I found the Pro520 on sale and couldn’t pass it up. This is by far the best picture out there. I was scouting around for deals on the Mitsubishi Diamond series and the Toshiba Cinema series when I came across this one. Great convergence adjustment, gaming mode so you’ll be less likely to get burn-in from a console game, surround-sound and better stretching capabilities. The entire picture is stretched instead of the ends. Have a dealer show you some of the others in antennae mode, if they’ll allow it, and compare it to the Elite series. If you’re looking for the truest picture, the Elite series is the one to get. Any gamers out there? The split-screen uses the entire screen. You don’t get a border like you do with the others. Seeing/playing Splinter Cell or Halo with the HD AV kit is enough to make you want to get a second job to pay for this baby.

Great picture and Wide Modes

Remote control is weak. Get Universal to replace it.

I really enjoy the pro520hd. It fits perfectly in my room. I'm sitting roughly about 9.5 feet away. Wish I had more room. Picture quality is best in it's class. The picture is great w/ progressive scan dvd. I will try to get hd saterlite soon. I'm very happy for the price I paid.

Fantastic picture, it even makes most regular cable channels look good. Great cabinet finish!

The thing is big and heavy - but are'nt all projection TV's?

The best set there is! I have seen and owned many different sets, but I have to say, in my opinion, the Pioneer PRO-510 is the finest you can get. If you are in the market for a projection TV and can afford the buy in (I've seen the new PRO-520 for as low as $4000) take a look at this set.

Stunning Picture Quality Stunning Finish Warranty

High Price that''''s it.

I intially purchased a Hitachi 43" Ultravision and also a Mitubishi 55" WS-55809 which I paid around $2750 for with the 3 yr. extending warranty. I looked at Widescreen HDTV''''s for along time and read many reviews trying to decide. I knew what I wanted (Pioneer Elite Pro 55") but the price was out of my range. I stopped in Ovation last week and saw this TV in the back marked down to $3300 due to it being a display model. I said to myself "wow" how can I end up with this. I only had owned the Mitubishi for around 10 days so I ended up returning it and for only $750 more I had in my opinion the best HDTV (Widescreen) on the market. The picture quality is stunning no matter what source you use," even regular cable looks great. The HD DVD images from my Denon 2800 is as clear and sharp as it gets. In my opinion, "which is subjective" the Pioneer Elite series stands alone when it comes to Quality, Build, and Picture not to mention the fantastic Black Laquer Piano gloss finish which ties it great with my Definitive Technology Speakers. Mitsubishi, Sony, Hitachi, Toshiba, all make good HDTV''''s and to me it was very hard for me to chose between those. You hear good and bad about all of them and the picture quality is very close with each one of them. The Pioneer though stands out amoung the rest and if you can afford the high price it is well worth the investment. I am so lucky I found one within my price range and now I know I have the best possible picture I can get. No more searching or wandering if I made the right decision," that''''s a very big relief".

Picture quality, ability to stretch normal tv without noticing it.

Are you kidding? Leave the weaknesses for Sony or Mitubishi who are light years behind Elite rear projection.

I just got the PRO520HD and the DV-37 DVD player. What a combo!!! Everything you input to this TV looks good or great. Even old B/W pics or VHS look very nice. DVDs look so nice, I no longer need to go to the theater. HDTV looks nicer than the theater!!! I didn''t realize they made a rear projection this nice. I am a picture tube person as I am very picky on Video quality. This is the only set that looks like a picture tube and shows true colors. The sound is very good with the speakers on this set, but hook it up to HT rec to make it dance. I dropped my cable company and went to a Sat dish so I could get HBO and SHOW time HDTV. I want nothing to do with any company that isn''t promoting HDTV. We have had the same broadcast standard for over 50 years and it is about time we move ahead and leave standard difinition for the kids....lol HDTV utilizes over 2 million pixels on your set. DVD(which looks great)only uses about 350,000 pixels. Reg TV is much less than DVD making it the "Ford Pinto" of entertainment. Once you taste HDTV, anything else is childs play.

Great picture out of the box. Even regular TV looks good on this set.

I haven't seen any yet

I wanted a widescreen TV, primarilly for viewing DVDs. I look at the new Mitsubishi models, which looked pretty good, but decided to go with the Pioneer for a few reasons:

- Good word of mouth on the internet
- Regular TV looked very good on it
- I loved the cabinet

I have only had the set for a few weeks now, but I have not been disappointed in any way so far. My DVDs look simply amazing on it.

I had originally ordered the TV from a local dealer, understanding that while I would pay more, I could expect excellent service. The dealer failed to deliver the TV on the promised date and was rude so I cancelled the order. I saved a bunch of money ordering over the internet from Your Electronics Warehouse. The TV was delivered promptly, and in good shape.

UNBELIEVABLE picture for regular NTSC viewing!
Absolutely phenomenal built in line-doubler.
Two component video inputs, accomodates Progressive Scan DVD's and of course HDTV.
Truest color of any set on the market under $10k.

Remote could've been more intuitive.
You have to remember to change modes when viewing 4:3 DVD's.

I just can't figure out where these reviewers are coming from, and I definitely don't know what sets they are viewing.

This set is phenomenal.

Starting of course with video delivery, IMO you would be hard pressed to find a cleaner, crisper, more competent presentation on sets costing TWICE as much, and at $6300 list, this set aint cheap!

One important note: That comment is absolutely 100% contigent on having the set PROFESSIONALLY CALIBRATED, preferrably by an ISF tech.

That said, once the astounding 72 point digital convergence is done (as opposed to the competition's 8 or 9 point convergence), and the color temperature is set to its proper 6500k (give or take), and you're sure the three 7" CRT's are aimed and focused properly, and you smartly disable the Scan Velocity Modulator (a nifty option every DTV should offer), I challenge any other manufacturer to provide the Home Theater enthusiast with a better, more film like picture than the Pro510-HD.

Perhaps the reviewers that bashed this thing aren't astute enough to realize that this set, (and ALL DTV sets) is factory set in such a way that makes viewing out of the box without any tweaking a near impossibility.

I'm not saying I'm a video guru, or even an audiophile, and that's not meant to slight any of the other reviewers. I'm just saying it's possible some people just purchase a DTV to have one, without doing their homework prior to purchase.

Out of the box, color is way too blue, as the temperature from the factory is set way too high, (approaching 14,000k, or so I'm told) and convergence most certainly will need to be played with.

Also, for the truest picture from pre-recorded sources as well as broadcast TV, cable or satellite, you should disable the SVM, which attempts to make blacks blacker, and whites whiter, a feature most can live without, and few with even notice, those that do probably won't like it anyway.

Once running and broken in, transfer from HDTV sources (though currently few and far between) and DVD is simply amazing. Anamorphic DVD's are stunning, and if you choose, you can use your Progressive Scan DVD player's native 480p technology via the component video inputs on the set. But you don't really need to, because regular interlaced DVD transmission is instantly upconverted to 480p, (or damn close to it!) via the built in line-doubler, which I think rivals the best out there, including some Faroudjas!

Pioneer gives you options when viewing 4:3 material, including "cinema-wide", which stretches the picture to fill the screen. Sure, you'll get some distortion compared to true 16:9 sources, but it beats the heck out of watching the picture about 28% smaller in the middle of the screen with gray bars around it (read pan & scan), though some (like my wife) actually prefer it that way.

My reference test is the DVD "The Matrix", and I went directly to the lobby scene, where everyone complains that the coloration is too green. It is...but guess what? For whatever his reasons, that is how the director intended it to be, and the better your video system, the more you'll notice it!

The Pioneer Elite Pro series DTV's all come with tons of inputs, a slot for Pioneer's own HDTV tuner, and one of the nicest deep black piano finish lacquered cabinets you'll find on ANY set, let alone most fine furniture.

Obviously I love this set for a lot of reasons. It aint cheap, but when it comes to RPDTV's, you definitely get what you pay for. I believe this set can deliver a picture of quality rivaling or exceeding front projection CRT units at twice the price, and no, you don't have to put it in the middle of your room, but once you get a load of it's amazing capabilities and aesthetic beauty, you just may want to!

Build quality, picture quality, flexibility of inputs.

borderline quality of built-in speakers

I love this set. I was very much jaded about RP units until I saw the Elites at a dealer. I was blown away then, and I retain that sense now. These units are extremely good sets.

I recently had the dreaded "tear" repaired at no cost. There is an electrostatic dischange of sorts which periodically "tears" the image for a half a second or so. Many of the earlier units had this and the fix is incorporated into the newer units. They swapped a board. No more image tearing.

Anamorphic DVDs are stunning. I also pipe HDTV via the RGB input and this must be seen to be believed. I also opted for this smaller unit (of the three in this series) for the simple reason of space. As it stands it just stops people in their tracks. Rich colors, line-doubling provokes no artifacts that I can perceive and the convergence is perfect edge to edge.

If you have the cash, this unit is worth the price.

It's a honest salesman that got me on to this set.
I had made my mind up on the Sony 57" 16-9 set and was looking around for the best price.In a store I was looking at it with a salesman and i said i think this is the best set for DVD and NTSC tv, he told me apart from the Elite , yes it is. ????
I went to one of the 2 stores that sells them and voilà, its in my living room.
I have it hook up to a cable digital box, the picture is quite acceptable in natural wide.
until 3 days ago I used a Toshiba 3006 dvd player 4 years old 1st gen. The line doubler on the 510 made for great viewing, but now I have the Pioneer Elite DV 38A pushing
the signal to the 510 !!!
The result is amazing,I am watching 3D TV !!. All you 510 owners must go check this 38A out.
At the store we connected a DV-37 and DV-38A to a 710's 2 component inputs and I had brought dvds that the store had on hand, We loaded
the same movie in both machines and ran them with a 10 sec delay so we could compare feeds,

The DV-37 was very clean but was not close to the sharpness
and absolute ditter free rendition of the DV38A.
I am in Home theatre heaven.

The line doubler really enhances the picture, the quality
of the picture.

The sound could be of better quality

This is the best unit we could find, by selecting the best
reviews of all the HDTV UNITS, we eliminated units that the consumers felt were to weak to consider. So we decided to just evaluate only the Televisions that fit our needs and were worthy of considering. Looking at the pros and cons of each, decided the the overall quality and upgrade ability of the PIONEER ELITE series was worth investing in. We are very happy with our selection in this unit, and would recomend it to others. Of course it sells its self.
We had never owned a projection type TV this Pioneer Elite
is just hands down above its compution. We were concerned
about the lack of dealers and certified tecnicians qualified
to work on the unit in the remote are we live. This is
why we decided on the Elite for the extra warranty.
