Strength:

Prize is its strength number 1. I got this TV for 1449.99 and they also gave me a brand new Sony STRDE-485 for free. I like the remote, although it only lights up the volume buttons.

Weakness:

I don't like how you have to go through all the inputs and aspect ratios to choose the one you need. It was only offered in grey, and it would've liked a black unit. its sound capabilities are avg, although good enough for not AC-3 material. I don't like the reflection on the screen; if the lights are on, it's almost like you are sitting in front of a mirror. Room must be completely dark.

I've had this TV for approx. 2 weeks and I have come to the conclusion that it is a great TV for progressive scan DVD and HDTV, but not for regular cable or analog satelite signal. It took me a long time to calibrate the picture, but now I am fascinated by the color, depth, detail of its display. "Lord of The Rings" looks amazing! I did a lot of price analysis and this was the best HDTV I could find under $2000. I have not regretted the purchase, even when I am unable to enjoy regular satelite.

Strength:

Just as good PQ as any other rptv costing up to $1000 more. Good price/performance ratio. Isn't massive in the depth department.

Weakness:

A cosmetic nightmare, half-assed internal sound, cluttered and confusing remote.

For the price you can get these for, they are some of the best rear-projection tv's currently on the market. Granted, some of the rear-projections by Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Hitachi, and even the new Samsung DLP's may be better than this tv, but not only are they hundreds or even a couple thousand more, but the picture quality when compared, would probably not be too different on the JVC than on the other models. They may have nicer internal parts, or more handsome cosmetics, or better internal sound, but picture wise, for the price you can get on these, they are really top notch. They rarely have break-down problems from what I've read (mine is still going fine), but I do have my issues. Firstly, in my opinion, these are hideously ugly tv's. Although they aren't as deep as some rptv's, they are still 24", and the whole thing is in this shiny silver housing--it won't be approved by most wives, and it definitely won't blend nicely with your living room furnishings. I also hate the remote, which is cluttered and doesn't exactly provide clarity. HDTV and DVD look great and good, but cable, as one would expect from a rear-projection model, looks mucho crappy. Changing aspect ratios for different programs is quite a battle, and I don't even know if one can turn the scan velocity modulation off if they wanted too. The internal sound is decent but nothing too special. All in all, you get what you pay for, but there is a great price/performance ratio, meaning all those rptv's costing $2,500 or even $3,000 are rip-offs (there aren't big differences feature or picture quality wise), unless you are willing to spend in the $4,000 and $5,000 range, and then the beautiful Pioneer Elite's come into play--those are real nice.

Strength:

The first one I had for 2 days and the picture showed some "scratches" on the inside. The 2 and 3 both turned bad after 2 weeks time. Suddently they couldnt focus anymore. All text was not readable and even the HDTV signals from my cable service looked like normal antenna quality. I can NOT recoment any other people to buy this product.

Weakness:

3 jvc hdtv's in less than 1 months. Hope that the Sony is a better quality.

That was the worst TV I have ever bought. 3 of them in less than one month all turned out bad.

PICTURE! PICTURE! PICTURE! All the options and more I mentioned in the review

Weakness:

if any I would say the silver/grey cabinet finish kinda stands out.

This TV is a great bang for the buck. It simply has the clearest, brightest, and sharpest image compaired to other similar size wide screen TV's. I run a Progressive scan RCA DVD through Acoustic research component video cables and the picture is stunning. It has a multitude of hook up options and the built in sound is decent as well, however it still doesnt beat running the audio through a real DTS/5.1 amp. It has multiple options to keep you going well into the future, split screen PIP, digital comb filter, front panel lock,DVI/HDCP ready to name a few...

Excellent images. Don't get caught up on hype when deciding to choose which hdtv ready set to purchase. Compare images to toshiba and mitsubushi and you won't be able to tell the difference. Over-the-air signals are absolutely clear. DVD images crisp. And lastly, is the 300-400 dollar difference vs. other models worth the percieved difference. Of course not!

Strength:

Color, sound, speakers not made out of cloth like 95% of the others (great with little ones)

Weakness:

nothing

Picked up the JVC at Best Buy to the advice of one of the sales people. I was looking at a much more expensive Toshiba but he said the JVC 48" HDTV was much better as far as picture quality. I could not agree with him more. Since first turning the TV on my family and I have loved it. The picture is clear and easy to adjust, sound is great (not to mention the sound when hooked up with surround which it has an input for), and looks are high tech and "new age". For many years I thought JVC was a cheap company that offered cheaper electronics but I couldn't be more wrong with this beauty.
