Strength:
Image quality when calibrated/set up properly. Fit and finish. Available user adjustments. Available inputs.
Weakness:
This is one heavy beast!A real two man lift. Chances are you will have to have a fix done on the drive cards, which is now quite painless, and free. A minor inconvenience when one considers the benefits of this display. No built-in HD tuner. No Cable Card The color streaking problem has been corrected, so now I can highly recommend this display. For the current asking price, this is an awesome investment in home theater bliss. The image produced by this set, WHEN PROPERLY CALIBRATED, cannot be touched by Plasma, LCD or DLP. It's all about deep, rich, dark chocol...oops...BLACKS, and the Pioneer 530HD's got em'! Sporting two HDMI inputs, this display is ready for high definition DVD players almost as much as I am. My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed countless movies watching this display, and if I had to do it all over again I'd buy the very same set again. This is after having spent many hours watching my own DVD's on various offerings out there. DLP's offer a great, bright image, with no chance of burn-in, but the image produced by the Samsungs left me wanting. LCD's simply couldn't cut it for me with their dark grey blacks, and the performance (RPTV LCD's, mind you) with fast moving action just isn't there quite yet FOR ME. Remember, this is one anal man's opinion, and other's may vary. If you don't play hours of video games each day, and you don't mind tweaking a little here and there, this display will make you happy. HD programming simply looks stunning when it's not compressed (Damn you, Time Warner!). The fit and finish on this display is top notch. The gloss-black, piano finish looks very elegant, and matches a lot of decorating styles tastefully. The built-in speaker system actually performs quite nicely, and this is in comparison to a pretty good home theater system. When, on occasion, I use solely the built-in speakers I'm impressed with the bass and clarity. There are better built-in speakers, but these work just fine for what they are. Highly Recommended if you can still find one, especially at it's current price!! Similar Products Used: Mitsubishi Diamond (My second choice) Hitachi Ultravision |

Strength:
Outstanding Performance!
Weakness:
Reliabilty and Customer Service are horrible! Absolutely stunning display. Outstanding high def. performance. Best analog performance I have seen on a HD set. Loved everything about this unit until... I am having a problem with intermitent horiontal lines green mostly but also blue and red. This is a processor problem and Pioneer is aware of it. However I have been waiting for the part for repair for going on 6 months now. Needless to say I am very dissatisfied with Pioneers customer service. It is getting to the point where this may end in letigation. With every call to Pioneer I get another gaureenteed date of delivery which is a month out. Last call they said that I would have my set repaired by the end of the month, for sure. That was on November 3rd, today is December 4th and guess what....I am looking at green lines on my TV right now! They have extended my warranty 6 months but that really doesn't help me since it has taken 6 months to fix this problem. Great set when it works properly. |

Strength:
Great picture regardless of the source. Plenty of HD inputs Build quality is second to none Advanced Calibration capabilities
Weakness:
Unable to figure out how to change brightness. This is a review of the Pioneer Elite Pro 530HDI build date 12/03. Model similar to 530HD but pioneer has added 2xHDMI inputs and more advanced calibration capabilities. Picture quality is the best that I have seen outside of $20K front projectors. I am yet to see a plasma that can produce a better picture that the Elite RP. I researched for 3 months prior to purchasing the Pioneer Elite, I entertained the new Mitsu. Diamond, High end Hitachi, Toshiba and many fixed pixel displays prior to my purchase. The Pioneer was the clear winner in my eyes. Internal video processing does a great job on standard analog signals produced by my local cable company. The channels in HDTV look incredible. DVD playback is all up to your player. The display will only be limited to the quality of output on your DVD player. I have the Denon DVD-3800 and the picture is incredible. Menus on the television are simple to navigate. The only sight hiccup would be the absence of a brightness level in the menu. The piano black finish on the display adds a bit of class to this almost perfect unit. I strongly recommend that if you are in the market for a HDTV that you forget about the plasma/DLP rave and pick up one of the best RPTV's ever made. Save your money and buy a high end DVD player with high-end cables, you will not regret it. Strength:
Excellent picture on standard definition Excellent picture on High definition Beatuiful cabiniet 2 DVI inputs Never have to align the converenge
Weakness:
Maybe a little weak on DVD playback I bought this tv back in march,I first bought a mittisubi 55 in and return it after 2 weeks. The mitts.was awful on standard definition and all the stretch modes were awful, everybody look fat and the picture was distorted. But on DVD the picture was stunning, very very good, but I could not stand to watch it on regular tv.Iwas watching through direct tv.I returned it and got the the pioneer and on standard tv looks great, all the stretch modes on the pioneer are excellent you can not tell they are stretch on any part of the screen. On DVD the picture looks very good but I don,t think it looks as good as the mitts.did though. And on high definition the picture looks very good but I really can't compare it to any other high definition because I didn't have a high def.receiver when I had the mitts. On ESPN sunday night football the picture is stunning but on high defs movies I don't think they look as good.It could be the source but I don't know for sure,I would like someone's input on this. My DVD player is a Pioneer DV45,I would like to think a better DVD player would make the pioneer TV look better on DVD but not sure, but I know on the mitts the same player look awesome on progressive scan, better than the pioneer. All in all though I just could not watch the mitts on standard definition, after paying that much for a high def tv and the picture was just awful.Don't get me wrong the pioneer has a very good picture on dvd I just think it should be better, espically since it looks so good on standard def.I still don't think there is a better rear projection tv than the pioneer elite. If anyone has any suggestion about how to get a better picture on DVD I would appreciate it.My main gripe about the picture on DVD is it looks a little grainy and I don't think the grain is suppose to be there.what I mean by grainy is snowy. Unless the pioneer is more senistive than the mitts and a better DVD player would solve that?? Similar Products Used: Mitts 55 inch diamond |
