Strength:

clarity and depth.

I bought these along with Legend floor speakers, and the CC-170 center. For what I paid, I am EXTREMELY happy. Paradigm is by far the best speaker value on the market. Quality is not always something you have to pay extra for. They sound as good or better than a lot of high-end speakers I've heard. I'm running them with a Sony STRDA555ES DD/DTS receiver. When I get the EQ on the receiver figured out, the speakers will sound even better.

As for the ADP-170's specifically, they are very impressive. I have a small room and they seem to fill it just enough to not take away from the main speakers. I was a little concerned about my placement, which is up high (almost 7ft), to the side, and slightly forward from center of the wall. Construction and speaker wire lenght were factors. However, being dipole, they throw the sound all over the place. During Armageddon, when the shuttle takes off from the asteriod, it sounded like it flew behind me at one point. Not bad for speakes that are off to the side. Big "thumbs up" for these beauties!

Strength:

true surrounds

I had Paradigm titans for rear speakers and decided to upgrade to ADP-170 to enhance the surround effect of DVD movies. These speakers have drivers on each side as oppose to one driver in front only. They can be wall-mounted or placed on stands near the listening area.

At first, I had difficulty hearing the speakers so I set the rear speaker volume to + 2 ( zero being neutral) and was satisfied with this setting.

Which is the best - Titan or ADP 170 ?
I prefer the ADP's ability to create a larger surround effect than the titan's conventional direct-radiating effect. I suggest strongly to test both speakers - it may be a matter of personnel preferences.

My System :

Receiver : Yamaha HTR 5150
DVD : Pioneer DV 525
Main Speakers : Paradigm Monotor 3
Centre Channel : Paradigm CC 170
Surrounds : Paradigm ADP 170
Sub - Paradigm PDR-10

Strength:

for the money awesome

Weakness:

none

Tried many out and the Paradigm offered most bang for the buck. Titans, cc-170, adp 170 and pdr 10 are an amazing set for the money. Compared to the box sets like the Energy Take 5, Polk and Bose this is way better sound for music and home theater. The adp 170 is a great dipole rear speaker. It is basically 2 Atoms back to back.

Strength:

Nice drivers. The tweets are designed as dipole dispersers, and the woofers are arranged as a bipolar system. It's a pretty cool concept that actually makes sense. The connections are binding posts. This is always cool, also.

Weakness:

Very heavy. I guess this is always a common problem. Oh, well. The posts could have been gold-plated.

I purchased these babies after I was not able to get a hold of some JBL THX-certified dipoles. Damn! Anyway, I tried them out, and I was severely impressed. I can actually hear deep bass out of these boys. The dispersion is not a problem at all. SOME OF MY TESTS DISCS: Saving Private Ryan, Blue Chips, The Fifth Element, and Backdraft. If you want to test the bass handling out of a similar speaker you can begin with these discs.

everything

I debated on whether to get the adp-370 or the adp-170, and for the price difference verses the sound quality the adp-170 outperformed them. In movies they fill the room rather well. If you are looking for a set of surrounds look no further, because you will be more than satisfied with the adp-170.

Very Nice!! It adds a whole new sound to rears. Its actually hard to tell where the sound origin is coming from! Rated at 100W, it is a perfect match for the rest of my system.
Current Setup:
Receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX-07
Paradigm Speakers: Mon 3, CC350, ADP170, PS1000
DVD, VCR, 300 disk changer, 32in TV
All MIT Cable

Di-polar is definately a must for rear speakers. I got mine for under $340, but I've seen them priced a lot higher. You cant beat'em in this price range!

Strength:

sound quality, effect

Weakness:

placement difficult in certain situations

I LOVE PARADIGM, I have titans up front, cc-170 in center, accoutic profiles subwoofer. Before I bought the ADP-170 I was using a pair of normal front firing speakers for my rears, sounded nice enough but I read about the dipolar approach so I picked these up. WOW, the effect in home theater is really something else, distant thunder sounds like distant thunder, It's very hard to distinguish from the real thing. It's really cool, these speakers fool me and my friends all the time, we find ourselves peeking out the windows when we hear sirens etc. The sound is so well reproduced and dispersed that you can't tell where it's coming from. I would recomend these to anyone who craves reality in home theater.

Strength:

Great performance with a sub-optimal placement.

Weakness:

None yet

I started, after reviewing this site, by picking up a pair of monitor 9's for fronts. To match these, the ADP170 and the CC370 center channel were not far behind. I thought of the ADP370 to match the Monitor 9's but it seems like overkill now, made more sense to match the center channel properly.

The system is set up in a corner (no backwall, and one side wall not there) of my finished 20X40 foot basement, so tiny speakers were out, I just didn't think that they'd drive such a big space properly. I have the ADP170's at head level under a drop ceiling, one on the wall and one hanging (I made a hanger). Probably not the optimal setup, but I have kids so stands are out, and the dipole system made more sense for the placement/seating setup. I'm no audiophile, but the sound is clear as a bell and has my family and friends amazed. Try the scene in "The Patriot" where Mel and his two sons rescue Heath Ledger's character from the squad of redcoats in the woods. The bullets whiz right by your head. Amazing response, clarity, plenty of low end.

Live Wire Audio in Windsor, Ont, CA, was very helpful and gave a great price on the package of the ADP170's and the CC370.

Currently using a JVC RX-9000VBK A/V receiver.
