Remote and DVD picture

This TV is nice.Except with a DVD.When I play a disc I can see the pixels(thousands of tiny dots)on the screen.I originally thought it was the DVD player so I returned it and bought a different brand.Still the same thing.

i bought this tv to replace my 19" sylvania, which i bought long ago. i was looking at either this tv, a sony, or a toshiba. i decided on this one because it was a better value than the other 2, and i haven't been disappointed yet (knock on wood). the menus are pretty easy to wade through, but i wish the remote had more control over my vcr. oh well, nothing is perfect.

Weakness:

Huge red push in color decoding.

Purchased this unit a few weeks back from sears for 360$.
Color felt as good as the Sony's and the screen was darker.

Got the avia calibration dvd and finished the calibration. Avia suggests that the calibration be done after the TV is broken in, but I was in a hurry to get a decent picture and thus this review might be misleading. Anyways, after the color calibration Inoticed that the red was some 25% overemphasized. Had to reduce the red push which automatically underemphasize the blue and green channels too.

Finally. Not a bad set, but I wish the color decoder was more accurate. Might swap this for the more expensive SF series, but again might decide to wait for a HDTV down the line.

The picture through the S-Video connector is very nice except for some ruddy looking characters.

Overall, a very decent TV for the price. Can't go wrong with it unless you are very finicky about having a very accurate color decoder. But again, it seems alll TVs have the red push in some degree.

Strength:

Low price, remote audio output, Great picture (if you have good reception) (the large screen shows how bad my reception is.
Did I say low price.

Weakness:

Sound is scratchy when you have poor reception, remote is not fully compatable with that of my Panasonic VCR purcased at same time. I must juggle remotes. Heavy weight. Collects dust easily.

I purchased this TV for $299 at Wards (Montgomery Ward) when the best price in other stores was $330 (but did not have any in stock), and the stores that did have it in stock wanted $399. Wards is the best place to buy electronic equipment. They carry the same models and brands (including Sony) as Sears, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc, but their sale prices, especially grand openning celebrations are much much cheaper than any one else's sale prices. Also their house brand (Admiral) is dirt cheap and the pictures on those TVs look good. ( Next time I will spend 1/3 less for a house brand Wards TV and take the chance that it will not be as reliable. Hell, I once had a Sony that broke down in less than 5 years, and TVs are not made in Japan any more anyway. I would not be surprised if the house brand is made in the same factory as one of the big name TVs.) Also Wards has all items in stock that are on display and don't try the bait-switch that other stores do. They deliver too. The only problem is that you have to know what you are looking at(read the model numbers on the shelf) and what features each model have because the salesmen know nothing and they have no information besides the features printed on the shelf tag.

Because I don't have cable, my so-so reception shows on the screen because it is so big. With VCR tapes the picture is excellent The speakers are tinny and do not reproduce base well and perform so poor with my reception that I wired the output speakers to an old boom box that is mounted below the TV and get great sound that way. With pre-recored VCR tapes the internal sound is ok. The good thing is that the TV can be programmed to turn off its internal speakers and control the volume coming out of the auxiliary source using the remote.

Since the remote is only partially compatible with that of my Panasonic VCR purchased at the same time I cannot change the channels of the TV using the VCR's remote, though I can change the volume. Also, I cannot program the VCR using the TV's remote. (this should not be if the TV and the VCR are by the same manufacturer)

Also, I wish the TV had a socket (as well as VHF and UHF input jacks) on the top so I can plug rabbit ears in. Also, why don't TV/VCR manufactures use a harness (like the trailer hitch wiring harness on my truck)where all input output connections between TVs/VCRs can be hooked with only one plug so there are not so many wires in the back of the equipment. Also, how much will it cost Panasonic to include an Antenna cable in the box (20 cents?). I guess retailers don't want it in the box so they can sell you a $5 cable.

Strength:

Great picture for $300.

Weakness:

Flakey remote and poor built in audio.

This TV had the best picture of any of the dozen 27" units in my price range that Best Buy had on display.

Actually, the picture was pretty bad when I first saw it. Some twit had been playing around in the menu. But after taking a minute to get it setup properly, it looked great. Clear bright colors with dark blacks. Almost as good as a $500 Sony which was also tempting me. Don't recall the model number on the Sony, but $500 was more than I wanted to spend so the Panasonic it was.

Got it home out of the noisy store and discovered the built in speakers weren't too hot. Well, I didn't expect them to be, but these were really awful. If you care at all about sound and plan to use the built in speakers, pick another TV. Luckily, I don't use the built in speakers, so I don't care about this.

Within a few weeks the remote deteriorated to a flakey piece of junk. Needed to smack it on the side of the couch every few minutes. It survived a surprising number of those smacks, even after it started rattling.

But two years later, it hasn't broken and the picture is still great. Happy camper here.

Strength:

Same picture quality as a 27" Sony.

Weakness:

Needs a remote that can fully operate Panasonic DVDs.

Compared side by side with a Sony 27" at Best Buy. The panasonic picture was sharper. The only disadvantage over the Sony is more bubble in the screen but the lower price makes up for that. Remember that cable TV signal quality varies. If you are moving up from a 19" you may be suprised how crappy your signal is. Only way to benchmark TV picture is with a DVD or digital satellite.

I also have the A120 DVD hooked in with an S-video cable. I would like to see the TV remote be able to more completely control the DVD player. I can only do basic control of the DVD.

Menu navigation, picture quality, price.

Weakness:

See below.

The problem I have with this TV isn't image or sound quality. I originally bought a new TV to replace an older Fisher one I had. The reason for replacing the Fisher TV was due to the fact that anytime it was on, I'd hear this really high pitched noise. Unfortunately, I heard it with this TV too. While there are numerous possibilities for the high pitched noise, I don't hear it as much with the Sony that's in the living room- which leads me to believe that it's a problem with the TV.

Granted, my roommate claims that he can't hear the noise, but I've had other friends who could hear it- so apparently it is only detected by sensitive ears.

Regardless, it's a great TV. I just wish that I wasn't so annoyed by small details.

Great Picture. Good connections. Remote.

Weakness:

Remote

This is a great TV. I bought it after searching for 27"'s everywhere. I looked at Tv's on end. In finally came down to the Panosonic and it's sony equal. After playing with the picture controls with the matrix I discovered that the black in the panasonic was much deeper. Black and white are the two most important factors on a TV b/c they define the outlines of the characters on the TV. So Panasonic's Panablack won me over. (No Panablack is not BS. We put the sony and the Panasonic side by side) also the sony was $100 more. So the choice was simple.

Video is not important in our house but this is the worst picture we have ever seen. Have a 20" Panasonic in the house that blows it away.
