Strength:

Good Picture with cable and VHS.

Weakness:

Bad picture with DVD.

I've had this unit since Aug 2000. It has only been used with a digital cable box (S-Video) and VHS (composite). Two weeks ago I bought the Sony 560D DVD player and noticed the rolling vertical white bar when using the Vidoe4 Component input. When I disconnect the S-Cable which is from the cable box, the white bar goes away. I returned the 560D for the 570D(silver) and did the same thing, so I know it's not a DVD problem. Sony said that that the S-input is still going through the line and thats what's causing it. I have also started to notice vertical items such as doorways being bended at the corners of the picture...as well as the wavy movment on paning still subjects.

Also, when compairing the dvd hooked-up with component or S-Video on this TV...I noticed that the component input is tented more green and it is very hard to get the colors adjusted properly. The S-cable from dvd=>TV gives better color saturation and unity, but not as clear an image.

Someone is coming over tomorrow to see if any of this can be fixed. If not, I'm thinking of making them take it back and maybe get the Panasonic CT-36HX40. It is $2000. If Anyone has the Panasonic CT-36HX40 or 32HX40, please e-mail me with your thought about the until. I have heard that there is now a HX41 model, but can't find any info on it.

This is an update to the review I just posted.

I got to thinking(which is rare for me) and figured out that a video signal constantly flows out of the cable box into the S-video input of the TV. Hmmmm....could this signal be interfering with the DVD video signal going through the component video input?

So, I hooked the cable box through the S-video again. This time, though, I turned off the cable box and watched a DVD. The white bar was gone.

I now give this TV five stars. It's still kinda expensive, but you gotta pay for the good stuff, I guess.

Strength:

Great design, excellent picture quality, easy to use menu options, DVD movies look great.

Weakness:

Heavy! Only 1 S-video input (but it is the least expensive model).

I like this TV except for one thing.....

I read a review here stating a peculiar problem and it's happened to me also.

I had my cable box signal going in through the S-video input. The DVD signal goes in through the component video input. When watching the DVD player, a white bar scrolls across the screen. So, I ran the cable box through the RCA video inputs. Presto, the white bar disappeared when watching the DVD player.

It doesn't really bother me too much but it's still disappointing. I can still return the TV since I bought it less than a month ago, but it's such a pain to move.

The picture quality for the cable signal is still fine. Besides, in a few years I'll upgrade to an XBR TV (assuming this problems has been taken care of) and get digital tv.

Other than that, I really like this TV. The pic. quality on the DVD player is fantastic and it's surprisingly easy to set up and operate. I do recommend this TV; just beware of this problem.

Strength:

Stunning images when playing dvd's... The images are crisp, almost like photographs... however, dvd's with a poor transfer look terrible on this set... the tv looks beautiful as well... menu navigation is simple although you need the remote to perform most of the adjumstments... I didn't experience the vertical line scrooling across the screen when using component output on my dvd player (toshiba) so I feel fortunate.

Weakness:

The set is a beast... took 3 people to lift it... analog cable and vhs are horrible on this set... so if you watch a lot of cable tv or videocassettes, make sure to test it out at the dealer b4 you buy...

A great set for viewing digital material... but for cable/vhs owners, beware...

Strength:

Flat Screen

Weakness:

Speakers need to have more separation.

Fry's Electronics in the Bay Area has this TV for $999.00.
Going to Good Guys for the "Double the Difference" tomorrow.
The $999.00 price is good till 1/30/2001.

Fry's part number is 2783733.

Have fun shopping.

Does your Sony WEGA KV-36Fs12 make a loud sound in addition to the clicking sound when you start the TV up? Is this normal?

Thanks

Strength:

clean, crisp picture, surprising good sound, appearance, price

Weakness:

this thing is a Widow Maker......it almost killed my friend when we moved it in

I just moved into a new house and home theater was project #1. For the past 6 months, I have been eyeing this tv. I watched the price go from $1499 to $1299....and I finally bought it at $999. What a steal! They could not keep these on the shelves at my local Sam's Club. I am just happy that I was able to get one.

I am extremly happy with this tv....the only fault that I have with it is the vertically scrolling bar which occurs when you have a DVD feed through the component input and a satellite/cable feed through the s-video input. I could fix this by running the video connections through my receiver but my system is not set up that way. So I just use a regualr RCA connection for the video input.

My system:
36" Sony WEGA (KV-36FS12)
Sony SAT-A50 DSS
Harmon Kardon AVR 110
Harmon Kardon HKTS1 Speakers
Panasonic RV-31k DVD Player
Acoustic Research Pro Series Interconnects

Strength:

Great picture, good color and black & white rendering, good sound for such small speakers, easy to setup and adjust without using the manual. $999 PRICE!

Weakness:

HEAVY! Otherwise none that I can see.

I was shopping for a 36" to replace a high-end Hitachi 50-inch that my new digs wouldn't have room for. I set a ceiling price of $999 on what I would spend because I sold the 50" to a sister for $900. The same model is selling for $1299 everywhere ...and the fs13 for the same amount.

I accidentally found it at Sam's Club for $999 while doing some other shopping with that sister (I don't have a Sam's near me in Chicago). I thought the price was a mistake!

It wasn't. That's their everyday price and given that I got a flat-screen WEGA (with NONE of the problems listed in other reviews) for $999, I'm one HAPPY CAMPER.
