Strength:
Component input quality DTV picture quality Ease of operation
Weakness:
Unbelievably poor picture on svid inputs. Owned 2 weeks. Component video looks great. DTV antenna is stunning. Regular antenna is good. All svideo inputs look so bad as to be almost unwatchable. Color is blotchy and pictures are very pixelated. Have called service to try and solve the problem. If unable, will return. |

all around picture quality especially high deff and dvd. fire wire networking. build quality is deffinitely there.
Weakness:
remote and stretch modes I just finally traded in my Toshiba hdx82 for a mits 511 and here are my thoughts. This tv looks awesome on high def!!! Much better than pioneer elite, toshiba, and sony. I worked at tweeter where I bought it so I was able to compare it to those mentioned above for a month. Since high def will be the signal of the near future I chose this one. Side by side it looked noticeably sharper and more tightly focused than the 311 and 411. Mits rep told me this is because it uses a different crt technology than those two. He told me the missing quad field focus feature on this one compared to the 411 was not an issue since this one has a better crt design that refocuses the electron beam even more tightly using a different way. cable looks o.k. very similar to pioneer, sony, and toshiba. digital cable is very watchable on the digital channels, and cox high deff channels look awesome. I had the toshiba hdx82 for two months and convergence was always out even after service menu corrections. Plus there was a white horizontal line in the toshibas screen about half way down that apparently is in every toshiba. I couldn't figure out what caused it though. You can only see it when all lights are off and a very bright or white seen comes on like LOTR beginning of ch. 18. Never had that problem with this one. convergence holds perfectly and no annoying whit line. One major gripe is the stretch modes. they are really bad on the mits compared to toshiba. The cable 4:3 mode almost makes you dizzy compared to the toshiba, sony, and pioneer. Plus sometimes cox cable's high deff signal is 4:3 and needs to be stretched to prevent burn in but this tv for some reason won't stretch high deff signals even though the 411 can. go figure. Most noticeable strength on this one was the difference on high deff. This one really killed the competition! If that's what your looking for go for this one. it costs a lot less than the diamond and looks almost as good. high deff was noticeably cleaner than the 311 and 411 when put side by side. DVD HD Easy to move Just got my Big Screen up and running in December. Just like everyone else, DVD & HD signal is unbeatable. My signal provider, Comcast, does send out digital signal, but it's not the best. I've attached a Yamaha 6:1 receiver system with Boston speakers(Sub-Woof, center channel...) Knocks the house down!! Strength:
Beautifully simple cabinet - black without stupid looking lines. HD receiver built in and set is still affordable. Picture quality is top notch. Remote and net command 2 work well. Generous inputs and outputs. Good value
Weakness:
Possible weakness, No DVI? Remote is not the greatest No Pip or Pop with HD signal I am impressed with the quality of this unit. Not only is the HD incredible (from off-air), but the AT&T Digital Cable is also fairly good. If you are planning to view non-HD signals you should be prepared for less than ideal picture, but with some tweeking of the controls you should get a viewable result. My buddy has a Pioneer Elite (53") with dish network (3 Hd channels), and I think my set looks better in HD and analog. One word of caution - if you are shopping for an HD capable unit, make sure you understand DVI and firewire. The Mits does not support DVI out of the box, but they do promise that the unit is upgradable if some new standard is imposed. From what I have read it looks like DVI is coming and I am not sure where that leaves the Mits. Overall, when watching the TV I am floored every time I watch an HD broadcast, and the DVD picture is amazing (watch Ice Age). As is always the case, the analog signals are not as much fun to watch, but I knew that going in. Similar Products Used: None, first HD projection unit for me. |

Strength:
Ease of use. HD picture. Lighted remote, etc. etc.
Weakness:
It's a beast I just got my Mits WS 55511 last Saturday. It's a very large TV and my first of this size which no doubt makes it appear quite large to me. I get one HD station with rabbit ears and it's simply stunning. My old Sony DVD interlaced is quite impressive as well with no jagged edges or artifacts noticable. I'll be replacing it with a Pioneer Elite DV-45A in a couple of weeks since my Sony is starting to exhibit the notorious 13:00 error. Otherwise, the picture is quite good. Cable reception varies from good to lousy depending on the channel. I can't wait to change that to Time Warner which is actually broadcasting HD on certain local channels. I'm tempted to mount a directional antenna in the attic since like I said before HD is simply crystal clear on my new toy. I don't blame the poor cable reception on the Mitsubishi. Before I try to adjust anything I'll break it in for a month or so. Next purchase after the Pioneer Elite DV-45A will be Paradigm Reference Series speakers and a Pioneer Elite VSX-45TX AV Receiver. That should extoll the virtues of DVD movies, DVD-Audio and SACD quite nicely. Similar Products Used: First large screen. |

Strength:
Very Sharp Picture Easy setup (Net Command 2.0) Nice Enclosure Built-in HDTV tunner
Weakness:
Slight RED Push (Fixed via Service Menu) No Magic Focus function This HDTV had a wonderful picture right out of the box. Net command 2.0 was really east to setup and use. Overall I am very happy with this HDTV. I picked this HDTV over the 51swx20b I felt that the mits was a far better value for the money Similar Products Used: First HDTV |
