Great picture when it works. WHEN IT WORKS !
Weakness:
It has a lovely green flickering picture. Horrible tech support. (does Sony really care about their customers?) I bought this TV because I knew that the new model Sony TVs where coming out and it was on sale at Circuit City. What a mistake !! I bought this TV on July 30, 2002. It has a build date of May 2002. I have the same flickering problem which started in early october. I have the new SAT-HD200 hooked up to it and when it works it has a fantastic picture. WHEN IT WORKS ! It's been "fixed" once. NOT ! So now I am waiting for the repair service to come and do Sony's pretend repair fix again. I currently own all Sony equipment, but if this doesn't get fixed soon. I'll never buy any of their stuff again. I'm sure Sony isn't to concerned about getting this problem fixed since its an old model now. Similar Products Used: Soon ... anyone but Sony. |

Twin View Channel Index Input on/off & naming auto color sound is good for tv listening
Weakness:
the green flicker! sony has horrible support I bought this TV in May of 2002. It has an excellent picture and it is loaded with features. The twin view and channel index functions are particularly nice. I have it connected to a JVC XVS65 and the progessive scan is beautiful. i don't have satellite tv because I'm afraid of CRT burn. I have had one problem that is much like the others - the green flicker. It looks like the color is fading in at out at first and then it starts to do it rapidly. My tv is currently at the local repair shop being repaired under warranty and it has been there for 2 weeks. Sony claims they don't know about the problem. |

Strength:
Picture quality and setup were a snap. Many hookups give you multiple options. Sound is great for regular TV. Screen is tough, took a good hit from a toddler toy, no mark.
Weakness:
The top is too small for a center channel. But that is all I can come up with. I tried to evaluate all of the brands available for a few months before going with the Sony. I kept finding myself comparing the other brands back to this one and figured it was the one. It has a great picture from multiple angles in a large room, which was one of my key decision points. Have received many complements on the clarity with DirecTV and DVD. Invest in the good fiber cables. Paying for them hurt, but there was an obvious difference. Price has only dropped $155 from when I bought it so I feel I got in at a good time. I feel I am getting my money's worth. I am worried about the flicker that people are talking about but have not seen anything yet after 8 months. Similar Products Used: First projection TV. |

Slim-line and attractive. Easy to navigate on-screen menu. Sound.
Weakness:
Only a few months old and experiencing problems. May be a little too slim-line, not much room for a center channel. I purchased this set in June of this year (2002) and it's now October and it has a case of the "green flickers" as previously mentioned in several other reviews. Going to get the service tech out here to have it corrected and see what happens from there. I've been overall satisfied with it so far although I do believe there are better projection screens on the market. If problem persists I will trade it for a larger one of a different name brand. Had I known of this website prior to my purchase, it may have influenced me to shop around for a better product. Every component I own from speakers to DVD player and reciever is Sony and I have yet to have any problems with them, so hopefully this is just a simple recall which can be easily remedied. Will post an update later and let everyone know how things turned out. Thanx! Similar Products Used: None so far. |

good pic
Weakness:
service related problem Follow up- I have had this set since July. I went to Hawaii on business from late july until end of sept. It packed it in after 3 weeks. I have had a certified Tech examine it. There is currently a sony sevice bulliton on this unit. The pic will start to flicker like the person below. Then it will go green. There is a defect. The sevice bullitin is like a car recall. |

Great picture when it works. Nice design.
Weakness:
Horrible tech support. Early 2002 builds known to flicker. This TV does not need hours of tunning but you would be wise to get video essentials or avia to get the best picture. DVD's on component video are total out of this world. The sound from the TV is average. I had this TV for about 3 months when it suddenly started flickering. From what I have read this model is suspect to flicker issues. Get the newer model if you really want a Sony, others stay away. |

Strength:
One of the smallest "big screen" HDTV ready sets I researched. Sony makes a great product. Well written manual, yet not very technical. This set is unforgiving of a poor cable signal & will motivate you to either upgrade to a true digital signal or become an avid DVD collector. -LOL- Perfect set to place into a wall cabinet.
Weakness:
As many owners have already commented, the top of the unit can't be used for a center channel speaker. However, it's a minor issue & I've placed my McIntosh H-4 speaker on a 12" stand in front of the set. Works just fine! -smile- Can't really find any issues to comment negatively about. -shoulder shrug- ...For the viewer on a budget, this is the set to purchase! This wall hugging unit has stylish lines along with its modest price. By reading the manual included with the set, researching "break-in" tips like turning down the contrast & brightness, as well as using different formats & screen sizes, one can EASILY avoid "burn-in" damage to the CRT's & screen. I must have read about this issue a couple dozen times on different audio/video forums long before buying this beauty! All rear view projector sets are vunerable to this issue & aren't covered under the waranty. Kinda like breaking in a car; be gentle & it will probably last longer than you want it to without any major problems. My taste leaned toward the 57" HDTV tuner model but my viewing area wasn't large enough. Plasma sets are still my dream machine. I needed a totally new viewing format to motivate me to purchase a complete McIntosh sound system to compliment Sony's crystal clear picture. Well worth every dime spent. Similar Products Used: This is my first HDTV. I've only owned two other Sony sets in 30 years; gave the 21" to my "ex" and the 27" to a widow neighbor who lost her set in a fire... |

I am totally dissapointed with Sony that somethjing like this could happen to my still new television
Weakness:
I will never buy another sony product for the rest of my life. Hi folks I'm back.. just to let you know the warranty does not cover this problem of the "burned in" sattelte menu. So it looks like it is going to cost me $2000 dollars to fix. |

Strength:
The clarity of picture is fabulous especially when vieweing a DVD. Awesome theatrical sound. Obviously sony knows what they're doing when it comes to sound. I don't yet have a surround system but i don't need one either.. way to go guys.
Weakness:
After 9 months of use my sattelite menu has left a permanent "burn in" pattern into the picture and the sales person suggested that I do get sattelite tv for better picture quality. I am still awaiting a warranty service person to drop by and tell me if this will be replaced or repaired under warranty. I will know hopefully this week if this is covered. If it isn't I am going to be ultra mad as heck and I will let you all know. I'm going to pray that I haven't spent allmost $5000 canadian to enjoy only 9 months of usage. I have allways been a SONY enthusist.. Allmost everything I own is a sony. When I first purchased it I seemed to have more company visiting than normal. The word got around that about how nice of a TV I had. What a way to impress people to say the least. Looking at the screen from head-on you would swear that you are looking at a flat screen. |

Strength:
I really like the twin picture. The picture is great within the viewing range.
Weakness:
Viewing range. When I was looking for a wide screen HDTV I was attracted to the SONY brand. Sony has a great reputation in the electronic area. I had compare the Sony to the Hitatchi, but the delay with the Hitatchi tuner turned me off. Ever since my wide screen was delivered I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The picture is awesome. I would recommend this TV. |
