Strength:

Clarity and resolution combined with great color balance. Sound qualities overall are excellent except an occasional echo effect when a voice part is anticipated.

Weakness:

Weight. Egad, to get it home I had to take it out of the box and place it into the back sear of my car (too big for my trunk). Almost broke arm as unit is approximately 95 lbs compared to 65 to 70 pounds for a similair sized unit.

As long as the screen is in the Movie mode, the color and viewing is excellent. Sound is extraordinary for a smaller set and I didn't want a big monitor to overpower my audio system (another story in itself. Had family over first evening and with six watching a DVD movie, no one guessed it was only a 24 inch screen.

To owners of 25" Wega, I have heard that there is a problem with the picture bowing slighlty in the left corner of screen (on the larger models) that is most obvious when watching scrolling material (ie CNN stock ticker)or letterbox movies. Have any prblems like this?

Strength:

Excellent picture quality even in a lit room. The screen is deceivingly huge. I can never tell the difference between the 24 and the 27 inch unless they are side by side on the display shelf. The biggest advantage is that there is virtually no glare off the screen if you dont have any light sources opposite the unit. The picture is clear and sharp from all angles, no darkening as you move to either side of the central viewing area.

Weakness:

If you look closely, the edges of the screen are curved a little bit underneath the flat pane of glass. It isnt apparent from the couch 6 feet away, but if you need to sit close it may be a problem. Placement of the unit is very, crucial. There cant be any light sources directly opposite the screen (i.e. windows etc.) or there will be glare and some slight distortion of vertical lines (on a dark screen only, when it is bright, the distortion is unnoticeable.)

Great TV though a bit heavy. The thing weighs a ton because of the three layers of glass used to flatten the screen.

Strength:

Picture is bright and clear. Colors are deep and accurate. Style is very sleek.

Weakness:

My nephew and one of his friends went to the store with me to pick-up the set. Then they carried it up a flight of stairs. Thank goodness for their help: this is one heavy monster.
Turning the TV off is difficult. The on/off button (and the others) are small, unlit, and the same size. Button is difficult to find when your headis even with the top edge of the screen.

My first Sony Trinitron. Very pleased overall. Picture appears deceptively large.

I got this vega tv for the sega dreamcast. But since it's not out i got a toshiba 2109 dvd player. The quality of the video is excellent, the screen is flat as it could be. If you ever see the vega tv at a store you will notice that the quality of the video is better than any other tv. However there is no difference in video when one uses cable tv. The difference is only apparent when using dvd or a high resolution devise.

The good:The picture is beautiful. The color decoder is very close to perfect. The flat screen really does make a difference. Wegas are the best NTSC TVs I've ever seen. Maybe I just got lucky, but my set has ZERO geometry, focus, color, or shading problems. It's perfectly accurate. I did a little calibration to it, and it is just like looking out a window when the source is good enough. Can't comment on the sound; I've never turned the TV's speakers on. Anamorphic squeeze mode in the service menu.
The bad:
Poor high voltage power supply. It won't hold black. Try the two PLUGE patterns on VE. Because of this, brightness must be set a tad too high, which can be a little annoying. Next problem: you must write the anamorphic squeeze to memory _every time_ you change it. Why it won't hold without being written to memory dumbfounds me. But it's worth it. Finally: you can't change the Gamma or Y-DC. There's a service menu option for both. Try it, even write them to memory. It doesn't stick.
The ugly:
The case. Who ever heard if a silver TV?
Last but not least:
The TV has three picture modes: vivid, standard, and movie. You've gotta be a moron to use any mode but movie. In vivid, the TV turns into a Xenon beam headlight blinding anyone in its path. Standard isn't as bad, but it's still too bright and too blue and too contrasty. The positives far outwiegh the negatives. Great TV. Still, it's not perfect. Four stars.

Strength:

Great color and set geometry. Wega sets are the best NTSC receivers currently available.

Weakness:

No component video jacks.

If you are looking to buy a great set...this is the one. At $600...it is steep for a 24" screen...but worth every penny. The price may scare off some customers who think that bigger is better, but you won't be sorry you bought this one. Colors are rich and detailed, geometry flawless, and very user friendly operation. Good sound quailty from the built-in speaker array. The picture modes can be modified to your tastes...so don't think you have to live with the factory settings. In my setup, I have it hooked up to a Dishplayer satelite system w/webtv and it looks gorgeous on both the satelite side and the internet end. This is a hard unit to find, but if you locate one...BUY IT!!! For the few extra bucks it is worth it. My favorite set I have ever owned. Enjoy

Strength:

Very slick looking, great picture when its not in motion, good sound for a TV

Weakness:

Anything that moves horizontally. Don't be fooled. Read the many, many reviews that state this same thing. If you plan on using this for anything other than just TV watching, you're going to get annyoed at the way it hurts your eyes. I wanted to use it for gaming, but that was something that the TV just can't handle. This "the top of the line" and at the price it's sold, it should be perfect, dont ya think?

Look around for other TVs. Sony is using their name to sell this incomplete breakthrough. Yes, it has a nice flat screen. That is no excuse for it to have the terrible motion it does. The preset colors are also terrible. Change them to either the direct movie mode, or do them yourself, 'cause the factory setting sucks.

Strength:

slick cabin, great picture once calibrated, color, geometry, essentially flat cept the corners, incredible in hi rez (DVD), S video, BBE enhencement (SRS) sound, sound outputs, front inputs, standard sony remote

Weakness:

poor motion blurs in low resolution transmission, no component inputs, corner resolution stretch, mucho dinero, scarce, too high trinitones (reds), no top panel buttons

Basically what we have here is what you pay for: a near totally flat crt monitor with awesome picture quality in higher resolution, while really blowing with low resolution due to poor interlacing motion blurs. This is a great set for a dvd player, i got mine ready to setup for a ps2 with monsters. You really need to calibrate the settings once out of the box though. The 27 inch has no problems with the corners, but this one has some slight line curve in the lower left hand corner. The sound quality is great compared to the 20 inch version, nearly on par with the 27 inch (which only runs 5 watts higher). The voltage controller's kinda quirky, as everytime I turn it on, it looks like its about to blow up (but thats just me). Everything else is perfect.

Strength:

Flat tube, color accuracy, adjustability, industrial design

Weakness:

price, SVM circuit not defeatable

I bought this unit after having returned two Sony KV27-V42's that had serious geometry issues. this TV has the quality that people had previously been accustomed to from Sony. The perfectly flat screen is a technological achievement and offers real benefits when watching TV with the lights on, or from an angle. the color can be adjusted until it is excellent.

It is, however, expensive for the size, and I do agree with some of the comments made regarding artifacts when there is fast movemement, though it does not seem to me to be any worse in this respect than any mid-price 27" TV I've seen. Perhaps the smaller size exaggerates the problem?

The 24" WEGA is a good alternative to a 27" TV for someone with a small living room for whom size is not as much of an issue and who is willing to pay more for top-notch image quality. DVD's really come through on this set. The answer to the motion aritifacts may be to disconnect the Scan Velocity Modulation circuit, as one poster has suggested. Unfortuantely, the URL he left for the instructions on how to do that no longer works. Sony should've included a user control (on the remote) for disabling the circuit since most movie-watchers dislike its effect and this set is primarily bought by that crowd. Eliminating the issue would turn it into a true 5-star product (I'm rounding up from 4 1/2).
