Strength:
Great picture when using descent cables. The CATV input really compromises the picture quality.
Weakness:
I wish it didn't have 3 inches of speaker on each side of the tube. Who uses the speakers on the TV anyway? Why can't I buy a TV without speakers? I bought this TV because of the price and the Sony name. I don't typically watch much TV, I'd rather spend money on audio gear, but my wife is a TV-holic. I feel this TV had the best picture compared to all the other 32" brands I could find at BestBuy, Circuit City and Brandsmart (excluding HDTV models or LCD flat screens). I was initially thinking I'd like to go HDTV, but those were almost 3 times the price and I would need a new satellite reciever and new dish with triple LNB. I decided it wasn't worth the increase in price and will wait a while for the prices to drop before I go HDTV. When they do, I'll use this TV in a bedroom or the office. When I hooked this TV up in my living room I was very disappointed. The picture was a little fuzzy, there was a noticable amount of snow, and the satellite menu bars seemed to waver. Then I tried using a DVD source with r-y-b cables and that made a HUGE difference. The picture was very clear, excellent color and contrast. Since this TV has only 1 r-y-b input, I bought a decent SVHS cable for the satellite input which is almost as good as the r-y-b cables. For the $489 I paid, I'm happy. For the list price of $699, I might have gone with a cheaper JVC or Hitachi model. Similar Products Used: JVC, Sanyo, Pioneer, |
