Strength:

Good Quality Picture

Weakness:

Sound

Very good TV, very nice picture, Sound is low a little but hook on a home theater doesn't matter. the view is what you want from a TV. You have different setting for your screen like, (theater, Standard and Vivid) , very good.

you have alot of other setting too.

Overall very good TV

Strength:

Great Picture quality and good color depth

Weakness:

distortion with video and audio on all-white pictures, and low brightness

Overall it has a good picture, but the audio quality is not very good. I would suggest this model to someone who is planning to connect it to an audio system. It only has one set of inputs so don't plan on attacking more than one external vcr or dvd player to the tv set.

Strength:

great picture, price

Weakness:

could use more inputs

Great picture for the price. I have a home theater set up with a Kenwood reciever. DVD player, Digital Cable, and VHS player goes into Kenwood one s-video cable goes from the Kenwood into TV so lack off inputs is not that bothersome. I have no problem with a slanted picture like som of the other reviews have mentioned. All in all I think this is a great TV for the price it can't be beat.

Strength:

Ecellent quality for the price

Weakness:

no video component inputs

about a year ago, i went tv shopping, looking at all the local stores. i went to sears and found a cool looking tv for $200 and took it home. i was on my way up to college for the 2nd year, so i wasn't even going to open the box until i got up to school.
i caved in and opened the box, it was NOT the tv i was supposed to get. i went back to sears, and i guess some idiot switched price tags under the tv's.

for $200, i realized i couldn't get much, so for $300 i got a sony kv-27s42.

i brought it up to college, and i've loved it ever since. i have the best tv out of all my friends. my only problem was the loud buzz the tv gave off when you turned it on, but after reading some of the stories on here, i just found out it gets rid of the static electricity or whatever.

picture is excellent, but only its best input is only an s-video. that's still good, but not as good as a component video input.

if you're looking to buy a tv and are strapped for $300 cash... buy this model or something similar... you won't be disapointed.

Strength:

I love the picture, sound (mostly). Only one flaw...

Weakness:

The degauss is LOUD!

I just wanted to put in my 2 cents on the annoyingly loud deguass buzz that happens when you turn this TV on. I thought it was gonna catch on fire or something and wanted to return it on the spot. However, I lost my recept (yes boneheaded) and was resigned to a few more weeks before it probably gave out.

Of course, I'm thrilled - though surprised - to learn this buzz is par for the course in this model. No TV I've ever owned has done this and I figured, if I bought the best, things could only get better on all fronts. Seems like SONY of all companys could have silenced this apparently important feature.

Let me say though, I love the picture and the sound, it's an excellent set. I guess it's just individual thing if it this thing bugs you or not.

p.s. It may be difficult to properly judge the turning-on buzz at your retailer if he has the TV's already turned on. The static seems to build up and the noise level increase the longer it's off. If you turn it off and back on there is hardly any buzz.

One layman's opinion.

Strength:

- price - good sony trintron crts - simple effective remote - nice case that won't look dated by next year

Weakness:

- can't turn off vsm - some convergence - only 1 svideo connection

When I started looking for a new TV, I immediately was drawn to the new Wegas. Last year, I told myself, that's the TV I'm going to buy next. This year, the price is almost 1/2 of what it was last year, but keep reading...

I've been using a Sony 20" Trintron for the last 3 years - and it has been one of the best TVs I've owned. My only issue was that the screen size was too small for watching DVDs. So it was time for a 27".

There is no question the Sony Wega (27fs12) is a superior television, with sharper images, higher contrast, etc. But with HDTV right around the corner (US laws are requiring broadcasters to have at least 1 digital channel from next year on), plus some exciting new technology (plastic flat screens, plasma screens, etc) coming within 2-3 years, I had to question the value of the Wega. The Wega's will be near useless for HDTV.

The 27S42 is a good TV, and it's affordable. The Wega has a better picture, but it's not a 30%-40% better picture (as it in cost).

Strength:

Excellent picture quality.

Weakness:

Slanted picture screen.

Sears Canada has an agreement with Sony to service the sets.
This means the Sony warranty will not be honoured by Sony.
The slanted picture was corrected by the Sears serviceman. He opened the back and loosened the yoke screw, rotated it clockwise slightly. If any one wants to do their own adjusting using the on screen service mode, the procedure is as follows: Turn off the TV, using the remote, press display-5-volume+ and power, one second apart. The TV will come on service mode. Write down the setting before adjusting. More info at:http://members.accessus.net/~090/awh/how2adj.html#5.9

Strength:

Excellent picture. Color balance, clarity, sharpness.

Weakness:

One S video input.

Have 2 of these Sony's. The other is now 7 years old and has never missed a beat. Actually got this one for $24.00 at BestBuy on one of those deals whereby you subscribe to MSN Internet service and they give you an immediate $400 rebate. Just paid the tax. We have Dish Network and the picture on both the Sony's is excellent. I compared the Sony to JVC, Toshiba and others and the Sony has the best picture of any of them. The Trinitron tube cannot be beat - have three Dell Computers with Trinitron monitors also and all are excellent for their intended purpose. This Sony could use another video input on the back.

Strength:

Great sound, Crisp clear picture, Built well,

Weakness:

My only real complaint is the picture geometry, its slanted however sony is sending someone up at no charge to adjust it. I do wish it had more video inputs

A very good TV, other then a geometry problem its probaly the best picture i have seen other then the Wegas. Some people are talking about that loud hum when it first turns on well thats compleatly normal its just degausing.

sharp picture

Weakness:

picture slant, speaker buzz on start

6, count'em 6 of these over the past 3 months. 3 from circuit city and 3 from sears.
every one has a picture that's over-rotated to the left.
the slant varies from 1cm to 1 inch. i'm disgusted with this problem. is there any way i can pull it apart and adjust the rotation myself?
