Strength:

Hell of a picture
Cost-I got this bad boy new for $500

Weakness:

Lack of video inputs
Poor number of Channel Memory Selections
Heavy as %!%&$

Wonderful piece of machinery. You get quality with Sony's in regards to TV's. I am thoroughly happy with it. The lack of video inputs is troubling but can be countermanded by the right receiver. Can't wait to obtain a audio system
that does this tv justice. Again, awesome buy for $500 at the Sony outlet in Castle Rock, CO.
Peace.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality

Weakness:

Heavy. Unless your an NFL lineman, you'll need help lifting this thing.

I own two sony TV's, a 32" and a 20". Sony makes the best TV's in the world, No question about it. I'll probably never buy another brand of television. I have no complaints about any sony TV. I've used the TV for DVD, satellite TV, cable TV and video tapes and it has always looked great.

Strength:

Great Picture, great TV overall.

Weakness:

Heavier than a pregnant cow. Only one set of video inputs RCA/S-Video. If you have an S-video cable plugged in, you can not use the RCA jacks.

All I can say is, get the Video Essentials DVD if you get this TV, because out of the Box the Brightness and Contrast settings are pretty wrong.

I use this in a pretty high end home theater system. It will probably be the last tube based TV I ever buy. The next TV I buy will be a widescreen LCD HD model in about 5 to 8 years (maybe sooner!).

Strength:

picture clarity, color rendition,webtv-may be available at closeout price.

Weakness:

very heavy, cumbersome to move-remote can be frustrating.

When I purchased this set in June 1999 my local dealer showed me both Toshiba and RCA sets in the same price range (about $700). The result:no contest! Sony Trinitron does make a difference! See for yourselves the overall clarity, freedom from geometric distortion and color fidelity make this a superb set for the money. WEBTV and easy in terface with home theater gear are to me added plus factors. The remote does take some getting used to and the set's chassis is rather cumbersome and heavy. All in all though,a truly fine set at a very affordable price. Bravo Sony!

Strength:

Clear picture when there is one.

Weakness:

Repair time

We purchased Sony KV-32S40 Dec. 99. In March 2000 TV started shutting self off. Went in for repairs. Had to be picked up. We couldn't carry it in. Was shipped to Indiana for service. They kept saying they couldn't find anything wrong with the set and wanted to return it. We told them to keep it until they found the problem. Finally the local service manager left it on until it shut off. Decided it was picture tube and replaced it. We were without the TV from March until September, a long 6 months.
Now, July, 2001, we have sound but no picture. Because of our experience with this Sony TV, our second Sony, and lack of support from the Sony company, we would not recommend this television to anyone.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Strength:

Excellent picture

Weakness:

MUST be calibrated with Video Essentials

I use my 32S40 as a monitor for my DVD player, and at this it excells. If you need more video inputs, get a good A/V receiver with S-Video switching, or look at a different model Sony. Otherwise, this set is a bargain. One caveat: you MUST calibrate this set with Video Essentials. The factory default settings are wildly wrong. When you do, you'll be rewarded with vibrant, accurate colors and great picture detail.

Strength:

Trinitron tube (vertically flat, great color rendition), S-Video input, variable audio out, channel labeling, video input labeling, access to service menu by simple remote commands

Weakness:

ONLY ONE VIDEO INPUT! no component input, no s-link, no front A/V input, no 16/9 mode (available in 27" models by way of service menu), only able to label a few channels, did I mention that it only has 1 video input!

I love the color that is reproduced by this television, once I calibrated it with Video Essentials (DVD) I was very happy. Time and time again I am haunted by the fact that it only has one video input, at least it is an S-Video input. I use the S-Video for my DVD & LD Player (I have a Sony AMP that does the video switching), but since my VCR does not have an S-Video output I have to use RF output (you can not use the composite input while a cable is pluged into the S-Video jack), Yuck! The only problem I have had with my TV, was right when I got it, using Video Essentials I was able to deduce that it had a slight tilt to the screen, I called a Sony tech, they sent someone right over and they fixed it (all they did was give the tube a slight twist with a special wrench and wolla!) I was also disapointed to find that this model did not have the 16/9 mode switch in the service menu like some other sony TV's. That and I was only able to label 4 or 5 tv channels before the TV ran out of memory. If this TV had the 16/9 mode switch, a Component input, one more Composite input and the ability to label all cable channels I think it would be the perfect TV. I gave it five star for Value because I got the TV for $988Can last January, where at the time it sold for $1199 everywhere else, and the only other TV's in the $988 range were RCA, Hitachi(bottom end), JVC & Sharp.

Similar Products Used:

Sony KV-27V65, Hitachi 32" (model number escapes me, had bad geometric distortion), JVC 32" (bottom model, no PIP)
