Great picture

None Wow lucky me. My daughter won our Toshiba TN55X81 in a church raffle. In 5 years we have had no trouble. Hook up was challenging with Surround Sound, Cable, DVD Player, and VCR but succesful. I am getting ready to go digital, finally, with a cable set top converter. I was waiting to purchase a set top converter when a young salesperson at my nearby appliance store informed me that I could get the same quality picture from our cable company. I can hardly wait to see a digital picture. I would reccomend this set to anyone. I havent had a bit of trouble with it. DVD Picture is gorgeous. In our small 10x 12 living room This size set just blows you away. |

nothing so far This RPTV is probably the best on the market right now overall. I think it has a much better picture than the sony RPTVs which are alot more money. I dont understand how people can put down this TV they probably dont have it properly calibrated. If you want a big screen go buy this one now its the best RPTV for the best price. |

Too new! Repair shops don't even have manuals on these yet. Toshiba seems to have uninformed customer service reps when I called on a question. I also Emailed them and got a form letter reply. I purchased several months ago from a local retailer. Seattle has a couple of overpriced audio/video retailers so I was surprised to find one that would match One Call and other online retailers at 2150. Similar Products Used: None |

Crystal Clear picture from colorstream hd input, nice menu layout. Excellent price for HDTV ready set. Ample variety of inputs I just recieved this set and am amazed with the quality from a sd-5109 through progressive component ins. The key to rear projection televisions is proper calibration. The owner of Next Big Thing (Mississauga, Ontario) was nice enough to burn in the set and calibrate it using the Avia test disc, from the first time I turned the set on I have been awestruck be the clarity of the set. If I turn the color cal. to the default factory settings, the set looks terrible, I can not stress the importance of proper calibration. I would recommend this set to everyone, and if you are demo'ing it at a store ask the salesperson if the set has been calibrated (not just color settings, but from within the service menu)before passing on this one. Low Price HDTV Ready, Brandsmart sawgrass mills Florida, See Melvin $2,200. In Stock
Weakness:
Picture looks dull and blurred. DVD looked like a poor VHS tape. Tuner is Slow, Progressive Scan Makes Everything look like crap. I got a Magnavox 9p5540c from Sears on a pricematch for $1598. It's a very nice 55" set for the money. I am sitting only 9 feet so I notice scanlines. I figured for $600 more lets go with HDTV Ready so Went down to the store to demo the unit. They play A Bugs Life on all there TVs All the sets look clear with that as a source. So I got them to hook a DVD Toshiba to the set and pop in the matrix. It looked like a bad VHS tape or ghosted cable picture. The Progressive Scan Turns Sharp pictures into SOFT and colorless crap. The build quility is also poor as i notices almost all the toshiba tv's had lose screens. I realy wanted this tv from the reviews I read but found it to be a real disapointment. Strength:
Great pictures w/ great sources
Weakness:
Line doubling of mediocre source makes it even worse After doing extensive tweakings to my Toshiba, I've indicated the strengths and weaknesses as above. I wish I have to ability to turn on/off the internal line double - and also have the ability to squeeze 16x9 source for anamorphic DVDs. I did have a chance to watch HDTV source on this model at a dealer - EXCELLENT (almost as 3D as one can get). The only other HDTV with more 3D than this Toshiba was the Sony 34" direct view for $6499! Similar Products Used: Sony RPTV (non-HDTV) |

My TN55X81 was delivered on Friday. I have watched a half dozen DVD's on it and have found the picture to be stunning. I don't know how many times I've turned to the person next to me and commented how it looks like watching film in a theater. It's my first RPTV, so my experience is based on comparing it to my 15-year-old 27" Trinitron (which was adjusted with VE and Avia, BTW). |
