None in TV, for the price they could have added a Pronto or added multifunction MACROS to the remote for multiple device setups (for example): 1) Set TV Input 2) Set Pic Size 3) Turn HT ON and to DVD 4) Turn HT volume to proper setting 5) Turn on DVD 6) Eject DVD tray Wouldn't that be nice?

Since 1999 the wait is over. this is the best big screen out there. Here are the reasons: 1) Absolutely the best picture with an Anti Glare Screen guard built in, even Pioneer Elites don't hve this yet. 2) Major sound output with bass modules that compare back to those old console stereo woofers from the '70's. It can be used as a center channel via a RCA connection (need a receiver that has a pre-amp output for Center Channel) 3) Theater Wide modes that do the best stretch modes on the market. 4) One of the best line doublers on the market built in. I have a Toshiba DVD that can switch between Interlaced and Progressive, they are really close. If the input is interlaced the line doubler does a fantastic job. 5) Bells and Whistles that actually do something or you can just turn them off and play with it yourself. 6) Price to performance, to get a set this good from any other vendor you'd have to get the Pioneer Elite and install it into a black backdrop room (to counter the glossy screen guard). It's almost twice the cost.

I have only had this TV for a couple of days... Perhaps it's too early to give it a full review; but, I am extremely happy with it so far. This is after I returned a Sony set (57HW40) that was an absolute waste of my time... The picture on this set is so much sharper and brighter than Sony! It has a very pleasing picture. Easy to set; straight out of the box! The line doubler is unbelivable and produces such a crisp picture... I also like the Automatic Light Sensor that adjust the contrast depending on room light condition. Very easy to operate!

I spent over a year looking at big screen tv's and I wanted to make sure I was getting the most bang for the buck. I was looking pretty hard at either the Mitubishi or the Pioneer Elite untill the salesman show me the toshiba sitting next to them. The picture on this television was just as good or better on the HD source this television's picture was easily as good as the Pioneer Elite costing 1000's more. The menu is user friendly and I found their to be plenty of inputs for my needs. The sound is good for built in speakers, even though I go though my reciever. This is by far the best value in HD ready television on the market today!!!

Picture is unbelievable using HD sources. Onboard sound is far beyond what I could have hoped for. The remote control is easy to use and just makes sense where other remotes are bulky and senseless.

The only weaknesses are having to watch tv at friends' houses with their 29" sets. ;)

I have to confess I don't know a whole lot about big screens other than I hated viewing the older projection big screens unless I was at a perfect angle. The reason I bought the 57HX81 was actually because it was the biggest and most expensive in the store. No really, it had the best picture and I've been wanting a HDTV Wide Screen TV what seems like forever. It was pretty much perfect right out of the box and took very little tweaking to get an unreal picture. I have to say I'm actually quite impressed with the onboard stereo system on this thing. It actually goes up to a decent volume without too much distortion or noise. That's something I didn't expect from a big screen like this. I'd love to be able to get into the techno-babble like the previous reviewers but I can honestly say that they are all miles ahead of me when it comes to this stuff. All I can contribute is that the picture is unreal and when using a progressive scan DVD player the picture really is THAT GOOD. What a beautiful thing it was/is to be watching the NHL playoffs on such an amazing television. I'm in the process of building the surround sound system to accompany my big screen and so far I've picked up the Pioneer Elite VSX-47TX. Only thing left to do is audition some speakers. The dealer is letting me take home a truck load of Nuance speakers to play with. Hope they do the job.

Excellent color rendition. Fantastic line-doubler performance. Really look awesome when properly calibrated. Certainly the best value in term of cost/performance.

A lightier vertical line ( about 1 inch thick ) in the center of the screen only slightly visible on really light scenes ( like hockey ice ) and ghosting at the right of objects when these objects ( or persons ) are dark on a light background. But these little imperfections are really minor and barely noticible and should not ternish all the superbs qualities of this set.

I''ve got this baby since last september. Overall I am really satisfied with it''s performance. The accuracy of colours are the best in the business with Pioneer IMO. The natural feshtone is really good too. The Theaterwide 1 do an incredible good job to show 4:3 material. The internal line-doubler is absolutely fabulous. Light years beyound older generations sets. Actually looking at regular satellite broadcast is surprisingly good. DVD''s are absolutely terrific and filmlike ( I use an interlaced Pioneer Elite DV-09 for DVD playback) and of course High Definition look out of this world. But if you want to get the best from your set, do yourself a favor: hire a ISF calibrator. Mine did a really good job and it made a lot of difference in performance. I mean A LOT!

Picture for wide-enhanced disks, able to tweak aspect for non-anamorphic disks....The color decoder is out of this world for the money as well as the line-doubler. Winner in value category...

I can''t fit the 65" model in my theater, 57 is bigger than I expected.

This is the best in the market for the money EASILY. After 2 years of waiting, watching, and test driving(mitsu, sony hitachi & pioneer) all the sources, i finally got the Toshiba. After a week of use and calibration with Video Essentials test disk, I think the colors are really broken in. The minor red push is gone. This set absolutely rocks. i have to see every one of my 360+ disks all over again.With component video cable, DVD looks fantastic... Listen up, wide modes 1,2 and 3 are especially usefull for tweaking the proper aspect for viewing NON-Anamorphic disks and you can scroll them up or down to center them, also a very handy selection for expanding 4:3 material. Full mode is unbelievable for enhanced widescreen disks.Although I have a full blown surround system, the on board speaker system is excellent. It looks classy, the remote is outstanding like most other toshiba remotes and the picture is great under all conditions. I stole this monitor at $2800, I''da paid more......

I had been gathering information for about a month on rear projection HDTV''s. I went to many review sites (such as this one), forums, and finally went to go audition them myself. Before I went to view some in person, I wanted atleast some kind of idea of what I should be looking at. Based on the praise and complaints I had seen (and price), I narrowed down my search to Toshiba HX. The 57HX81 has some good things going for it. First of all, its line doubler is very good. HDTV''s need line doublers because their natural viewing mode is usually 480p (progressive meaning all 480 horizontal scan lines of an image are displayed at the same time). VHS, directv, and other standard definition devices send out video in whats called 480 interlaced (half of the horizontal lines are displayed for half of a second and the other half are displayed for the second half of a second). In order for the TV to display such sources correctly, it needs to "double" the lines, or display all lines at once. Different brands have different quality doublers. Pioneer Elite tv''s have the best I''ve seen, Toshiba HX have good ones as well. Mitsubishi''s arent that great (atleast the ones I''ve seen). You''ll want a TV with a good line doubler, unless you''re watching DVD''s from a progressive scan DVD player, or HDTV all the time. Unless your viewing room can be made completely black, a TV that doesn''t have a lot of glare or reflections on the screen is ideal. The Toshiba HX''s have an anti-reflective screen and I have to say it works very well. 9 point convergence (alignment between the red, green and blue color guns) is easy to setup and holds well. There are four different picture settings, however only one can be modified. The HX''s have a light sensor in them that can adjust picuture settings according to amount of light in the room, however I dont care for it much because it often sets it too bright or too dark. So it stays off on my 57HX81. HD picture quality is very crisp and has good color. Yes, HD really is "all that". If only there were more channels available... This TV also features 5 picture stretch modes for 4:3 picture. The first is "normal" which will leave the source in its correct proportions, but puts grey bars on the sides. The second, third, and fourth are different modes which stretch the sides and tops more than the middle, so the center of the screen d

This projection set is my second--the first one was a Pioneer 50" front projection set that I purchased in 1981 for $1,750. This set was a bargain at @ $2,650. The other choice was the 57" Sony that recently was released for sale. I''ve not been sorry for choosing the Toshiba for these reasons--Toshiba''s price was about $400 lower; Toshiba HX series have an anti-reflective screen, Sony Does not; and the ALS (automatic light sensor) keeps the picture at the correct brightness and contrast with varying room light levels-can be easily disabled if you want. This Toshiba worked great right out of the box. Convergence so far is very close using the "normal" nine point manual convergence. My program sources are Digital Cable, Direct TV, Pioneer Laser Disc Player, and Progressive-Scan Pioneer DVD player. No HD sources yet, but picture quality on DVD and Laser Discs is outstanding. If you want a good RPTV for non HD sources, this one is ideal. I can''t wait to get the Direct TV HD satellite box for over the air and satellite channels soon to come. The choice of four different Theatrewide modes to stretch a 4:3 source to 16:9 is very useful. The "Theatrewide I" mode works best for me. On 16:9 DVD''s the "Full" picture mode works best. The onboard speakers are easily usable as the center channel in your sound system if you wish. I use two Infinity Quantum II speakers for the front channels with the TV speakers for the center. ARLST II''s are the surround speakers, and a single AR3a is the rear surround, all driven by a Pioneer VSX-D810S Receiver. The DTS ES 6.1 discrete channels are awesome when you are lucky enough to have ES DVD''s! Buy the biggest Toshiba HX series that will work in your room. You will not be sorry!
