Samsung 20 Television TXL2091F Standard Televisions

DESCRIPTION

Samsung introduces a new generation of DynaFlat Analog Televisions. Limited space should not prevent anyone from seeing a great flat screen television image that is also DVD ready. Samsung is a world leader in flat glass tube production from computers to televisions. TXL2091F has virtually no picture distortions from reflections or glare. Samsung has incorporated key electronic visual enhancements. A 3-line digital comb filter sharpens the transitions from one color to the next. DVDs offer outstanding picture quality and look the best when it's connected to the component video input (Y/Pb/Pr connection).

Strength:

VERY sharp picture, much better sounding speakers (if you use them) than others in its class, many controls for picture/sound to tweak it to your likeness, component video, S-video, 16:9 widescreen mode, blacks (screen tones AND case) look great

Weakness:

none so far!

I got such a small screen since grad-school finances necessitated a small apartment (and an even smaller budget!)

I looked at all the 20" flatscreens out there and found this one had the most satisfactory picture, and the price I paid I know I couldn't beat. Color balance is decent in "Normal" mode, although it is surely preferable to you (as it was to me) to set the "Custom" mode to your particular color balance and saturation preferences. The remote is not illuminated, but the more frequently used controls are large and easy to locate in the dark (that's something I've already tried!) I compared the speaker output (and the picture, as I mentioned above) side by side with the Toshiba, the Sony, and the TAU 20" flatscreens and the sound from this was much, much fuller, with better tonal separation between the treble and the bass tones. The artificial surround sound also makes a big difference even with only the two speakers on the sides of the tv.
I do plan to hook this into a high quality A/V receiver eventually, but for now the component video inputs are being fed by my progressive scan DVD player which really shows off the incredible resolution and clarity of this picture.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone on a budget who still wants a quality set-up!

Strength:

Crisp, bright, vibrant picture. S-video AND component. It's black so it matches my other stuff.

Weakness:

No cover for the composite inputs on the front!

This is an excellent tv! The picture is superior to the Wega in every respect. It has loads of connectability. I bought this tv for my room. I have a large family and I was tired of not being able to play my brand new 300 dollar PS2 because someone was using the tv. So I did my research. It was between this, the TAU, and the Toshiba. I found that the Toshiba had a 15% red push and the sound was lacking considerably. The TAU was silver (which I don't like anyway), so it didn't go well with my other stuff. Plus, while at Best Buy I thought this had the better picture anyway. I am VERY happy with my purchase. I feel this is an excellent value for a 20" tv. I would buy it again. My only qualm is that the inputs on the front aren't covered, so it looks a bit funky. Anyone who is looking for a tv for their room (not living room, it is FAR too small for that) and doesn't have loads of money to spend should consider this above all over 20" flat screen tvs.

Strength:

Great picture, easy menus, connectability, price

Weakness:

on/off chime (can be cut off), remote not backlit, delayed on

I bought this Samsung because I have had a good history with the brand. The first TV I had in my room was a Samsung. I have since moved out but my mother still has the tv and it has the best picture in the entire house. the TV was about $100 eight years ago. I bought this tv hecause of 1.) the price undercut Sony and Panasonic flat screens (I've see it on the net from between $240 and $310)2.)my history with Samsung 3.)the set was black, not silver (Panasonic now offers their sets in black). I listed that there is a delay until the set turns on. You know how some sets turn on with a dark picture then it lightens. This one stays black then on pops a perfect picture. It's annoying if you're missing your favorite show and every second counts. I have had no real problems with the tv. If any arise, I will submit an update. I'm very happy with my purchase.
