Strength:

Great Picture after adjustment

Weakness:

Need adjustment to factory settings

The SONY WEGA has great picture but the face color is too red. After adjusting the service settings on colors cut off, the picture is outstanding. The background is so dark that it took time to adjust. Once you get used to it. It is great.

When watching cable channels there is a green tinited bar 1 inch below the top. I removed the center speaker and did a few unplug hoping to de-magnetize it. The problem presisted. Did anyone have similiar problem?

Strength:

Sound, controls, inputs & output jacks, remote, cabinet styling, features, headphones, and most important.."PICTURE"

Weakness:

Some classify the weight as a weakness, but I find this tolerable to get this quality of picture.(The weight is caused by the picture tube. Due to the flat screen aspect, the glass used is much thicker to prevent implosion when the vacuum is created). One other small weakness is a slight waving is noticable at the extreme edge of screen. This is only noticable during scrolling such as the stock ticker on FNN.

Sept.2000 is when I purchased this TV. Having owned the set now for almost 9 months, I thought my review might be useful for someone who would like to hear from someone who has had some miles on this guy.
No problems whatsoever and as each month goes by I feel the more value I got for my money. This TV would satisfy most all of the hard to please. I am no expert, but I do know a really superb picture when I see one.
A plentitude of bells and whistles including headphones, which are nice for those others whom might be sleeping. This TV is a great anchor piece for those of you who are going surround theatre or for those wanting to upgrade.
This last paragragh is for those of you out there that are debating between a large screen projection TV verses a large flat screen tube TV. Hands down, you will not regret going tube type over projection. If you sit anywheres except dead center in front of projections you will be disappointed. And if you have YOUR chair positioned just right, there's a good chance that someone elses is not. Projection TVs are for stages and barrooms. "Optimum Viewing Distance" is something you should consider when puchasing a tube type TV. Deciding between 32" and 36" TVs goes like this; Optimum Viewing Distance for 32" is 12 to 15 feet. Optimum Viewing Distance for 36" is 15 feet and farther.

I went to Tweeter this weekend with my heart set on getting a Panasonic pureflat tv. Sony's always looked grainy to me. I look at both, the XBR hdtv and the pureflat hdtv, both sets looked awesome, you really could not see a differents. So, I know hdtv looks clearer than the FV series, but I couldn't see spending over $2000 on hdtv because it looks a little sharper. I decided to go with the FV series, and I'm glad I did. You can see the lines in the screen if your face is two feet from the set, but I sit about 13 feet away, no more lines! Even at 4 feet its hard to see them. This tv is very flat, it looks beautiful on and off. I haven't seen a thing wrong with the tilt or it being darker on the left side at all, thank God! The factory setting are a little lame, but we all have are own eyes. Theres plenty of hook ups, very easy to use and it looks great with Playstation 2 games. What more could I say, its a step down from Sonys best tv, the only differents is the top model is hdtv. I must stress price range is key. This is not the best tv in the world, but it suits me fine. I'll wait a few years on the hdtv, til they pan everything out, I can't see spending money on all the extra's that go along with it, only to turn around and buy another set a few years down the road thats completely ready for hdtv. This is a great set for the money, Im very happy. Thank you.

Strength:

beautiful picture, large screen,wireless headphones

Weakness:

if you have a bad signal, this television will show it

this t.v. is awesome! i have not had any of the problems that other reviewers have had. the geometry was off a little, but was correctible in the setup menu. i've seen live hdtv before and this is the closest i've seen to that picture quality. the color, sharpness, and contrast are spectacular. the sound is descent, could use a bit more bass for lower frequencies. cruthcfield has the best prices, and will deliver to your home for free. the sony stand was also included in the deal. you had better have at least three guys to help you when it arrives because it is very heavy as everyone has stated. this t.v. was worth every penny i paid for it. i highly recommend it if you have that kind of dough to spend.

Weakness:

tilt problem with picture tube, not progressive-scan/hdtv capable

I've had this TV for about a month now and I've been very pleased. The WEGA models all have great 3d filters that really clean up ghosting and picture quality. The design of the TV is great (I have it set on a black Sanus stand)- the silver finish always elicits positive feedback.

One problem I did have initially was that the picture on the TV seemed tilted to the right. Under the set-up menu I selected 'tilt correction' to fix the problem, but even at a full +5 setting it was still a bit off center. I ended up replacing the unit, and my new one still has a bit of tilt, but much less pronounced that the first unit.

After doing some more research (looking at units in stores), I noticed that almost all the 32 Wegas have a bit of the screen tilt problem. I'm surprised this is such a widespread problem for Sony, but at least the tilt correction feature fixes it.

I really like the IR headphones for the set- very useful late at night when you don't want to disturb neighbors. The 16:9 auto feature basically lets you start watching a DVD and skip having to turn 16:9 on for the TV (on the kv32fv16 you'd have to keep switching back and forth as you watch analog broadcasts and 16:9 DVDs).

It's too bad this set is not HDTV-ready, and unable to process progressive-scan inputs. The kv32xbr400 has a much better picture quality due to Sony's DRC feature, that doubles each scanning line for a total of 960 lines. If you've got the extra $1000 or so, I'd say it's worth the money.

I really enjoy my setup now which consists of:

sony kv32fv26
sanus 203 stand in black
nad t761 receiver
sony dvp550
b&w dm603 s2's for 2ch stereo
bose am15 for ht

Strength:

Awesome picture quality - same good stuff everyone else has to say. Love the headphones!

Weakness:

Headphones don't work off any other input source other than Aux or UHF Coaxial feed -

My stuff:
JBL studio series mains, surrounds & Center
Mirage 200w sub
Sony DB945 DTS Receiver
Sony DVD - (Cheapo model)

I've gotta say that DVD's look killer when hooked up via the component level connections to the back of the TV. Also, I'm using a toslink cable for the audio feed from the DVD player to my DTS receiver and I can't get over how much better it sounds when configured this way. - If you have the option of using an optical cable for audio feed, look no further. Okay... back to the TV.

The remote control isn't too bad - I like the joystick toggle which makes it easy to use the on-screen menu driven options. Speaking of the on-screen menu, I found it very intuitive, I've seen much more difficult systems to work with.

I need help understanding something - I paid like 80 extra bucks for the 16:9 auto enhanced auto mode for when I'm watching DVDs - What the hell does this do for me? If anyone could drop me a line explaining how this is a benefit, that would be great.

This isn't a cheap TV, and its functions and picture quality reflect that. If you can justify spending over a grand for a 32 inch TV, it's by far the best choice out there that I've seen

Strength:

Component video, Auto 16x9 enhanced mode, 3D comb filter, Sony's service manuals kick butt!

Weakness:

Um.....Okay, so it's heavy! You will need a caliration DVD such as Video Essentials to set this TV up properly.
Also, all other TV's will SUCK after you get used to watching this. (Especially your mother-in-law's, who only has cable)

Ok, i'll try real hard to come up with weaknesses.
1) The sony stand is nice, but isn't large enough to hold all of my appliances. So I threw the VCR and CD changer out! I can listen to CD's on my dual deck Toshiba 2200 DVD player. I also have a computer with hundreds of 320kbps mp3's next to this...
Anyway we were talking about the TV..

For those of you who consider buying the FV16 series, spend the extra $80 and get auto 16x9 mode and IR headphones.

I paid an extra $20 to get the Sony Service manual, with has fold-out schematics, but most important, a CD-Rom with all the written info in .PDF format. Very slick!! This has all the on screen hidden service menu modes. You will need access to this screen to fix some very minor geometry problems and to change the HOSC to 11 to fix color banding problems.

I bought this unit, built the stand, setup the TV, fired it up and let it run for 1 hour at minimum contrast setting.
Then I gave it it's first calibration, fixed the component color banding, and within 30 minutes, had the most beautiful picture i've yet to see. (Aside from HDTV)

I don't have cable or DSS. I have a 4dtv (C/Ku Band) receiver. The 3d digital comb filter in this set makes an analog backhaul feed look 100 times better than any DSS picture. S-Video and component video are of course stunning.

DVD's are beautiful on this set. The auto 16x9 mode is nice. You should note, however that the screen intensity is increased slightly in this mode since the picture area is squeezed. Thus, i use the movie picture mode with a slightly lower contrast setting when i'm watching DVD's.

The On Screen Display is also very intuitive. The IR headphones sound really decent considering it only uses 1 AA battery for power! I'm pretty neutral on the remote. I've seen better, i've seen alot worse. I didn't buy a remote anyway, I bought a NTSC video monitor. Remote gets 4 stars.

I used to only watch about 2 hours of TV a week, but now I can't get away from this thing! Non-fatiguing. In the near future i plan on posting a web page dedicated to my HT setup. Periodically check http://homepage.netspaceonline.com/~jreed/ht.htm
to see if it's up yet.
Do NOT judge the picture quality of this TV by the display models in stores, unless they let YOU hook up the source, play with the settings, etc.
If you really need to see this TV before you buy, consider this an invitation if you happen to be traveling by.

Strength:

Superb TV by any standard. Excellent sound. Wonderful clarity. Colour is gorgeous. Very good Geometry.

Weakness:

A bit pricey, but wait till you plug it in,and watch your favorite DVD. I recommend the Sony Stand,as it is VERY heavy.

This is a re-review of the KV32FV26 Wega. This TV is now superb after some adjustments. The clarity is astonishing on a good quality DVD. The colour is excellent at all times regardless of lighting levels. The adjustments are quick and simple to make, thanks to a very precise menu. I have the Contrast backed off to 70%,Brightness +2clicks. Colour, center, tint, center, and sharpness-2clicks. The mode I chose was Standard, with a neutral tint. I found the Velocity scan modulation looked best on the Low setting. The sound and the infra-red headphones are a joy to listen to. I think the stying and overall fit and finish is the best out there. This is a TV you can watch for hours, without fatigue. Without question a Best Buy!
