LOWS YOU NEED FOR REAR SURROUND DUTY. I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH MY BPX'S AND THEY LOOK GREAT. I DEMAND THAT YOU GO HEAR THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE OUTSTANDING. AND AT $449 IT IS AN INCREDIBLE STEAL!!!!

MY SPEAKERS ARE ALL DEF TECHS

CENTER: CLR2000

Strength:

great surround speaker

Weakness:

cost if paying retail

I got these speakers for $500 after tax from a dealer that was dropped from Definitive for not selling enough speakers. First off these are amazing speakers. They really put energy surround speakers to shame. Would I pay $900 a pair for them? I'm not sure. After hearing them I just might. Five stars.

Strength:

The build as far as the cabinetry, pretty solid ,but with that comes the weight! Be sure to secure!! Excellent low frequency and they look stylish for black finish.

Weakness:

Absolutely none at this time,I am due to upgrade amp from
65watts per ch. to 125 very soon and I anticipate that
they will sound even better!

As I posted above the construction is very adequate and pretty decent on appearance, the quality of sound rates
A+ I cannot really compare them to my previous surrounds
But I will tell you the Take Fives weren't too terribly bad for very inexpensive first try at dolby surround. I am convinced that when hooked up to a higher-end reciever they will only improve, and that's just fine with me.
VALUE-- I did pretty good real close to wholesale
OVERALL Couldn't be more satisfied at this price
Highly recommended for the budget oreinted, you would
have to spend 3times as to benefit at all

Strength:

Imaging, build quality, sound, looks

Weakness:

Price, low bass performance tails off around 50hz

I bought the BPXs to complete my Definitive Technology home theater:

Definitive Technology ProTower 400s
Definitive Technology C/L/R 2000
Definitive Technology PF18TL
Definitive Technology BPXs

For home theater applications, these speakers are terrific. As noted in other reviews, they add a terrific sense of space and depth while still providing directional cues accurately and clearly.

Watching movies with an active 5.1 soundtrack is a true treat. One of the DD5.1 demos starts with scuttering animal sound in the left rear channel - and it startles me every time with its presence even though I know it's coming. That's how real it sounds. Sarah McLachlan's Mirrorball 5.1 soundtrack, combined with these surrounds, puts you right in the audience. I can't imagine better surround speakers.
