Strength:

Looks nice.

Weakness:

Poor build quality when it comes to the input circuitry. I won't buy another Samsung product again, sorry folks.

This is a follow up to my first review of my Samsung 14" TV. Initially, I was very pleased with it, but after a month or so, I bought a Samsung combo TV/DVD player. I immediately noticed that upon hooking up the DVD/VCR to the composite inputs, the top and the bottom of the picture were cropped off. I couldn't see the icons for the DVD setups. I fooled around with the DVD player for a couple of weeks, thinking I didn't have the right settings inputted. Finally, I tried the DVD player on another TV, and it worked, just fine. Then I tried a Sony DVD player with the Samsung TV, using the composite inputs, and it was the same thing...the top and bottom inch of the picture was cropped off, and the overall picture was stretched. However, using either DVD player on the component inputs produced a good picture. I've heard from other owners of this TV that have had issues with the inputs of this model TV, ususally the composite inputs than the component inputs. So if you're going to get this model Samsung, make very sure BOTH the composite and component inputs work properly before you throw away the packaging.

Strength:

Sleek, flattube styling, component video inputs, two sets of AV inputs, COMB filter (although I can't see much picture improvement from similar sets without COMB filters), lots of user adjustible video and audio preferences. Some stuff, like the melody when the set it turned on or off, seems kind of silly.

Weakness:

Doesn't automatically go to closed caption upon muting. I can't figure out Samsung's logic having power standby indicator rather than a power-on indicater. I would have like a set of audio output jacks, but those are rare on small tv's. The cabinet seems largish compared to the screen size, definitely bulkier than most 13" tv's. Also I was disappointed that although this set has the v-chip, the ratings are not displayed on the screen. My Zenith and Panasonic 13" TV's display the show's rating. Also, the set's black-on-gray menu displays aren't as colorful or easy to read as some other models'. No automatic clock set feature. These are all minor complaints, but kind of surprising in a fairly expensive (for the size) TV.

This is my first Samsung product. I bought this brand mainly because it was on sale for $40 off the regular price, and I liked the looks and features of it. I've only had it a week, so I'm still tweeking the color controls. For the price I paid, I'm satisfied, but if I had to pay the normal Target store price of $140, I would have spent a couple more dollars and bought a Toshiba or Sony 14" flatscreen TV.
