Good picture with progressive DVD. Ample hook ups for additional equipment.

Expensive for mid-level picture resolution.

I bought the WS-55411 as my first widescreen. My picture is good when I watch dvds and the upper channels on digital cable. I have to say that the set up in the store is much better than mine at home. I have another big-screen in my bedroom that I bought years ago that has a better picture than this one. One day, 4 months after I got it, I was watching the WS-55411 and the picture went out. I have sound but a completely black screen. A couple of days later it came back on. 2 months later it comes and goes. I have not been able to get any help with this problem.

Picture quality, with the ability to change formats. Plenty of inputs/outputs to handle the latest gadgets and add-ons, with the ability to memorize them. Ease to move it around.

The cased housings seems very large, takes up a large corner or wall. But too I was used to a 25".

My 25" Fisher color tv had been very dependable for the past fifteen years but it was time to make the BIG plunge into the widescreen market. I think too I was waiting for prices to drop and to see if HDTV really was here to stay. My wife and I had a plan to visit several stores in our area to compare prices and models. Our first stop was Sears and it turned out to be our only stop. After looking over rows of different sizes and models we settled on the Mitsubishi WS-55311. They(Sears) had just got in some new plasma's but prices are still too high for my taste. Included was a free DVD player (which I upgraded to a Sony progressive scan), they also included free delivery after a rebate and no interest for 12 months...what a deal. Plenty of hookups in the back and front to satisfy an electronic junkie. Picture quality is stunning and the sound even thru the lower encased speakers is pretty damn good too. My first movie was Saving Private Ryan and menu controls are pretty straightforward to operate. The ability to wheel it around by yourself is a big plus too. Warnings about burning in images on the screen surprised me, maybe later on this can be solved. Went with a three-year extended warranty, which includes a yearly housecall. If I get another fifteen years out of this one like my old Fisher I'll be quite satisfied.

Crisp, no color bleed, easy to use, lots of inputs, case may be bulky but allows you to put the VCR, DVD, Surround Sound, Cable box etc. This is pretty useful. Also is easy to move around even on carpet.

Fear of burn in, do not have any problems - need more stations to use softer logo's.

First set delivered had major fault, replacement delivered with no argument 3 days later (dealer would have delivered sooner!) The new set is simply awesome, crisp throughout with or without progressive scan.

DVD picture quality. Good out of box sound. Many inputs. Almost everything is adjustable. User replaceable shield. Good viewing angles.

Some sat. channels not to clear, not sure if is the TV or not.

Good set. DVD picture is very good. Satellite picture is OK, great on some channels, not so good on others. Not sure if this a function of the TV or the satellite receiver? Use it for gamming (X-box) and have been worried about burn in, but nothing yet. Between me and my son I guess we play about 2hours per day. On the weekend the set is on almost all day, picture quality does not fade. Most sales rep at various store gave mitzu good reviews.

The performance of the set is awesome the picture is second to none. The features included in the set are great and allow great flexibility when connecting additional components.

Definately service after the sale is where this company falls short.

I have had this TV in my living room for 3 months and now there are channel logos burned into the screen. I have paid attention to how long I view channels that contain static images (station ID logos, video game images). And now the station ID logos are burned into my screen even though I did not view those channels for more than 15% of my total viewing time. Now none of the authorized repair shops in my area will even come out to look at the TV. Fine, called Mitsubishi Consumer Relations... their reply, sorry not covered, not even after only three months. They wont even entertain the possibility that this unit may be defective. I am going to have to take Mitsubishi to court to get any satisfaction. The representative from consumer relations said its not their problem because they have no control over this, well if thats the case they should not sell technology that is unsound. I waited ten years to buy a set like this, and this has been the most disappointing purchase I have ever made in my entire life.

Upgradeable - great picture even at close range - priced right.

remote doesn't allow for both Digital cable box and satellite TV, have to have another remote to use both. not much else to complain about yet...

Have two freinds that work at different best buy stores in audio/video, they both recommended the Mitisubishi ws-A55 as the TV they would buy for themselves. Bought it and love it. would recommend to anyone.

Picture Quality Value Upgradeablity: The Mitsubishi is the only manufacture offering an upgradeablity promise. You can read it online or in there brochures but simply put there sets are upgradeable to ANY NEAR FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES inluding IEEE1394(also known as FIREWIRE). Future digital connections will be IEEE1394. You can currently but HDTV VCR's from Panasonic, JVC, and Mitsubishi. To play back HDTV tapes you must have a IEEE1394 input period. If you have a set that doesn't or can't you can not show HDTV Tapes on the TV. No other manufacture other than Mitsubishi can add FIREWIRE to the TV after it is sold. The module that allows this upgrade is hardwired into the main circuit board. This upgradeablity promise goes back to the First HDTV model sold by Mitsubishi in 1997. That's right folks. A person who bought a Mitsubishi HDTV in 1997 can add FIREWIRE Inputs today. I challenge you to do that in a Sony or Hitachi or any other manufacture.

No DVI input: Personally I don't feel this is a weekness. Any component that has a DVI output must have Component Video Outputs so you will be able to hook anything to this TV. DVI may not even become a Digital connection. Firewire will and already is. The cabinet is kind of plain. Look for a Gold Plus (WS55411). Nicer cabinet and even better picture quality. Only 200.00 more.

In response to the previous review by Aaron I would say this a fluke. I would check hookups or maybe even the DVD Player. I am a Sales Manager for a local electronics store and we have sold dozens of these sets with not a single problem on any. Picture quality is better than even upper end WV600 & WV700 series Sony's and Hitachi's better models as well. As far as talking to Mitsubishi you might have the wrong phone number. I have never dealt with a better manufacture for customer service than Mitsubishi. Try calling Sony or Hitachi. Don't do it on a lunch break because you won't have enough time. One other comment as well. Another review mentioned the WSA-55 model sold at Best Buy. This model is definately surperior to any brand or model in Best Buy stores but is not equal to WS55311. The WS55311 has the following 3 key features not on the WSA-55. 1. The protective shield that is factory installed on WS55311 is a color tuned shield. It allows only light originating from Red, Green, or Blue spectrum to penetrate shield. This reduces wash out from direct sunlight and also improves contrast. The WSA55 has a plexiglass shield much like the other brands. #2. The WSA55 has auto-color balance only. The WS55311 has auto-color balance and manual color balance as well. For anyone who feels a Mitsubishi has a red push you can now adjust this manually. You can set levels individually for all colors on NTSC Test Pattern. #3. Defeatable Velocity Scan Modulation. Not getting to technical this feature is designed to improve lower resolution signals like Cable or VCR. If it is activated on DVD or HDTV it will actually interfere with picture quality. The advantage to the WS55311 is that you can assign the VSM ON or OFF on each input. The WSA55 is always on or always off. Unless your dealing with a shady dealer the price of the WS55311 is equal to the price of the WSA55. If not they should match it, the cost is the same.

Horrible image and color quality.

Pruchased the TV over a month ago. I have had nothing but problems with the TV from the minute I plugged it in. The color on the TV is all distorted and the images are horrble. I experinced this with a progressive scan DVD going into the Componenets and with DTV. Both picutres were the same I am extremely disappointed with the television. Mitsubushi was not much help either. The store I purshced the TV finally delived a replacement after almost a month or service calls in which the repair man confirmed there are major issues with this set. The new TV did not improve one bit. It looked good for about an hour and the color was once again distorted. IS this possible to happen on two seperate TV's? Will it did and I am still trying to work out the issue. The screen looked like it was only processing 256 colors instead of 32bit color and the images were all pixeized. It was and still is horrible. I will exhnage this televsion from a different brand. I would not reccomend this model to anyone. I have many friends that have other brands and the difference is night and day.

Amazing picture with progressive scan DVD. Try Blade 2 to see just how good a DVD can look. Satellite image isn't top quality, but it was the same with all the big screens I looked at. Sound was good although if you have a surround setup you definitely won't care. The remote could use some cosmetic sprucing up and more than 6 backlit keys. It works OK, but it could be better. There are enough hookups for just about anyone and all options, modes, etc. are easy to use. With a little picture calibration this entry level Mitsu will rival the picture of many more expensive sets. A great widescreen overall for someone just getting into home theater or for anyone just wanting a good deal on a nice set.

Lots of features and lots of inputs. 64-pt. convergence, color-tuned screen, 3:2 pulldown, 480p upconversion, etc. Easy to set up and use.

Has 64-point manual convergence, but not auto-convergence (maybe a weakness).

I looked at this one and compared it to the Toshiba 50" and the Samsung 55". I got this at Best Buy with model number WS-A55. This by far had the most features and the best picture. I have been very happy with this unit so far. The convergence is manual but highly configurable at 64 points compared to the Toshiba with only 9 points. Not sure how well the auto-convergene works anyway. Mitsubishi beats the Sony, Toshiba and Samsung hands down. These guys know how to make a RPTV!
