Strength:

Superior image quality, flatter tube.

Weakness:

Only one composite, and one S-Video. No component video. Get a receiver, and this problem goes away however. Remote is adequate, but becomes obsolete when you start getting into universal remotes with other home theatre equipment.

So far, this TV is a great purchase. I haven''t had any of the problems some of the reviewers have had with the tilted geometry. Mine came straight out of the box, configured properly. This TV is the flattest of the "non-flat" tvs. It''s clear, sharp, and you really notice the distorted corners that a curvier tube produces when you watch other TVs. The Trinitron tube, while perhaps being phased out in light of the Wega, is still a great product. Maybe Sony''s are overpriced - you might be able to get more features from a Toshiba for the same prices, but not the same image quality. I paid for a Sony tube, not for picture in picture, or wacky stereo sound modes. The picture from DVDs is super. No complaints. The degaussing feature is a little loud, but once you get used to it, and realize it''s not going to blow up, it''s fine.

Strength:

Awesome picture and almost flat screen. Good value for the price.

Weakness:

The sound is a bit weak, but I run it through my stereo speakers most of the time anyway. As mentioned before - the tilted picture.

This set is simply amazing. Every time I switch it on I still shake my head at the incredible picture and clarity of this tv. The one problem I had with it, and it seems to be a regular problem with this model is the tilted geometry of the picture. It was obvious with graphics on the bottom of the screen, and mine was tilted down from right to left slightly. Most reviews I have read on other sites have mentioned the same problem, so I fixed it the way those reviewers did - I called up Sony and they referred me to the nearest authorized repair shop. Since this set is extremely heavy (85lbs!), I had the repairman come to me and in a matter of minutes he adjusted the yoke and all is well! Definately recommended, and a fantastic purchase on my part.

Weakness:

video input, remote

Bought this model not knowing it was bottom of line. Trinitron is legendary for flat screen and those lines on blank screens. Picture is same as competitors' high end models, but the flat screen is only difference. Philips Magnavox has more control options but with a 'bubble' screen and more input plug-ins. This model is for beginners of home theater; or waiting for 36" WEGA to be cheaper. must agree with prior reviewer.

Weakness:

No real weaknesses for the price

Purchased for $399 at Circuit City (All 4 Best Buy's in
the area were sold-out and on back-order for this model for a month! Same price though). Looking for a pretty basic 27" TV.I use it with regular cable TV, a VCR, and a DVD player, so it had enough inputs for me. Compared to similarly priced 27" TV's, the picture quality was far superior. I don't use the remote other than for settings and adjustments so I have no complaints about it. Again, only used it for
a short time so far, but I'm very happy with it!

Strength:

Flat screen.

Weakness:

Tilted or Slanted picture, one input.

When I purchased this tv, I noticed a tilt or slant on the screen. I noticed it after 3 days of having it. I keeped it for a week untill I couldn't take it anymore from the frustuation of the tilt. So I returned and got my money back. I purchased a Toshiba 27 inch. Toshiba tv's doesn't seem to have any problems with a tilted picture. I watch a lot of widescreen dvd movies so having a tilted screen isn't attractive. I think Sony should get it's act straight and start making QUALITY products like they used to.

Strength:

The TV is simply outstanding.

This is an update to my last post here--this is the last I promise. I figured out what the problem is with the TV, and I feel like a dumbass. The S-Video cable was not pushed in far enough. I was screwing around with the connection tonight, and the flickering is gone now. So if there are any people out there who are having the same problem that I was, just make double sure the cable is pushed in all the way. Thanks again, Dan.

By the way, the TV should get 5 out of 5. Best bang for the buck. Due to stupidity on my part, the rating should go up.

Remote

In the search for a 25-27 inch bedroom television, I decided on this model. I needed a tv that met 3 requirements:
good picture, S-Video input for satellite receiver and a modest price. This unit met those requirements. I compared it to the RCA-F27664 television. In comparing the two models, I found the Sony to have a much clearer, vibrant picture. I also found the sound to be better from the standard speakers. The surround sound/stereo mode provides good, clear sound. Since this is never going to be hooked up to a receiever, this is all I was ever looking for in a bedroom tv, in regard to sound.

One thing I do enjoy is the on/off timer. I often use this as an alarm to wake me up in the morning. Less annoying the the buzzing sound from an alarms clock. I use the alarm clock as a backup alarm.

The only minor issue I have is with the remote. I use the remote only for setup and configurations since I use the Dish Network remote for changing channels on my satellite receiver (to my knowledge, Sony remotes do not support Dish Network codes only DirectTV codes) I find that some of the buttons are to close together for my fingers. This sometimes results it hitting two buttons at the same time. Additionally, the directional buttons (Up/Down/L/R) are rather sensitive. Pressing the button once usually results as two presses. Just more of an annoyance than anything.

In summary, acceptable price for a bedroom tv, great picture, good sound and the flexabilty I wanted. Remote buttons to close and sensitive.

Strength:

Great picture, stereo sound

Weakness:

Not enough inputs, instructions, shape, remote

I just recently bought this TV at Circuit City. I got a pretty good deal on it but since this is Sony's lowest end 27 in. television with a Trinitron tube you get what you pay for. There aren't enough inputs in the back of the TV (I would really have liked two video inputs) and the remote is simply horrible. It'd be nice if it were backlit. The arrangement of the buttons put all the commonly used buttons far away from each other so you have to constantly look down to find the button you need. The DVD and VCR control functions on the remote are the same so you can only control a DVD player or a VCR player with the remote, but not both or you have to keep entering the manufacturer code each time you want to change. The picture quality was pretty amazing especially when I watched a DVD movie, but I kept noticing two very small black lines on the screen whenever the screen had something white playing in the background. I enjoyed the Virtual Surround feature of the TV and it made watching programs a little cooler (I hate using my receiver to watch regular TV, so this is a feature I really liked) The TV itself is somewhat crooked. It slants to the right by about half an inch, and I've heard that this is a common problem with this model. Overall I bought the TV for the picture, and I am pretty satisfied. It's just the little things that add up that are bugging me and that's why I only gave it 3 stars.

Strength:

Picture quality, multi function remote, great sound

Weakness:

Loud buzz upon turning it on, remote is a little complicated

The overall picture and sound quality of this set blew my mind. I enjoy the tv immensly, however am concerned about the loud buzz each time I turn it on cold. I read other peoples statements on this issue with the kv-27s46 model (picture in picture) but am I the only one getting it from this model? Anyway, great buy, I am quite pleased.
