Strength:

Excellent Value for the money. Nice Picture Quality and decent sound.

Weakness:

Univeral Remote does work for my sattelite dish.
TV is much deeper (sticks out) than I thought.

I bought this TV as it was a great value and it came with a free progressive scanning DVD player. I am very impressed with the picture quality and sound. I am new to the home theatre scene and until I purchase a receiver and speakers, the built in audio will have to suffice.

I know that Hitachi have the reputation of being the leader in rear projection TV's. However, I looked at this TV side-by-side with a Hitachi and couldn't notice any significant difference to justify spending the extra $$$. (Both TV's had a High Definition Signal)

DVD's look amazing with this TV. Depending on the channel, sattelite looks quite good too. I can't wait to get a HDTV receiver for my dish. Right now, I am watching standard 4:3 signals in the "Justify" mode to fill the screen. Tiger Woods looks fat on the T.V. but after a few minutes, it's easy to get used to. It is nice though watching widescreen movies without the black bars.

My only disappointment with this unit was the size (too deep - sticks out from the wall) and the remote. I can't get the "action" button to control my Sattelite Receiver.

Other than that, a great value for someone who want's this type of T.V.

Strength:

Great picture. Good color rendition. Good value.

Weakness:

Unit does not recall preferences for different inputs (e.g., cable, DVD, VCR, etc.). More detailed tweaks can only be done through the service menu.

The first time I saw the Panny was at Circuit City and Best Buy (actually I saw the 47WX49, which only differs the 49 does not have a built-in screen protector and it has a cheaper remote). I was not impressed at all. But then I saw it at P. C. Richard & Son hooked up to a satellite hookup, receiving an HDTV signal. I made adjustments in the user menu (color, tint, brightness, cntrast, and sharpness) and it looked as good, if not better, than the Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Sony, and Hitachi HDTV's that were near it. All those sets sold for more than the Panasonic! I believe they were broadcasting the Jazz Festival at Monterey. I was convinced this would be the set for me!

Well, I have now had it home for 3 weeks and I am quite happy with it. I made some adjustments to it through the service menu (see references by other reviewers) and became even happier with the image before me. [Make sure you write down all of the original settings in the service menu before you make changes. This can save you if you inadvertedly change something that deteriorates the image quality.] I decided to push the envelope further and I had an ISF claibrator come in and tweak it further. Wow! I am in heaven now when I watch DVD's! The picture is now more three-dimensional and improvements were made to: color rendition, contrast, brightness, and overall picture detail. Thanks, Kevin! After he was done, Kevin commented that the set is great deal at $1750 and he thought its color decoder is better than the one used by Mitsubishi and Sony.

I will update this review in a few months when I receive my HDTV converter box from Time Warner Cable. I am currently on the wait list. Premium cable channels come out really good except for the fact that they are not being broadcast in 16:9. I can't wait for that converter box! I'll let you all know.

Strength:

Clear Picture (the best in the store). Right size. Lots of inputs.

Weakness:

see below

I bought this 3 months ago to use in my basement when I completed my renos. So, I barely watched it in the first three months (kept it in a seperate room and turned it on for my son to watch once in a while). Then one day, after about an hour of viewing, all went green. I had the repair guy in and he said the green "tube" is gone and now I'm waiting for a part (4 to 6 weeks). I also noticed a streak in the picture that never goes away. The repair guy said that they may have to replace that too if the new tube does not correct it.
I'm hoping that after this (I'm anticipating at least a 2 month wait before all the repairs are done) that all is well. If not .... I will pester them for a replacement.

I don't know if it's poor QA or just bad luck. I own other Panasonic products and have been happy with them.

Strength:

Great picture

Weakness:

Setup

This was the first projection TV i have purchased and i am very happy with it so far. The picture is very clear although i find it may reveal how poor the quality of cable tv really is but thats why i hooked a dish up to it.
Anytime you can get a free progressive scan dvd player you should take it. The picture quality when watching DVD is better than a tube..
In my opinion this is great value for a HDTV set and a great addition to any home theatre.
