Strength:

Beautiful picture with DVD 16:9, looks bigger than a non-flat screen 27"

Weakness:

Same with Damon below, big pink vertical stripe on left side of screen

Despite some of the negative reviews, I decided to replace my old 20" trinitron with the new WEGA. The picture is nothing short of awesome BUT, it does have a 2" wide pink vertical stripe running from top to bottom on the left side of the screen. It's very prominent with either a white or green background (which covers sports on grass and including hockey), but not too noticable on other colors. However, it's bad enough to be unacceptable, and the unit is going back today. I'll replace it once in case it's just from a bad batch, but if the second one is bad, I'll be shopping for something other than Sony.

"A Bug's Life" in anamorphic 16:9 looks so incredible, it's hard to describe.

Strength:

Excellent picture, lots of inputs

Weakness:

Heavy

For the money, a very good TV. This is my first Sony product, other than the Playstation. Nice picture quality and almost enough inputs to hook up everything I got(4 game systems and a DVD player). Bang for the buck? YES!!

WOW! The AMAZING PICTURE CLARITY AND QUALITY IS ASTOUNDING! Once you play Dreamcast, PS2, or watch a DVD on this baby, you will cringe at other TV's. You have to see "The Matrix" on this thing to believe it, but it's worth EVERY penny!

Weakness:

Well, speakers aren't that great, but I imagine if you're getting this TV, your thinking about getting a 5.1 System to go with it, which is a GREAT idea. 5.1's make this TV all the better. Other than speaks, I've found none.

If your in need of a big screen, don't settle for anything less if possible. I needed one, and almost bought several cheaper non-flatscreens, but I'm SO glad I didn't. It costs quite a bit more than other 27" TVs, but you will understand why when you watch it. You WILL NOT be dissapointed in this television, an amazing thing to watch.

Strength:

Nice Cabinet design, Control on top, glare free screen and three A/V input on the back

Weakness:

Pixelization with DVD and DBS sources.

I have read most of the reviews listed on this site for the last 3 months. I can't believe no one has noticed the fact that solid colors are pixelized.
Using the same DBS (Express-Vu) and DVD (Sony DVP-S7000) on my non-Wega 35 inch XBR (made in 1998) the solid colors are displayed perfectly.
Perhaps if you mostly watch cable TV this is not an issue, but then I would recommend buying a less expensive TV.

I have adjust the TV as per Video Essentials and set the optimal calibration conditions as per Anthony Haupkap’s site http://www.isbe.accessus.net/~090/awh/sonypal.html (I highly recommend this site) but still these pixels are there (even when using Video Essentials and displaying the gray scales this happens).

Does anyone else notice this? Am I doing something fundamentally wrong?
Does anyone have the correct service codes to minimize or eliminate this effect? I would appreciate a posting or an email.

PS: I went to Sears this other day and looked at the 32-inch version of this same TV, it display the same “digital picture” as my 27-inch. The salesman at Sears said it was due to their satellite feed.

Strength:

Flat screen, amazing color and clarity, cool looking

Weakness:

This thing's a tank. Green blur coming from the sides

As soon as I saw the Wegas I had to have one. That flat screen looks so cool. I had a one year old Trinitron but gave that to my girlfriend in exchange for the KV-27FS12. The picture on this thing is so clear and colorful, I love it. It is, however, a little too colorful at times as I have had a problem with white screens when there's a green hue along the sides of the screen. It only shows up against white so I can live with it but it gets annoying when surfing my digital cable menu (white). I also had a problem with the top of the set...there's no place for a center channel. I have it covering the buttons. These two things are definitely overlookable, this TV is awesome. DVDs, videogames, they look great. Wega, in my opinion is easily the closest thing to the ridiculously expensive HDTV. This TV is also loaded with adjustment features. It's definitely worth the money and I don't plan on buying another TV for quite some time. I am glad to hear that I wasn't the only one who was sore the day after getting this, I hope you don't have too many stairs to climb.

Strength:

Absolutely stunning picture

Weakness:

a little heavy

If you're at all into video games, you owe it to yourself to get a WEGA.

I don't have my cable installed yet (this is the first tv I've bought, I'm 19 and just moved into my own apartment), but I hooked up my trusty PlayStation through Svideo monster cable.. it's a religious experience.

At first, I was a little dissapointed with the picture - Final Fantasy 9 looked low-res and ugly. But that's because the brightness and sharpness are set WAY too high by default! turn them down a bit, switch to the "standard" setting and make the color temp neutral, and the picture quickly realizes its full potential.

3d is beautiful - textures are smooth, color lush and vibrant, and small details very evident. The cinemas in FF9 were really pretty, too.. I can't wait to try out DVD.

I also tested Street Fighter Alpha 3, which looks even better than the arcade on this set... ultra high res, crisp, beautiful.. colors don't bleed and the picture geometry is perfect - no warping or distorting. This is simply the best in picture tube technology... my first and last set before HDTV.

The speakers are great, for a television! Usually I'm very
dissappointed with TV speakers, but I don't mind holding out until I can afford a nicer audio setup, with these.

it may seem expensive, but the value for your money is incredible, especially considering how expensive they were last year. don't judge the picture by what you see in the store - ask to see a demo of DVD or playstation with svideo or component....
