Strength:
Image, detail, black levels, no artifacts, dependable operation.
Weakness:
None I auditioned various CRT projectors before going with the 933. The Runco 933 is the same as the 930, but with an outboard line tripler/video processor. With CRT projectors, the larger the guns the better. With 8" guns, the 933 was a nice compromise between the top-of-the-line 990 and the smaller 7" CRT models from various manufacturers. With the growing popularity of DLPs, you don’t see many 8” CRT models on the market these days. Without complete or near blackout conditions, a CRT may not the best choice. However, with a darkened room, CRT still is the highest quality image you can buy. Black levels are excellent, as are the reproduction of whites and colors. I’m shopping for a DLP for another theater, but nothing approaches the detail and clarity of the Runco 933. Runco is a great company and has stood behind its product and answered numerous questions -- before and after the sale. I fire the 933 onto a 100-inch diagonal Stewart screen. My system is powered by the Proceed AMP5 and AVP, with Kef speakers all the way around, and a Velodyne HGS18 sub. I've had no problems with my projector. It does require convergence and touch-up from time-to-time, but that’s to be expected with a CRT. A knowledgeable installer (and one who really knows CRTs) is very important. If you’re in California, there’s no better than Robert Taylor. He makes the projector sing. Similar Products Used: Compared with Sony, Marantz,Sharp before buying the 933. |
