Strength:
1) Picture quality. 2) Color saturation and accuracy. 3) Best for displaying video and movie. 4) Solid built and beatiful-looking wood case.
Weakness:
Heavy, heavy and it's really heavvvvvy (You need at least four strong men to unload and move this giant if you don't have the forklift). It's absolutely best buy for a 64" HDTV projection monitor. Pioneer and Mitsubishi's projection TV are of the best ranking at all, but Pioneer one is $500.00 cheaper than that of Mitsubishi. The picture quality is awesome when playing progressive anarmorphic DVD and HDTV source. When watching "the distinguished gentleman" on Starz HDTV channel from my local cable company in 1080i true HDTV mode, you're just feeling you're watching the movie in the theater (it seems I'll never need to go to cinema.). The two full-range speakers with virutal surround sound makes you believe you're actually listening to the 5.1 dolby digtal speakers; its frequency response, dynamic range and the surround effect are one of the best I've ever heard from a TV. This TV uses the traditional three 7" projection tubes (don't know the brand and model of tubes, Pioneer doesn't manufacture the tube) to produce the wonderful pictures, even it is bulky and heavy (290lbs, costco doesn't do delivery, had a nightmare to get it back into my apartment), it produces by far the best video quality among all technologies (such as DLP, plasma, LCD, LCOS and etc). If what you want is to watch MOVIE, this is the one you need hunt for. New technogloy doesn't mean it is the best. Similar Products Used: None. |

Case could look better This is an update to my review below. The monitor is working as well as ever. I have now updated my whole system except the monitor. I could not find anything under $10,000 that would compare (With the exception of the Elite). This set is a steal and should be seriously looked at by anyone looking for a Rear Projection set. By the way my comment about Audiophiles has generated much junk mail, it was not meant to insult the true Audiophile but rather a request for people to truthfully judge their own knowledge. Could look better 90% of the people who call themselves Audiophiles on this site know very little, please post your qualifications correctly as this site is a great reference for those who need help. The is a great monitor and quit possibly one of the top monitors on the market. It is outdone by the Pioneer Elite version but not by much. The convergence control is one of the best I have seen and holds it’s settings well. The overall picture is incredible and bright. The controls are straightforward and easy plus it features direct video selection that gets rid of flipping through all the video inputs. My monitor has was ISF certified after its burn period and the quality is as amazing as any monitor I have ever seen. The burn in period is longer than I have ever experienced (about 35 hours) but it was no too bad. This is by far the best deal in a monitor and even at full retail prices the set is a better deal then most. Strength:
Picture Quality, 4 different inputs for a tv almost a many as a reciever
Weakness:
analog tv signals imperfections magnified. I can't wait for for HD in Eureka This TV is amazing. It has better picture quality than smaller hdtv's. When compared to a 61 inch Hitachi Ultravision, this tv blew it away, and the hitachi was over 1000 dollars more. I can't tell you about the sound because i have not used it having a reciever and all. |

Strength:
Outstanding picture quality in every respect. Also excellent stretch modes fill the screen with almost no noticeable distortion. I haven't really used the built in speakers so I can't comment
Weakness:
None except that it is quite large so you need a fairly large room or a very understanding wife. Oh, and no dvi but I'm not going to worry about a standard that may or may not survive and won't make the set obsolete in any event. I will keep this very short. The dvd picture (via Panasonic CR72) is amazing. Puts the theaters to shame. Regular sdtv is better than I expected, picture comes close to dvd on the right channel. I don't have a hdtv source yet but if it's much better than dvd the only way to improve on it will be to hire live actors to get inside the box. Similar Products Used: None, prior to this my tv was a 31" Quasar. I did, however, compare to Toshiba, Sony, Panasonic, Phillips, Mitsubishi and JVC over the course of about a year. |

Strength:
Stunning picture quality in NTSC,DVD and HD
Weakness:
Screen protector too reflective. I sold a SONY 53" 4:3 TV to buy the Pioneer, and havent been sorry. I also have digital cable with HDTV on a couple of channels, and the 1080i picture is almost 3 dimensional. The picture quality benefitted from using the Video Essentials set up disk, and the picture quality in any mode is first class. I preferred the Sony remote interface, for example to change inputs is much simpler with Sony than Pioneer, and the Sony allows you to put a video label on each input. The construction is very solid, all MDF frame. I agree with previous reviewers commenst about the highly reflective screen, - it can be a pain. The slightest light anywhere in the room will be seen on the screen Similar Products Used: Sony 53" RPTV |

Strength:
1. Price 2. Very well built. 3. Picture quality
Weakness:
1. Protection screen is too reflective. I've compared several RPTV's before decided to purchase this model. It's the best RPTV outhere for the money. Pictures on DirectTV is surprising good. DVD picture is even better. Excellent unit.. Similar Products Used: None. |

Strength:
Pictures quality. Great looks and style. 2 HDTV inputs. 24-pin monitor connection to computer. Natural Wide Mode. Line doublers. Remote control function for the Digital Cable.
Weakness:
Reflection on the Protective screen. Gray bars on the Regular TV mode. Cheap looking remote control. Here are the good things. The TV is well built. The buttons on the front panel does not good cheap at all. When you compare this with Toshiba 65HX81 and the Panasonic. This TV has the best look. The quality of 4:3 TV pictures: The line doublers has really improve the pictures quality a lot. The pictures looks great on both regular TV broadcast signal via cable and VHS video tape. The natural wide mode does not squeeze the picture as much as other 16:9 TV. The people looks very natural unless you compare it with the regular mode. Without comparison, you will think the broadcast is 16:9 format. DVD quality: When I play the Pearl Harbor DVD with progress scan DVD player (It just a JVC DVD player, it costs me $215 in Best Buy.) The picture quality even better than watching it in the theater. The remote control''s function is amazing. I bought a $199 Sony remote control before, it can control most of the things except it doesn''t have enough function for the Digital Cable Box. This pioneer remote control has all the function button it needs for the cable box. As a man, we all know the cable''s remote control is the most important thing in the house, can''t live without it. Here are the few bad things. The protection screen has too much reflection. I have a hard time playing video in the day time. Specially, Pioneer recommended that you have to select Game Mode to play video game. In game mode, the screen has very low contrast and the screen is dark. Even though you don''t need to use the Regular Mode most of the time. If you use it, you will find that gray bar on both sides of the screen are really brothering you. Why can''t they use black bars instead of the bright gray bars? By the way, Pioneer does not recommend you to use Regular Mode in long period of time. They said it will cause a burn out (So does most of the other 16:9 TVs.) I wish they should improve the style and the looks of the remote control. Even though, it has all the good function, but it still looks like a $19.99 remote control. |

Strength:
Incredible picture, multiple screen modes, great looking set
Weakness:
remote could be better I purchased this set sight unseen due to the great reviews elsewhere on the internet. I have been researching high definition ready sets for approx. 2 years now and have seen quite a few of them in the stores. None of the pictures could come close to the 53" I looked at in Best Buy. They do not carry the 64" in stock so I had to special order it! I have a 20' x 20' room and this set looks great in it. I have not tweaked any of the settings yet because the picture was so good right out of the box. I have a DVD player set up through RCA jacks and I can't imagine the picture improving when I go to componant cables and Progressive mode. I also have digital cable with 2 high definition channels. Picture quality is excellent! I can't say enough good things about this set. I really felt that the manufacturers of HDTV had not created sets yet that could bridge the gap between regular NTSC and digital. This set does it all! Similar Products Used: none |
