Strength:
Outstanding picture, extremely flat tube, great looking cabinet. Good remote.
Weakness:
I like the split screen PIP that the 47" has. Some say it is too heavy, I had it professionally moved. I chose this set over the Sony KV36FS17. I saw the two sets side by side and could barely notice and picture difference between the two with the same signal and station. I did notice that the Panny''s colors were a bit more exagerated (Everyone seems to say that). The sony was $50 more, I chose the Panny - I liked the cabinet better (speakers on the sides reather than the bottom and the color of the cabinet matched the stand I already had. If I did not have a stand, I may have taken the Sony. I really like the remote (better than the sony I had previously, same remote as the KV36FS17). I previously had the Panny 47" widescreen, which I returned for the 36". RPTV was too big for my apartment and exagerated the non-HD signal flaws. Strength:
Superb sound with BASS, excellent picture quality with DVD component inputs.
Weakness:
Geometry problems out of the box, cable input can look real bad on some channels, whites could be whiter, HEAVY, HEAVY, HEAVY. Bought this TV at BB after returning a 36" Toshiba non-flat screen. The color on the Toshiba was great, but the screen was so bubbled that games and graphics (ESPN) looked horrible. I decide to get a flat screen. Bought this Panasonic for $500 more. After setup, I noticed that the geometry was off. When watching any type of program with horizontal lines or a letterbox movie, the lines were not straight. In letterbox format, the top black bar was wider at one edge than the other. I thought I could adjust this, but after 2 days no avail. I did buy the $100 service plan, and the TV is so heavy and difficult to move, I had it picked up to be repaired. The service place said 3 days. Well, after 10 days I got the set back and it looked the same. Took it back to Best Buy and got a brand new one. New set is fine with regards to geometry. As for picture, you have to crank the color setting way down because the set is very red, which sometimes makes programs look a little blue. Whites are not as good and bright as the Wega''s. Component video input looks awesome. |

Strength:
Picture, look of cabinet and sound
Weakness:
Remote, Front on/off button is at perfect height for kids to press. Had the TV about 2 weeks and so far I am very impressed. DVD''s using component connections look fantastic. The satellite picture also is very good. Adjustments are pretty easy to make. Get it delivered if possible because as you probably know by now, it is very heavy. |

Strength:
nice picture
Weakness:
poor calibration from factory Overall, this is a nice set. Unfortunately the set that I bought had a poor setup from the factory and when viewing in letterbox mode the horizontal black bars were not the same thickness across the screen. I think it was a tilt adjustment, but after a frustrating round of dealing with Best Buy and Panasonic to resolve the problem I had a service guy look at the tv to see if it could be adjusted in my home. The tech said he had to take the set to the shop to fix it. I didn''t feel a brand new set should have to taken to a shop to make it right, so I decided to try and get an exchange. Best Buy (won''t be dealing with this company anymore) didn''t have one to exchange so I decided to get a different brand. This would have been a nice set if it had been setup properly at the factory and probably would have given 5''s if not for all the hassle with Best Buy and Panasonic. Strength:
GREAT PICTURE (thats what matters when buying a TV right?), Nicer looking, smaller cabinet than Sony Vega, Better price than Sony or Toshiba 36" Direct view flat screens.
Weakness:
Blacks are BLACK- maybe too much so- but this is minor, could have better adjustment ranges. OK here is the REAL DEAL on 32-36" direct view TV's. 12 months ago, my new house was finished and I bought what I thought was the best HD ready TV for the money- the Panasonic CT-32HX40. Cabinet looked neat in the living room, price was good, excellent feature set- the only 2 problems- 1> Bought it over the Internet (DONT buy a major TV over the internet-warranty issues are next to impossible to resolve) and 2> THE PICTURE SUCKED. For High Def signals, the Panasonic "HX" series is fantastic- but for regular digital cable and DirecTV, it is the worst blocky, pixellated picture that you will ever see. Even go to Best Buy or Circuit City and see the "canned" videos that they have- you will see that this is true. I called Panasonic and they confirmed that there is nothing that you can do about this- except get high def signal, which is not a reality right now. Similar Products Used: Panasonic CT-32HX40 |

Strength:
slim cabinet design, blackest blacks, brilliant picture
Weakness:
weight, ugly remote i am so glad to say that i have finally found a tv that im satisfied with. i originally bought a sony wega, but took it back b/c of a crt missallignment, then i got a new sony, but had to take it back b/c the brightness level differed on the very top when watching letttrerbox dvd's. so i got a toshiba instead, but the toshiba bent the bottom of the letterbox dvd into an arc, so i finally got the panasonic. shoud have done this in the first place. while i think the sony has better picture, its onlty better picture for watching network television. sony's have poor Qc IMO, the panasonic, is by far the best picture for dvd. the set has the blackest blacks i have ever seen, high contrast. you will not be dissapointed, but you will need a freind to help you set it up, it must weigh at least 200lbs. Strength:
gorgeous picture, superb dvd resolution
Weakness:
makes my cable system look bad! I hunted around for 3 months looking for a set. I was really wanting a HD remote projection unit but the cost is way too prohibitive, and it's really like getting a color set in 1966 - not much to watch, there. Similar Products Used: rca 35" |

Strength:
Pure flat tube wtih fantastic color reproduction and clarity.Best picture I have seen in a tube tv.
Weakness:
None. This set is perfect in every way. I searched for about a month comparing sets in stores.I had the Toshiba,Sony, and Panasonic flat screen tv's side by side. The Toshiba didn't compare to the Sony and the Panasonic. The Sony was a close second, but the Panasonic had deeper colors and the sound on the Panasonic is much better than the Sony.I am a huge Sony fan, but the Panasonic is the best 36" tv you can buy.Definetly spend the extra money and get the flat screen, you will not be sorry.
