Strength:

Crystal clear video, 16x9 V-Compression support, remote consistent with Sony line

Weakness:

WAY too heavy for one person to effectively move. Changes in method to turn Close Captioning off/on.

I just got this TV, and I'm already very pleased. I decided to upgrade my older non-WEGA Sony to this model, after waffling over whether I could fit the 32" as opposed to the 27". I do not regret the decision so far. 16x9 V-Compression is fantastic. I think I would note as others have that this TV is good enough to show weak source material. I have all my sources hooked through my Pioneer VSX-D608 via S-Video cables, but even so some video from the sat. dish (Dishnetwork) looks grainy and bad. It looks like the older syndicated stuff (i.e. Seinfeld, Friends, etc) that has been through the mill at local TV stations looks absolutely horrible ont his TV. I have no need for PIP or the built in speakers, so this was the best choice. I decided to pay a little more and give the biz to a local shop with intelligent people, instead of giving Circuit Shi**y or one of the other less offensive big chains my money.

Strength:

EXCELLENT picture with my JVC DVD Player(XV-523GD)

Weakness:

Picture brings out weak cable connection.

I just got my Sony TV and JVC DVD player which I hooked up to my surround sound system and its better than the movies!!! My 1st DVD I purchased and watched was Fantasia 2000. The picture was incredible as well as the sound. One thing I have noticed that the TV's picture show the flaws in a weak cable connection. For example, some commercials are crystal clear and others can be grainy. However I would highly recommend this TV. I have not owned it long enough to address reliability

This is a well built and fine offering from Sony. The picture quality is very good, but the High-End offerings from Panasonic in this price range are better. The Sony is 2D, while the Panasonic Hign-End sets are more 3D in nature. The more expensive WEGA's are better, but this excellence comes along with a very significant price tag.

Why have I purchased the Sony?

Build quality. After one week at home, my 32" SF37 crashed in three main areas listed below.

Wide Screen Tilt.
Tube Hum.
Remote Stopped Working.

The Panasonic was new, a my old 27" Flat Screen has served me well. Hence, my purchase of the Panasonic 32SF37. My dealer sent the new Sony within a week, and I pleased with the purchase.

The Sony has a fine picture and is built very well. For $1,000, this is a difficult offering to beat.

Strength:

Picture. Some people have a hard time giving a 5 star rating. For quality x price, this system deserves all 5 for value.

Weakness:

Heavy as hell. I nearly lost both my marbles loading the dammed thing on my TV stand. This is a true Ball Busting Beast!

Well it been over 3 months now and I still hold on to the claim of my first post right after I puchased this TV. It really worked out well in my small apartment with a few added items to give a more than decent home entertainment experience.

ITEMS ADDED:
Toshiba SD-1600 DVD player. $159 after $20 mail in rebate.
Yamaha YHT-33 Home Theater Package. $499
The appropriate TV stand made for this model. $159

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! I do not claim to be an Adiophile expert, but for the price paid for this system, I have to admit even George Lucas might be impressed. Minimum input and maximum return.

Be sure to get a DVD player with composite video output and a AV reciever with Digital Coax or Opitcal. This will bring the best out of your Sony. Also, you might want to choose the stand buit for the base of the TV. Obvious reasons are looks, other reasons are sound and hight. Better sound separation if you are not using a home theater system.

My next project is to interface everything with my computer using an ATI Radeon All in Wonder video card with a AMD Athlon based system. This television has develped into a little obsession.

Strength:

Good picture, anamorphic verticle squeeze.

Weakness:

Sony customer service, should you have any problems, they will not back their products. Ive spent $470 on a $900 to repair it after in one year of service. The tube went out, $120 labor to fix, paid $175 to fix hi pitch noise. Paid another $185 to have the hi pitch noise fixed again 4 mo later. Sony paid $110 of the labor both times, but the bottom line is I paid 50% of the original purchase price in one year to return the tv to working condition. I've called Sony and they seem to think this is perfectly acceptable. No reimbursement or compensation, just a sorry to hear that, to bad, we stand by our warranty, should have bought an exteneded warranty, no way we will give any money to you. This is not made up I hate this TV now as it has cost me so much. I know have a $1370 refurbished tv and I will never buy another sony product. They have demonstrated that they dont care about their customers.

The picture is good, cross your fingers and hope you never have a problem. The labor warranty is 90 days, parts are a year, but parts arent the cost of repair. At the local sony authorized repair service, the rate is $220 for any repairs. Sony will definetly not take care of you. I talked to supervisors and they said "no" I asked for their supervisors I was told I cannot talk to them. I've tried all avenues to get some kind of reimbursment, nothing has worked. Sony took a big dump on me, sold me a defective TV and wouldnt own up to it and pay for it. This has been the single worst nightmare I've ever had with ANY electronics product from all the manufacuters. I mean come on $470 on a $900 when the TV is one year old. This is unacceptable. Really think twice about sony before you buy, you are on your own as soon as the 90 days is up. If this had been a DVD player, receiver, satellite dish, I would have thrown it away as the labor to fix it would have been more than a new one. I really liked the TV when I bought it, now I hate it, I want to throw it out a window as I basically burned $470 on this tv. It works the same as it did when I bought it, but i cost me $470 to get it back to that condition. Anyways, Sony has lost me as a customer for life. I tell everyone I know and now im warning everyone who reads this. Sony doesnt care about your problems with their products and the customer does not come first, their profits do.
