Unreliable receiver Very poor factory assistance Purchased over the internet for a much better price than local dealers. The set was great until just after the warranty ran out. Fortunatly I had purchased an extended warranty. The receiver goes out. Now the set is taken away to be repaired, back to the 20 inch CRT. A couple of months later the set comes back as good as new. Still has great picture and awsome features. A few months later the receiver goes out again. Bad thing about integrated units is that when it needs repairing they have to take the whole unit. If I had a HD monitor then just the receiver would have to be repaired and I could still enjoy DVD's etc... Now the warranty company says it's to expensive to repair and they want to replace the unit. To bad it isn't made anymore. Hope to settle with the warranty company soon but as of yet I have been without this TV for another 2 months. RCA would not assist me with this problem at all. They admit to the units design problems and consider it a lemon but they would not assist me in obtaining another RCA. Guess the have lost another customer for life! If you are nit picking, the sound. This is an expensive HDTV but well worth the price if you enjoy movies and entertainment as much as I do. There were about 15-20 brands of HDTVs at a store where I went to compared them before deciding on the RCA. The picture was by far the best and it is immediately apparent if you have the same demo tape playing on all the HDTVs (you can bet these are demo tapes). It turns out that HDTVs are classified by a range of pixels. 1000 megapixels and above being the starting range (this may not be the correct number but you get the idea that they start at a lower number and go up from there to be classified as a HDTV) This model has twice the mumber of pixels required which translates into a great picture. Second it has a decoder built in which decodes signals from a mumber of sorces and an extra decoder costing 500.00 isn''t required that you will need with most all other brands including the 61 inch RCA model below this model that looks the same. They may not tell you this before you write the check so be sure and ask if need a decoder if you decide on another brand. It comes with numerous inputs on the back and you can do just about anything you would like to do or plug in including several antenna inputs and media plugins. It has two extra speaker outlets where all you have to do is plug in two more speakers...and of course lines out to go to your surround system. The sound should be satisfactory to anyone who isn''t an audiophile or big into surround. If you are, then you can use the line out to plug in your surround system. I was satisfied with the sound but that was about it. Now a word of caution.....I have read that there is a reliability problem with TVs made by Thomson who have made other RCA large screen TVs. I have a 36 inch RCA that has gone trouble free for two years so I decide to buy the 61 inch based on my experience with them... I went back into the store where I first compared the HDTVs and the one I had seen was gone. I asked the sales person what had happened to it and he said it was on loan to a customer who had one that had to be repaired. ?????? So there, but I bought the TV based on my experience and still recommend the TV highly after 6 months. Similar Products Used: GE, RCA, Phillips |

Built in HDTV DTV Tuner
Weakness:
Only one component video input, no s-video on front jack This has some great qualities for the price. You get a built in HDTV tuner which sells for $500 and up when bought seperately. Color quality is very good on progressive scan DVD and HDTV. Over all its a good value Similar Products Used: Sony, Hitachi |
