I thought it was a great t.v. at first, but only 2 years after the purchase the t.v. broke and needed to be repaired - I waited over a month for the part from the company!

Strength:

Covered above.

Weakness:

The owner's manual can be a little clearer and more inclusive.

As I said in my earlier review, I ran out of room for my review of this TV. And I decided to wait a little while to add to my review. All I can say is, I am still as impressed overall with this TV as I was when I submitted my last review. I saw how a lot of stereo TV's have a/v input jacks in the front. The problem I have had and seen with those is, in connecting a video game or camcorder, not only are wires blocking the screen. But also, with the video games, so are the viewers. That is not the problem with this set since it has side input jacks instead of front. I applaud Philips Magnavox for that! I also have connected a Philips Magnavox VCR(VR621CAT) to it. It has only complimented this set! I also use an indoor antenna for the local channels I do not get on digital satellite. It is connected to a separate RF connector in the rear. It is not only to pull in the other local channels. But it also helps me to be able to use its P.I.P. And I can swap between which is on the main screen and which is in one of the 4 corners any time by simply using my universal remote. Speaking of its universal remote, it has what Philips calls an M-Link Infrared version. I can set it to operate any source connected to it that uses a remote. It includes my VCR and satellite receiver. It is easier to set up than most universal remotes. It is one thing very well covered in my owner's manual. In fact, Philips even provides a separate manual just for setting up and using this feature. One thing not covered in my owner's manual I have been able to use are its standard and expanded 4:3 formats, as well as its compressed 16:9 format. Due to its excellent ratings, picture, sound, strength, ease of use and features, this is one set I can not recommend enough!

Strength:

Crisp, clear 3-dimensional picture, excellent high fidelity stereo sound and all its features and connections.

Weakness:

Weight, although normal for its category due to its strength. Also owner's manual not clear and inclusive enough.

Like Kevin, I am very impressed and happy with the clear, sharp 3-dimensional picture helped by its digital comb filter, its excellent high fidelity stereo surround sound and all its features and connections. I am also impressed at its 4:3 and 16:9 format. Both that and its 3-dimensional picture could be better covered both in my manual and on their web site. I like having 3 sets of A/V input jacks, 2 S-video input jacks, 1 headphone jack, 1 set of A/V output jacks and left and right rear surround speaker terminals, as well as its 2 built-in 5-watt speakers(total of 10 watts). As Kevin hit on, my 32PT81S has not been plagued by any of the geometrical or sound problems that has other real flat screen TV's in the same category. Since I have digital satellite that does not yet get all the local channels, I also like having 2 RF connectors for a separate antenna to be able to watch the other local channels and the twin-tuner PIP so I can choose on its remote which source I want to see more clearly and listen to. I also love its solid cabinet compared to the weak, flexible plastic cabinets used with some TV's yet. It means it is a little heavier. But it is normal for its category for now. Before I forget, its model year is 2002. I could say more. But I am out of room. What I can say is, it is a TV I highly recommend checking into.

Strength:

Picture Format(16:9,Zoom 4:3), Depth of Color, A/V Inputs & Outputs

Weakness:

Owners Manual

I can't recommend this set enough. Best features and picture quality at this price level (sub $1000). Haven't noticed any geometery problems that plague other flat screen sets. The set has 3 A/V inputs + component input and 1 A/V output which make hooking up to a reciever very easy. The best feature is the "hidden" format (by hidden I point to the fact that it is not mentioned anywhere in the Owners Manual) feature. This allows you to either 'squeeze' the picture to a 16:9 format or expand it using the Zoom 4:3. The 16:9 mode is great because it allows you to take advantage of the anamorphic widescreen DVD's. This is a feature usually reserved for the $1500 + TV's, so I applaud Philips for including it. All in all, it is everything that I wanted in a non HDTV/Widescreen TV.
