Excellent TV! 16:9 aspect ratio is excellent for viewing widescreen, progressive scan DVDs. The 64 point convergence is easy to use and convergence holds solidly over time. Every input possible is provided with component progressive scan being the most used in my installation with a Toshiba SD 6200 DVD Player. Highly recommend!

Getting this monster in your house.

This is a great set, at what I feel , is a great price. Just 6 months ago this set was 5k, and now you can get it for 37 hundred or less. What a picture! This is not my first hd tv, but it is my first widescreen. I love it. I watch dvd's all the time now. I must admit the pioneer elite has a better picture, but the price is just way too high. Also, in reference to the mitsubishi red push problem, I can see it on this set, but it is no where near as bad as others have led me to believe. My privious mits had this problem, and it was much worse. Overall this is a great product... no buyers remorse.

Strength:

64 pt convergence, excellent, value (if you don't pay retail), fantastic sound, good inputs

Weakness:

Retail price is a bit high. If I had to pay retail I would have purchased the Pioneer Elite.

I have owned this set for about 7 months now and I still love it. The picture is great and the built in speakers have not received enough notice from other reviewers. While I run my programs through Boston VR-975s now, before I purchased the speakers I was very impressed with what I heard. The multi-point convergence is a nice feature and I have found it makes a big difference to wait to calibrate the set after it has warmed up for about 20 minutes. I have not yet purchased a Hi-def setup but I am going to fairly soon. Mitsu's promise that it will adapt to future technology changeds in high-def was what put me over the edger to buy this set.

Strength:

Great Picture, Easy to follow menus,...awsome for games!!

Weakness:

None so far...

I must say it was one of the best purchases I made. I just started getting my HT system together and I decided I needed a good quality TV that I will be happy with. After months of research(seem like years), I decided to get the Mitsubishi. I looked at Sony XBRs, Pioneer Elite, Mitsubishi Platinum Plus Series, Toshiba, etc..I had first ordered a PlatinumPlus Series from PC Richards but they sold it to me without having in stock, after constantly calling and talking to the manager, I managed to work a deal to get the Diamond Series which was my original choice but was a little too expense before the deal I struck. Got my Mitsubushi HD receiver and I was blown away with clarity of this thing, pop in a game on my PS2 and "forgetta about it", virtual reality doesn't have anything on playing these games on this screen. The only draw back is getting HDTV broadcasting, currently there are only 2 channels HBOH and HDTVNET on DirecTV but even regular cable and regular broadcasting looks good (if you don't mind the compressed image), of coarse you can change the format, there are 5 to choose from. If you are in the market of getting an HDTV, do your homework, know the differences between HDTV compatible and HDTV Ready...when you buy this TV in order to get HDTV broadcasting you'll have to get an HDTV Sat. receiver, just ask ALL the questions before buying, like What exactly do I need to get HDTV broadcasting on this TV?? You'll be surprise is you don't ask, and that HD receiver is not cheap either. Another thing you'll be shocked to see, the number of inputs this thing has. Overall buy this TV if you can afford it, it bring you nothing but joy and about that RED PUSH....It's managable...Trust me...it's not like you're see red all the time...

Red push

Wonderful television. Bought it for a home theater setup. With all the connections in the rear of this thing it was the perfect compliment to my HT. I have no buyers remorse after buying this set. At this price level, there is no better HD capable set. If you want to step up a few thousand, the Pioneer Elite is a nice set. Bang for the buck, I suggest the Mits. The red push is present. While I was shopping for a TV, I couldnt find a RP television that didnt have it to some degree. Please do not pay retail for this set. Make sure you shop this around before buying. I saved myself $500 by shopping price.

Strength:

Mitsubishi's Promise that it won't leave it's customers high and dry if the HD standards change. 5 video formats and lots of inputs (1 VGS, 2 Component, 4 Composite/S-Video

Weakness:

Takes a bit of time to get this TV setup right. Can only hook up 1 DTV receiver to this TV so if you subscribe to both DirecTV and Dish, you'll need to choose who's Digital Feed you want

TV offers a nice compromise to the very expensive Pioneer Elite TV, however the Elite has a better picture and slightly better remote control, in my opinion.

Anamorphic DVD's are presented nicely on this TV, but Letterbox users be prepared for the black bars on the top and bottom unless you use Expand mode for 1.85:1 DVD's and Zoom for 2.35:1 DVD's. When in Expand or Zoom the picture is distorted (for obviosu reasons). This is not unique to Mitsu though and all other TV's will suffer the from the same thing.

Traditional NTSC 4:3 images appear distorted and it takes a bit of trying each of the video formats to determine which mode is best for what you're watching. So don't be surprised that if you change channels alot, you'll most likely find yourself fiddling with the video modes too. Most often I use Stretched mode and from time to time Standard mode. As I said it all depends on what you're watching.

If you have 2 HD receivers (IE Dish 6000 and DirecTV unit) you'll only be able to use 1, kind of a bummer but not a show stopper.

Over all the set is worth the price if you can get it under $ 4000. All I can say is work the salesman and don't pay retail. If you live in a large geographic area then let the various vendors fight for your business. This should be said for all A/V gear you purchase gang as there is a lot of room for these guys to play with on most items.

Strength:

Wonderfully detailed picture (even analog cable is gorgeous), number of inputs, 2-tuner PIP

Weakness:

navigating through Mitsubishi's menus takes a little time to get adjusted to. That aside, no weak areas in my book

Scenario: Getting married and moving into new house and wife says she has to have big screen TV and that we could use wedding money to get it(see why I married her). HD was still new to me, so I pounded the pavement and narrowed it down to my top 3, the Marantz, the Pioneer Elite, and the Mitsubishi. All three had beautiful picture quality and great color and sharpness even at the edges and corners of the screen, but the Mitsubishi was the best value. The similar Marantz would have been about $1700 more and the Pioneer (even though it had a slightly sharper picture) was $2000 more. And every HDTV I would audition could not compete with the Mitsu's price or was an inferior TV for around the same price. Once I got it home and turned it on, my standard cable looked great. It wasn't one of those "it looked great in the store, but when I got it home, it was horrible" stories. I have yet to get an HD decoder, but my DVD's look excellent. I even was surprised by the sound of the speakers in the TV. They can fill up a good sized room with sound, used for very late night viewing when the theatre volumes are not needed. In my opinion, you can't do any better than the Mitsu at this price point with all the features you get. I'm very happy with this TV and the wife is in love with it. I'm giving it 5 stars only because I can't give it 6!
