I bought JVC-AVD202 for playing XBOX. There are 2 things I don''t like on this product. First, the annoying hissing sound, it''s noisy. Second, I noticed when watching NBA games, the players'' faces are somewhat darker(Of course, they are black) compared to my Sony 36" XBR TV. Overall, it''s A OK.

Strength:

Component Video (obviously), Reduced Curvature Screen, 700
lines of resolution, great price

Weakness:

As has been said by almost everyone, trying to get the settings just right.

Pretty much said it all above. Excellent TV for the price. Component Video inputs, great picture quality if you can get the color settings right. I love the fact that the Screen isn't as round as alot of the TV's out there. Although not flat screen it's pretty close. I love mine. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Very satisfied.

Strength:

Great picture and excellent color; many av inputs & s-video

Weakness:

glare off the screen is real bad

I have had this tv for about 3 days. I has an excellent picture and color. I don't know about its sound as I am using it as a monitor only running it through my Marantz SR7000 receiver. The thing I really don't like about this tv is the way the glass reflects light from all parts of the room. Its hard to watch during the day. At night if you keep the lights down low its ok. My older JVC doesn't have this problem. There is something about the way the glass is made that picks up these reflections.

Wow! I can't belive this set. Recently received an entry-level DVD player (Toshiba SD-2109) and this set. Ungodly good picture for the price I paid (under $400), especially when using the component video inputs. When I view DVD's (Matrix, Eagles Hell Freezes Over, Blade Runner, Sarah McLachlan concert) I am amazed at the resolution. I don't know if one could get better quality for the money. Even my wife (who wasn't all that excited by the purchase of a new TV) was impressed.

One of my purchase criterion was component video inputs and this was easily the highest quality set with component video for the money.

I know there are better sets out there, but the quality for the money makes this a 5.

Like one of the reviewers below, I noted that this set was the same as theD500, except without PIP, which I didn't want.

I can't comment on the tuner, as I am using cable exclusively.

Highly recommended.

Strength:

Component video in, s-video

Weakness:

Some redness even when color calibrated, slight glare present

Overall, this tv looks great when the component-in is used to watch dvd's. Some of the Sony's look good as well, but this tv is the best bang for the buck ratio I've seen yet. Best tv bar none under $400. I also looked at the Panasonics, Toshibas but their sound seems no where near this tv (although I don't even use the jvc's speakers). I would however like to see a variable lighted remote (listen manufacturers), but the mote itself is well laid out. I wish this baby was progressive scan compatible. I'd easily shed 200 more bucks for that feature.

Be carefull the 27d202 replaces the 27d201 and the 27d200 and the features are not the same. The resolution is now 600 compared to 700 and the audio went down also from 5 watts to 1,2 watts. The 27d202 is the newest model . It looks exactly the same but it is not.

Weakness:

Hyperscan

Finally, a place where I can vent my frustration with that damn hyperscan "feature". What the hell was JVC thinking?? "We'll build a fantastic TV, but, just for giggles, let's make it impossible to change the channel!!" Someone could make a lot of money by selling a remote that did not include this feature. For those of you who don't know what it is (I didn't even know it had a name until I saw this page), hyperscan means that whenever you hold down the channel + or - keys on the remote for more than 1/2 a second, the TV skips about three or four channels. Considering I only have ten channels, this just sucks. On the upside, though, I use this TV as a low-end computer monitor and watch DVDs on it that look fantastic. If I hadn't found this great TV, I probably would have just foregone a TV and bought a 19" monitor instead. I'm glad I didn't.

Strength:

1st the picture is really great. 2nd the sound is great. I really like the inputs on the back. I can hook up my whole entire entertainment center with this TV. When I had a sharp I couldn't do that at all. Great TV!

Weakness:

Glare and hyperscan. not a big fan of hyperscan. But once you dial it in with the settings of the inside of the home. you'll be very happy.

If your buying a new TV this is one company you may want to look to. JVC makes nice products. This TV's are great and very affordable. I paid around $400 for this TV. Looked at Sharps Sonys and Panasonics. Ended up with a great TV. At a great value. Very affordable I might say.

Strength:

VALUE!!! Excellent set, and the price clinches the deal. Amazing picture for the price and component video.

Weakness:

A lot of tweaking to get the picture right. Some glare. Hyperscan is a pain.

I was originally going to wait for the Wega 32XBR400, but considering the horrible cable quality where I live, how fast prices are dropping on HDTVs and Digital-Ready TVs and the pending rollout of broadband, I chose to wait a year or two.

This is the ultimate set for my purposes. I needed a good set to tide me over until I'm ready to go to an HDTV set but had the connections and picture quality I wanted. For $300 (onecall.com), you cannot beat it. The picture quality is excellent, although the glare can be rough. I thought it would be less with its flatter screen, but that's not the case.

DVD's look incredible. After 2+ months, I still cannot believe that this set is $300. It was a pain to get the picture correctly. I tested the picture using the Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, and Austin Powers: Intl Man of Mystery. The Matrix had a horrid green tint, and I had to turn the tint WAY down, but that took care of it. Saving... looked great from the start. Austin Powers had me changing the color setting, but then it was all good from there. On some DVDs (ex. 13th Warrior), though, I notice that the black bars for widescreen format movies are not that crisp and there is also a very slight moire problem, again, depending on the movie.

The sound is top-notch. Hyperscan sucks.

In short, for $300 or so, you just can't beat this set. The picture is very good, and you have to spend A LOT more to get a TV of this quality with all the features.
