Strength:
Awesome picture that even better with a progressive scan dvd. Sound quality is good but a seperate audio system is the way to go.Plenty of inputs but no DVI. Menus are easy to navigate. Looks great
Weakness:
4:3 will ruin 1 or more tubes with extended viewing in this mode I am sitting here reading all these reviews and I can't underatand why everyone is having such a difficult time with this tv. I purchased it new almost 2 years ago and the only problem I had was one they don't tell you about. DO NOT WATCH THIS OR ANY OTHER WIDE SCREEN TV IN THE 4:3 MODE FOR ANY LONGER THAN 5 TO 10 PERCENT WHEN VIEWING STANDARD DEF TV!!!! I have switched permaently to wide zoom. Full and zoom don't that well. It will make cetain programs seem a little weird, but you must not forget that this tv is made for wide screen and high def programing. The problem with the 4:3 mode lies within the tubes themselves. If you watch in like this for a while, 3 mo's in my case, one of the tubes will freeze in that position(green in my case) and what is left will be color run on. My whites in wide screen mode were all pink(red an blue tubes tubes combined)twinged in a 4:3 square. I called Sony and 3 days later a tech came out and told me all about it. It seems that tv manufactures, (not just Sony) want people to buy these sets even if they have no plans to go hi-def.Sony replaced the tube in less than a week and the tv has had NO problems since. I have a dish network satellite and have used the s-video and rcs audio jacks. They offer a vastly superior picture over the coax cable. I have used a test disc to do basic adjustments, but will not use any service menu ones as this will immediatly void any claim of a defect to Sony. After almost 2 years with this TV I must say that its picture is awesome. Any distortion is from the source(i.e local stations)I can't wait to upgrade to High Definition as the best that I can do now is dvd with progressive scan. P.S. its a good idea to use a test disk every 6 mos or so just to keep everything lined up. Similar Products Used: sony, sony and sony |

Strength:
I THOUGHT it was beautiful
Weakness:
Spent 2200 and now it is crappy!! BULL! I am not letting SONY get away with this. If I don't get a replacement I am filing a complaint with the better business bureau! I wrote an earlier review after I got the T.V. now I have the problem like everyone else. DOUBLE VISION seems to be the problem. I am getting a blurring with lots of colors running. I called sony and my closest "FIX IT" guy is 100 miles away. I hope they make house calls. Do we know is this thing is being recalled. I am pretty ticked. I have about 3 weeks left on my 1 yr. warranty. I don't want to go through repair men only to find out my warranty is out and I am screwed! Similar Products Used: Sanyo, Zenith. |

Strength:
Strong green flicker and double vision.
Weakness:
Strong green flicker and double vision. We loved it at first. Then we got the flicker!!! An electronics service company provided by Sony came out and decided to repace 3 tubes and now they have been out an additional time to "line it up". The repair guy just left and said "let's cross our fingers it doesn't shift." Well I gave it 5 minutes and SHIFT HAPPENED. Sony is ridiculous and very difficult to deal with. I want a new TV and I want it now. I urge you not to buy this TV!! Fed up with flicker in St.Louis |

Weakness:
Set isn't worth watching now due to flicker problem. Poor quality. I loved this set and then began to notice I couldn't get the red out of faces. I tried and tried adjusting the color and hue. The greens seemed brown and the picture seemed to fade in and out. I think this is the flicker problem people have been talking about. How disappointing. I haven't read a review that said this problem is fixable. |

Strength:
The set is nice if you don't have problems.
Weakness:
BUYER BEWARE. Set is unreliable. This is an update to my review last year. I gave this set 5 stars. I'm taking them all back. In august, my set developed the flicker. It's not green, but it happens on black and is sporatic. IF YOU OWN THIS SET, TRY TURNING OFF THE INTERNAL SPEAKERS... it becomes A LOT WORSE. I have had the color go out on it, not sure if it's the green gun or not. I've had 8 service calls, video board, transistors and 3 guns replaced and still the same damned flicker. Yesterday I was approved for a replacement.. I dunno Hitachi or Toshiba? I do NOT want to go back to Sony... they'd give me the WS500 model as replacement. {sigh} Similar Products Used: Hitachi 51FS500, Toshiba 50HDX82 |

Beautiful picture and sound, love the features and the menu options.
Weakness:
Flickering, Rex's service can't fix. After first month developed the flickering that everyone is complaining about. TV has been out for service twice, a week each time, still flickering. Rex Electronics says never heard of the problem before. Ask for new tv yesterday, waiting for reply. Similar Products Used: Have 8 year old sony 42". Had some color convergence problems, but was able to fix. Still using this set in bedroom. |

Strength:
Picture is excellent until it develops "flicker" problem. Lots of inputs. Easy to use interface menus.
Weakness:
"Flicker" and Customer Service from Sony. Both are completely unacceptable especially with a $2000 television set. DO NOT buy this television. Your set will develop the "flicker" problem and getting it fixed through Sony will almost certainly be a nightmare. Sony should have and still should recall all of these problem sets and replace them with the newer problem free units. |

Strength:
Great picture for a couple of months
Weakness:
Flicker, red faces, brown golf courses and football fields. Bought this TV last July, after Sears price matched. It looked great for a few months, then.... I noticed over saturation of reds and greens look brown.I have tried using different plugs, unplugging the set, and have used a set up disc, nothing seems to help. The problem gets worse after an hour of turning the set on. Sears is coming out again this week end. I hope to get this problem fixed or get a new set. If anyone has a cure please let me know. william.ake@hs.utc.com Similar Products Used: none, guess that I should have bought the Toshiba. |
