Strength:
picture quality, flexible hook-up options.
Weakness:
buzz from internal speakers i have been very happy with this tv, with one small caveat. i could not get the buzzing sound to stop in the internal speakers. it was a low level sound and could only be heard when their are moments of silence during a program. however, it bothered me enough after 6 months to do something about it. i ended up re-routing the sound to an external pair of speakers(csw-mc200 newton's)powered by an old onkyo 2-channel receiver i had lyin around. by-passing the internal speakers eliminated the buzz, so now i am a happy camper. everything else about this tv is positive. the picture is bright, with vivid color and impressive black level performance. blacks are deep black, and whites are bright white....the way it should be. i have seen many a tv where the black ends up looking more grayish, and the whites have a glare to them. the samsung does not exhibit any of these faults. i picked this model over the similar priced jvc and more expensive sony because the picture to me simply looked better. the jvc seemed to have a hazy, cloudy quality to it, and the sony didn't have as bright a picture as the samsung. the samsung has front a/v inputs which i have used for my old nintendo games. very handy. it also has two inputs in the back and an a/v out as well. i use one of the inputs for dvd and the output is connected to my onkyo receiver. very flexible set-up options for a 20 inch tv. for the money, i couldn't find a 20 inch tv with a better feature set than the samsung. add to that the superior picture quality and the decision was a no-brainer to me. however, be forwarned about the speakers. if you plan to use the set's speakers, watch out for the buzz! i am docking 1 star due to that buzzing noise. |
