Strength:

Price

Weakness:

Too many features that do not work. Fastest clock, control remote. Buzzing noise. Low picture and sound quality.

25TS56C model. Smart series? Why you want sound options if speakers cannot deliver? You may attached external speakers yet this TV does not deliver. Picture options again if sometimes is blurry, too dark, or sharp picture cannot be achieved why you want smart picture?
Low range and narrowed angle remote control, must move my arm up, down, left or right to make TV receive the signal. Also, TV does not pick up remote control signal mostly, sometimes I see red led blink but TV would not accept the command.
Clock! I must adjust TV's clock every other week, otherwise it would be several hours ahead! This guy is real fast.

Lately, companies think of quality as zero defects and operable products when quality actually means products that deliver, happy costumers, low costumer complaints and returns, good products. That is why warranty is almost none or very short, hence retailers offer their own, exchanges are a hasle or there is A 15% RESTOCKING FEE??? Costumer rules no more.

A product may last, but are you happy with it?

Strength:

Compact, good quality picture and
stereo sound make this set a good
value for a small house or apart.

Weakness:

For my use it would be nice if this set had external audio/video
jacks and the S-video input. now
that I am wiser, next time I will
pay a little more and buy the model with these features.
because the remote control is so
small it is easy to hit the power
button and turn the set off when adjusting volume

This tv was purchased in nov '97
for $239 and has been used almost
daily without a single glitch.
it was easy to setup, program channels & operate. regular broadcast channels are recv'd from portland, or using simple
rabbit-ears ant. and picture quality is good. I also have it
connected to my Dishnetwork satellite dish for cable network
channels and sound & picture qual
is very good. the tv is also used
as my monitor for webtv internet
access and works fine for my small living-room. the remote control is a small compact unit and is easy to use. for a midsize
table-top tv this is a good buy.

Strength:

Lots of features like preset tones and preset pictures for movies, sports weak signal etc.

Weakness:

Stopped working after 4 days.

I was quite upset after I broke the dash on my 97' Riviera taking this TV home. It was a great picture with goodd sound. At the store I was assured that this was the best set for under $250. I had no problems with it until four days after I bought it. It stopped working. I called Phillips and they said that It's a common problem adn that I just needed to leave it unplugged for thirty minutes to fix the problem. This didn't help and the set still didn't turn on. Eventually I took it back.

Strength:

Cheap, but you get what you pay for with this one.

Weakness:

That Buzzing sound! Couldn't stand it, took it back. Crooked Picture tube, terrible for dvd and video games

Had high hopes for this one and was totaly let down. Actually a 25TS56C, from Best Buy. Could not stand the high pitched buzzing coming from the box, combined with the very crooked picture tube gave me a tremedous headache and it was promptly returned to best buy.

I was going to exchange for a Samsung for same price but the show room models also had crooked screens.

I'm giving up on best buy as well, too may hastles with their warranty, Circut City has better service at the same prices.

Strength:

Excellent picture for the price, color temperature, picture noise reduction, minor overscan issues.

Weakness:

High-pitched ring, buzzing added in when playing DVDs, fair sound quality / speaker quality.

The Philips Magnavox 25TS56C 25" puts out an excellent picture for the price, and is probably the best TV you can get for under $250. The picture is beautiful, especially when playing video games; I found it hard to believe that I was using AV cables and not S-Video. The color temperature is a really nice feature (the warm setting is my favorite), as is the picture noise reduction. This TV also has minor overscan issues, a definate plus.

The biggest weakness about this TV is that it always has a high-pitched ring regardless of what you are watching. If you play something like a DVD, a loud annoying buzz kicks in. Very intolerable. The good thing is, *most* people are rendered deaf to this type of noise, but there are exceptions; some people can hear higher frequencies than others. Pay close attention at the store prior to buying. So if no buzz or ring bothers you (ex: you can't notice it), by all means, get this TV. So in my personal opinion, this TV gets 3 stars; but if you can't hear the buzzing, 4 stars would make more sense.
