Strength:

Great Picture, reasonable price, simple remote and Guide+

I shopped around for several weeks comparing pictures, prices and features. I narrowed my choices down to the JVC, Panasonic Superflat and Hitachi. Since I was replacing a 12 year old Hitachi, I was somewhat predisposed to purchasing a Hitachi once again, however I just couldn't get the price/performance/features on the Hitachi that I could with the JVC. I'm still impressed with the picture quality on this set and although I was initially skeptical about the usefulness of the Guide+ feature, I really depend on it now. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone looking for a good overall value in a 32 inch set.

Strength:

Cystal clear screen, easy to setup, remote is fantastic.

Weakness:

Heavy get a friend to help you lift it up on it's stand!

This has got to be the best TV I have ever owned. Now everyone comes over to my place to watch movies. It has component video ports which is what you absolutly must have if your getting or already have a dvd player. The rmeote is easy to use and the screen is nice a crisp. Lots of options with this unit too. This TV also has gotten some of the highest rating I have seen on other sites as well is in a lot of different magazine reviews. Go get one!!!

Strength:

component input at a good price ($800 in Jan '00)

Weakness:

Picture quality :(

I set out buying a 32" TV last december and I was pretty adamant about the component input option. Finally I had to decide between the JVC and the SONY with the Flat Display (a Wega model). The SONY cost $400 more and there were numerous complaints by reviewers in this site about defective products.

I still have not purchased a DVD and I use the TV with cable and a JVC S-VHS VCR (7600?). I am not satisfied by the color of the shadows on persons' faces in closeups. The shadow gets an unnatural greenish/grayish hue. I was not able to eliminate that by tweaking the video controls. Also, the picture in letterbox format looks rotated by a couple of degrees with respect to the horizontal.

I hope that if I call JVC tech support they will be able to address these issues. If you have any insight with respect to these problems, pls email me.

Strength:

Great looks

Weakness:

Red stands out

I wanted to get a 32 incher because my home theater room isn't too big (20x12)and budget constraints. I was comparing this set to a Toshiba @ the same price. I like the way the JVC handled the blacks better. It seemed to do better with things like gray and dark brown suits and hair. There seemed to be more detail. Features were unimportant to me like the channel guide and crap. I was interested in mainly the in's and out's, which this tv has plenty.
So far I have everything going in through the s-video. I think my picture is pretty good. I haven't got around to getting component video cable so I don't know what that'll do. My reciever is doing switching between my laser disk player and the dvd. My reciever also has video noise reduction so that could be handy. I have all the settings turned way down and can get a pretty natural picture. My only compliant is that the reds (while not vibriant) seem to stand out more that the other colors. It's not annoying unless you think about, it but I would be intrested in finding out if this could be toned down.
I only paid $650.00 for it new so I guess I can't complian too much. And besides my legs were killing me from standing in the store for 2 hours.
