Picture quality, options, size

very heavy, not HD-ready

Excellent TV!! Picture quality is phenomenal. I have had this TV for over 3 years, and, with the exception of the new DLP and Plasma TV's, this is the best TV I have ever seen!

Strength:

Picture clarity, Sound, A/V inputs and outputs, Menu's

Weakness:

Remote should be backlit considering the price. Considerable depth and weight, choose you entertainment unit wisely.

Great TV, I am very impressed with the flat screen. Even DVD letterbox has large viewing area. The menu's is extensive allowing for tweeking audio and video. The simulated sound effect is great. The vivid video choice is too vivid in my opinion, but the movie video choice can be tweeked to perfect color and clarity. The A/V inputs offer flexibility in any setup. I used the TV's speakers for my center speaker using the simulated effect and without question it delivers as much punch as any center speaker on the market. I read several reviews, some bad most good, before purchasing the TV and I have not regrets. This is my first 36" TV, but I compared it to several and I'm glad I chose this one. I highly recommend it.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality. Super flat!

Weakness:

Too heavy to move around (235 lbs). Price of matching stand

We was very lucky to get this brand new unit at the demo price when the local HiFi store had a moving sale (to another location). After looking at several brands and models around $1000-$1200 we decided to buy the demo unit for less than $1200 (built in June 1999). To our surprise and disappointment when we turned it on...NO PICTURE!!! We called the store and after we did several tests over the phone, they decided to give us a brand new one in the box.
Excellent Customer Service! Thanks Magnolia HiFi...The new unit built in August 1999 has no problem whatsoever. We just turned it on and watched it without making any adjustment. The picture quality is so good that I think it's one of the best I've seen on the market. Seems like it was made for our home and we will surely enjoy it for years to come until the HDTV is became the norm.

Strength:

Flat Screen Hype, Looks (cabinet), Sony Marketing

Weakness:

Picture quality, sound quality, build quality, warrenty

Something that I think is funny when reading other peoples reviews is the part where they mention "flat screen" as being a streangth, when it is truly a weakness. I could see why someone would list it and all..... new technology must be better right? Wrong on two parts there! The flat screen is not new. It's actually five years old. And it's not better. A company named RCA introduced a flat screen in one of their 27" Proscan models (proscan is rca's top brand) five years ago. RCA decided that the flat screen distorted picture quality so they took it off of the market. And don't think that RCA sucks either. They make 50% of ALL tubes found in the market(the actual tubes, not the set itself). They make tubes for everyone, including sony. 20% of RCA's tubes are made in Circleville, Ohio.

So anyway, where the tv comes up short is when there are graphics (like sports scores) or many objects (football/basketball/baseball players) on the screen. It exhibits the worst "dot crawl" I have ever seen. Football helmets are blurry and a basketball net looks like a solid white blurr. How awful! I traded my flat screen back to Circuit City for a JVC D series of the same size. The D series carried a better manufact. warrenty (1year parts, 1 year labor vs. 1 year parts, 3months labor on the vega), a better picture, darker tube, and the exact same hook ups like component vid - 2 svid - aud out - and 2 aud vid. The D series is my bed room tv as I have a toshiba 65" wide screen in my rec room as part of a huge home theater.
Hope I've been helpful to any sports fans!

Strength:

Picture quality

Weakness:

Weight, magnetic sensitivity to floor standing speakers.

The first set I bought was a "open box" item from Best Buy. I had it delivered and set up. About an hour later the picture suddenly went black but still had sound. I turned the tv off and back on, picture came back. A few minutes later, the same thing. This happend the rest of the evening. I exchanged it for a new one the next day and so far no problems. I did have to move my Bose 901's out of the living room because of magnetic picture bleed. I could not move them far enough away from the set to correct the problem without moving them about four feet away. There is some color changes while watching satellite tv even with auto color on but I'm going to try monster cables to see if this will correct the problem. Still love the clarity of the picture.

Strength:

Great Picture, component video inputs, S-video

Weakness:

Very heavy set.

It was between the Sony KP-43T70 RPTV. I selected picture quality over size.

I have seen no problems with the set other than the letter box on the screen from DVD was a little off. I was unsure why it was like this so I called Best Buy "where I bought the set" and they seem to have no clue. I called Sony and they also didn't have a clue.

I was at the point of returning the set back to Best Buy and get the 43" RPTV when I found the tilt menu option. I set it to +2 and it fixed the problem.

I had an opportunity yesterday to spend two hours evaluating this second-generation Wega television at a local dealer. Utilizing a Video Essentials DVD and the dealer's Toshiba 9000 player, I readjusted the picture settings (in "Movie" mode with NTSC color temperature) then selected various test patterns. It quickly became clear that Sony has made improvements over the first-generation 36" Wegas (see my two reports on this website about the KV-36XBR200; I have also seen, to date, eight other XBR200/FV1s with the same serious problems).
First, the discoloration so evident on my XBRs was essentially nonexistent. On this FS10 sample only one corner was very slightly shaded and it was visible only on a pure white background test pattern. There was a relatively small red shaded area about 1" wide x 5" high near the right side of the screen, but it was very light in intensity and generally noticeable only on the white test pattern (note that the nearest loudspeaker was over 30 feet from the TV).

Second, the geometry was improved. Using test patterns, horizontal lines were unusually straight everywhere on the screen. Vertical lines were straight on the right side of the screen, but the left side was terrible--the far left side reproduced a straight line that was tilted about 3/4" to the right (going from bottom to top). This new series apparently utilizes new service menu codes, so I could not attempt a fix. As is typical with these units, the TV's tilt adjustment had to be reset (to +4).

Third, this unit was better able to go to black than the previous generation. Also, the 3-line digital comb filter exhibited noticeable dot crawl (when using an RCA coax cable between the DVD player and TV to test the Sony's comb filter). This is one area where the XBR clearly outperforms the standard units--the XBR's 3-D digital comb filter is obviously superior when viewing television broadcasts and non-SVHS tapes.

I spoke to a high-up Sony rep today and was told the new line incorporates a revised yoke, which is responsible for the above-mentioned improvements.

My wife and I will await, and consider purchasing, the new KV-36XBR250, which is due shortly in stores. The one sample of the FS10 discussed herein gives me cautious hope for the Wega line.

Strength:

Four video inputs, Component and S-Video Inputs, Nice sounding speakers, flat tube.

Weakness:

Over 230 pounds! Just more of it to love!!

I have not had this TV for long, but it already has made an impact, and I'm not talking about the sound it made when it landed in my living room (who the heck catapults their products to the buyer's house anyway?!). This 36" bad-boy is made for movies. DIGITAL MOVIES!! The Component Inputs rock! The in-TV speakers are actually quite nice in sound. Tons of options for various sounds and look. Four video inputs and modes! No more system-selector for me!

The flat tube does take a bit getting used to with regular television. Find print and letters (and some people's eyeballs!!) look a bit too jaggy or stretched, but nothing one can't get used to and also adjust with the sharpness tuner. Movies look so good! So big!! Sooo...mmmmmm. Excellent television. Let's hope it lasts!

Four stars only because the remote sucks! For 1500 bucks, I'd think Sony would throw in a kick-ass remote. Instead I'll keep using my RCA DirecTV remote.

DAMM Sexy, Perfect Image quality using satellite(dish network) awesome sound usig just sony speakers, Video Inputs BABY!!!!

Weakness:

Have to kiss is everynight before bed :=_)

AWESOME Baby, i was gonna buy a regular sony 35in tv until i went out to my unles house and saw how u can see the picture at all during the daylight even if u sat close. The only reason i went out and bought another tv was i had a 10% discount, and 18months financing cuz this thing is damm expensive (equals to my paycheck). I fell in love. it was a rush day but i wanted one of these BAD REAL BAD cuz its had the looks. After i decided to buy it the store all ran out to i had to drive 40mi to get another which was risky since the other store had only 3 left and when i got it i saw 2 already sold in one hr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! luckily i got the last one in box:)

ANYWAYS i paid about $1500 w/ everthign including stand and when i got home i was in heaven. The picture looked soo superior than other sony big screen tv that i just cant explain. i could og bought a philpis 55in tv or sony 43in but i just couldnt resist the pictre clarity! Second thing i love is the Video input, now i dont have to keep swithcing the cables everytime i wanna watch a movie or play dreamcast or psx. all conn are conn to the back which i always wished of! since now i never had ONE negative feelings or doubt of returning it!. the Sound Clarity is awesome even at Sony Hi-Fi VCR'S! Tomm i am gettin my panasonic dvd player which will change everything!. even my games i used to hate now i got hooked cuz all of the clarity!. i was looking at HDTV in future but this already serves me well. i chose 36FS10 over the XBR version cuz the features are useless in it but the S-models has about everything u would want to love exect ya night-glowing remote:.

I think not any other projection tv or a small 36hdtv can be comparible to WEGA tv cuz they have awesome tubes that already make movies come alive and thriliing.

I HOPE U USE MY AND THESE GUYS SUGG!
