I have a Loewe Calida TV. It's a 1999-2000 model. I would love to know if it is supposed to get the new digital transmissions. I was told its a 'digital TV' but I am not able to receive any stations that are currently broadcasting in digital format.

Strength:
DVD capabilities!!! Amazing picture.
Weakness:
Progressive scanning creating the "ghost" images? I actually sell these sets for a local dealer. The picture quality on my Calida has been astounding in almost all aspects thus far. DVD is amazing. I would note one week area- watch carefully when there is a large amount of action on screen, particularly on dish or cable programming. You will probably notice "ghosts" or trace images behind the action. I'm O.K. with this for now but I'm sure it will get quite annoying. Similar Products Used: Many |

This is by far the best TV set I ever owned or seen anywhere. Picture quality is superb and reliability is perfect. The TV also looks great (mine is blue) and draws attention from anybody who sees it. Attention is changed to amazement when the unit is turned on. Perfect purchase. |

Strength:
Most Accurate and detailed picture I have ever seen.
Weakness:
Poor Customer support...note. Not even an 800 number for customers to call. Terrific product in search of support to go with. For a year and some months this set has done Yeoman service in my project multimedia studio and my Home Theater system. Recently the High Voltage Flyback Transformer failed and this by the way was in June 2002, and now after a month and then some, the part is still not here. This is a common part and not some exotic Processor/proprietary device this set needs. Every set has a Flyback Transformer to make part of the Picture Tube work. Loewe has not supported me, or my Service agency well at all. Time will tell what will happen. I have contacted The Good Guys Corporate office and I must say they have some Great folks there. Thank You, Cherrie for example. So in sum. If you buy this set, be sure that you have a service contract on it, and have some great dealer support behind you or the worst will be norm. I will not recommend this set until Loewe gets their act together. I understand Sensory Science discontinued them. Hmmm, makes me wonder. Will keep everyone informed on this great set that does not work. V.C. Similar Products Used: Sony,Toshiba,Panasonic,JVC. |

Everything!
Weakness:
None at this price This is a follow-up review now that I own a Calida... I am still in awe of this TV!!! This HD ready Calida is truly amazing and is only slightly nudged out by the Aconda as the best TV I have EVER seen. I have seen Proton, PG, Sony, Panny, Zenith, Philips, etc. and none are nearly as good as th4e Loewe. The Loewe gives a beautiful life-like image that is hard to describe. The Loewe really excels at protraying motion in a natural way. After watching the Loewe, watching any other TV is painful as the Loewe gives such a natural look to images that all other TVs seem to lack. In every respect, this TV is the clear winner, and for the price (less than the Sony XBR) it is a bargain as none of the grain and motion artifact seen in Sony is seen in this TV. The best way to characterize this TV is smooth and natural with exceptional detail. Similar Products Used: Too many |

Strength:
Picture quality at its peak, when the TV works...
Weakness:
Reliability ? It is impossible to describe how awesome the picture quality is. Certainly by far the sharpest, clearest set on the market today. It''s like there is a third dimension and you can almost grab what''s in the frame. Incredible. Yet for me that satisfaction was spoiled by the fact that the colours sometimes completely saturate and I had to return the TV three times (different stores) and it still doesn''t work properly. |

Strength:
Hmmm - can''t think of many.
Weakness:
See above comments. Also - when using DSS the quality of the pictures always seems pixelated. I''m surprised at the number of glowing reviews of the Calida. I have had nothing but problems with both of the Calida''s that I purchased in August 2000. When they work, they work marginally. Each TV has it''s own operational issues. The most used TV (on time is about 3 hours/day) loses the picture and sound at least twice a day on it''s best days and quits completely on it''s worst days. The second TV has issues with color and sound when playing a DVD. No matter what a technician does - it simply does not work with DVDs. My experience with German products counters the experience I have had with Loewe TVs. |

Strength:
Everything! Smooth, detailed, lifelike, gives depth to images!!!
Weakness:
NONE! I am in the process of purchasing this TV, so keep that in mind, but I have spent a good 5-10 hours with one drooling over it! This is simply the best Digital HDTV I have ever seen (well the Loewe Aconda is THE best but for over 1000 less, this is a close second). This TV has to be seen to be fully apreciated. I understand that Goodguys on the west coast does not do a good job showing off this TV so I suggest heading to a more "exclusive" store (normally I hate going to such a place) and checking out what this TV can do. I first started off thinking I would end up with a Sony XBR - a decent TV but it performs poorly with broadcast cable as you cannot turn off something called VSM that totally screws things like small text!!!! I laugh as a 2500 dollar Sony cannot even display things like credits, stock prices, etc and yet 200 dollar TV''s can do this much better! In addition, the coating on the TV makes it almost impossible to watch, as there is so much glare from the coating. next I looked at Panasonics, Toshibas, etc and I must say that the new Toshiba 34" 16:9 is a very nice set, but once you see the Loewe, there is still NO comparison!!! The Loewe does everything right - It displays broadcast cable very nicely, very smooth with very legible text and no motion artifacts - It displays movies with such realism that I get goosebumps!!! Never have I seen a TV that gives depth to an image, but with Loewe there is depth!!! I am not kidding, you can see in 3D! I cannot explain it, but go see for yourself. -Images are both detailed yet soft, thus looking very lifelike. I think Sony, Panasonic are detailed and harsh and this is not the way we as humans see things. The Loewe looks natural. -The loewe line doubler is so good that you do not need a progressive scan player - The loewe, although 4:3 has a very snazzy computer that can quickly convert between formats - The loewe is a true digital TV unlike most This is truly the best TV (tube, projection, flatscreen) I have ever seen. It deserves 10 stars Similar Products Used: Sony, Panasonic, Philips, RCA, etc. |
