Strength:

3:2 pulldown for film sources
screen size
PRICE!!

Weakness:

Convergence
Black level stability
Color decoder

For the price, you cannot beat this Panasonic TV. Including in home delivery, my total price was $ 1706.00!! Amazing!! I just noticed xtremeshopper has lowered the price another $ 35.00 below what I paid 1 month ago. I actually bought my TV from Crazy Eddie as a price match. NOTE: Sears will match online ads!!!

Picture after optimization is amazing with DVDs!! 3:2 pulldown exhibits no artifacts and renders a truly filmlike image. I am continually amazed how GOOD dvds are!

TV required service 1 week after purchase, but serviceman was at my home 2 days after the call was placed and easily corrected the problem.

Weakness:

Very Poor Quality Control.

Update to my review below...

Now, 5 months after my claim to Panasonic, and 2.5 months after the tech guy took my light box and try to troubleshoot the problem, today I still don't have my TV...The tech guy replace the whole main digital board since he could not troubleshoot the problem, and it was NOT caused by the Line Doubler. But guess what? Today he reinstalled the light box in my TV and he encountered another problem. It won't let him do any adjustments whatsoever. So he again took back the light box to his shop. Talking about real POOR quality control!!!

User set-up

Nice picture after set was adjusted. There is a site on-line that describes how to put into service mode to get the picture optimized. Looks much better afterwards. Highly recommend anyone who has this set to do likewise. E-mail me for details: jones3810@home.com

Strength:

hdtv on the cheap, cabinet design, great value, picture

Weakness:

instruction manuel written by durnken monkeys, who also designed the interface, deinterlacer a little puny

like the reviewer before me I first saw this set at rex. they had it set up right, and on a shelf to minimize bright spots (the best set up tv in a store I've ever seen)but I didnt buy it there because they wanted full price for a floor model. The one at circuit city looked like my ex-girlfriend after a 3 day drunk but I knew what the set was capable of so I got it for 1960$,tax and all. I also have panasonics exellent rp91 dvd player so I was prepared for a
screwy menu system but panasonic really outdid themselves on this one. the worst part is the caption section. you move the cursor SIDEWAYS by pushing the up/down buttons on the remote! the opposite of every other remote in the free world. But like my rp91 the troubles well worth it. This is a poor mans hdtv, with some actual refinement (it doesnt feel like a 2000 set)one of the greatest things is the 3/2
pulldown deinterlacer that line doubles 480i material but be warned, its garbage in, garbage out for this thing. If your source is good the picture is fine but on stuff like tape the picture will be a little fuzzy. I thought my s-vhs
had a decent ep picture but on this thing ugh! the set also has "streach" modes that expand a 4:3 picture to fit the screen. this works well but not as good as the same function in my panny dvd player. Also there's a slight resolution loss. "just" mode (no I dont know what just means and neither does anybody else I've talked to) seems to work the best but I have drifted to watching stuff with the grey bars on the side if its critical material. If its letterboxed material like music videos, enterprize (on upn) there's a zoom mode that expands it to fill the screen with no resolution loss. There's plenty of inputs, including 2 componet that are hdtv capable. If your poor(like me) or just want to dip your toe in the "hi-scan" tv pool with minimal fuss this is the set for you, and it looks really nice. And even though panny could have scrimped on the extras they didnt. the pip functions are really nice(with a neat scan feature that is not mentioned in the manuel)channels can be labeled, and overall the set is a delight to use. and best of all, all of my friends are jealous! I was leaning toward a "square" set but I finally decided that the way dvds look on 16:9 sets was worth it. The price on this set makes a high scan set purchase a no brainer. How much are you going to save by getting a standard set?
trust me it wont be worth it, not with neat sets like this on the market for just a few hundred more. Even with just 480 progressive available its well worth it Its not perfect by a long shot but it is a good choice for these transitional times

Strength:

Great Picture, 6 sets of inputs for video & audio, great price for HDTV ready model.

Weakness:

No Screen protector($180 extra)

After reviewing similiar products at Sears, Best Buy, Circuit City and Rex and after reading all the reviews on Audio Reviews web site, I decided on the panasonic for several reasons. Price was $1799 with a free DVD player and free two year service contract(always get an extended service plan for projection TV's). I could have purchased the product on the internet for less, but if I would not have been satified, returning it would have been a hassel. The other reviews are right, the picture looks terrible in the store. After following the advice on "Brett's HT and Panny" web page, the picture was amazing. Especially after going into the "Service Mode" and making the suggested adjustments. The owner's manuel from Panasonic is terrible and it lacks a lot of information that you must figure out for yourself. The PT-47WX49 does not come with a screen protector, so if you want one, plan on paying about $180 to order one from Panasonic. Because I have a 4 Year old, I ordered the protector. It was very easy to install. The only down fall to the protector is that there seems to be a little glare if you watch the tv with lights on at night, depending at what angle you sit from the TV. My Home theater room is 22x14 and the tv is the perfect size. The back of the TV has 2 component video inputs with audio, 2 S-Video inputs with Reg. Video and audio inputs and 1 reg video input with audio inputs. The Front also has 1 Set of S-video with regular video and audio inputs. There is also a set on Video and audio ouputs on the back. I love the wide screen ability of the TV even when watch regular TV shows. I use the "just Mode" most of the time. When watching wide screen format dvd's, there is still the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, but they are very small as compared to the 4:3 aspect tv's. Overall, I highly recomend this product, and would buy it again.

Strength:

Nice design. Easy setup and controls. Good price.

Weakness:

Defective Line Doubler.

The picture was outstanding when I used with my JVC-723 in 480i mode. But when I switched to 480p mode, the picture got distorted. Some regions of the screen (not the entire screen) got bright white lines going up and down. I did not believe the TV was defective since it's brand new. So I tried another JVC-723: same problem. I tried another Toshiba DVD progressive scan player: same problem when the 480p mode was engaged. NOW I determined that the TV's line doubler was defective. Called Panasonic. It took 2 months until their service technicians came in to check the TV out and took the light box with them back to their shop. More than 1 month later, today my light box is still sitting in their shop because they have not got the parts from Panasonic. I don't want to day Panasonic products are inferior, but I don't know if I want to buy Panasonic again...
