Strength:

Vivid colors, high contrast, no trailing effects. Simple, clean aesthetics. Price (relative to other plasmas).

Weakness:

Aesthetics of the cables.

I have the TH-37PWD6UY commercial model. Difference: simple black frame rather than cheesy 90's style silver, no internal tuner (use your VCR or source box). Sorting out what model and technology to buy can be frustrating, and there is very little online that's helpful. You will likely find no joy talking to pubescent sales clerks who know very little about the product (of course, there are exceptions), and to your great frustration you will often find the plasmas displayed look poor because of cabling/source material. I've searched for the right model for very near two years before plunging in. If you are obsessive compulsive you can be a bit concerned about burn-in. I initially leaned toward buying the Sony KLV900 30" @ $2K more, mainly b/c of burn-in and higher resolution (1024x768 vs. 853x480). Here's my take: if your priority is DVD source and not HDTV, the 853x480 resolution is well mated to the resolution of DVD. Also, there is less to worry about burn-in if computer images or stock tickers are not displayed. That said, I have not seen this machine down convert HDTV source material. Further, plasma screens have glass surfaces, while most LCD screens do not. The glass can produce glare in a bright room. On to the t.v.: this baby was born to display anime and other animated material. Don't believe me? Rent (or better yet buy) Fooly Cooly on DVD, pop it in a progressive scan DVD player (properly connected with component cables)and your eyes will pop at the colors that burst from the screen. Vivid. Saturated. Beautiful. The images seem to pulse like ripe fruit (o.k., I'm not a poet). The contrast is spectacular, far superior to LCD. Honestly, you will cry. Watching anime is like looking at a high quality graphic novel or comic book. Fast moving images show no signs of trailing effects and motion is crisp and unblurred. Movies look amazingly cinematic and it's a pleasure to watch the defects in the print from which a DVD is digitized, like sitting in the theater and watching the film roll. I was concerned about the cell size and being able to visually see the honey-comb matrix dividing the cells, but once this machine is singing, there is no distraction. Aesthetically, a room is freed up nicely with the set hung from the wall. Cables can be a bit intrusive on the visuals, hanging down as they do from the TV, but the good outweighs the bad. I feel your pain if you're out there trying to figure out what to buy, when to buy, what technology to buy. I like to think I'm very discriminating and hard to please, but I must say I'm very happy with this choice, especially with the money saved over LCD or HDTV resolution. The model may be hard to find in a retail setting. There are a few online dealers that I've had good luck with: Etronics.com and Plasmadepot.com have worked out in my experience (I have a few bones to pick with the delivery, but it's there carrier's responsibility). Plus, buying online you will avoid sales tax, which will be at least a hundred bucks more than shipping.
