First I would like to ask why is there no listing of the 36XBR450 or 32XBR450 on Audioreview.com ? People have to have their reviews of those TVs listed under last years XBR400 (like I am doing). Similar Products Used: Panasonic CT-36HX41 |

Picture quality, built like a battleship, head-turning envy
Weakness:
This thing is HEAVY and EXPENSIVE (typical comments on high-end equipment whether audio or video, actually) This review is for the KV36XBR450. Just got mine from Circuit City. This is the best television set on the market, period, end-of-story. Forget the rear and front projection jobs, as well as other lesser direct view sets. This Sony Wega will bridge the capability between today's and tomorrow's sets better than anything else, since it does the 16:9 thing by focusing the guns in the letterbox, not in the empty black fields above and below the picture; preserves the ability to view 4:3 source material; has component video capability; and is HDTV compliant with the additional purchase of a separate set-top box. I compared the picture side-by-side with other so-called "digital-ready" sets and the Sony hands-down had a better picture, not marginally, but significantly. I will not get into all of the different features and settings on this TV since anyone can look at the previuos postings and consumer review sites to read abiut that. What I will comment on is the feeling you get when you see just how much better and clearer the picture is on this bad boy. Again, this is not an evolutionary improvement but a revolutionary one, since the picture is so stunning in detail, clarity, color, and impact. Yeah, it costs over 2 grand no matter if you get it online or at a store (once shipping, tax, and a stand are added in), but you know what?.....I haven't thought about the 2 grand since I turned on the damn picture....it is worth every penny and more actually, and that's the way I define a bargain. This is a follow-up to a post I made in April, 01. I have used the XBR400 for about 4 months now. As mentioned in my previous post, the set is incredible and I would highly recommend. However about a month ago I started noticing an intermittent problem. About 4 out 10 times when you turn the set on, you would either see A) very noticeable shades or blotches of green and yellow in three corners - upper left, upper right and lower right. Or B) only one blotch of green or purple in the lower left corner. To remedy the problem, I waited until the set warmed up (about 15 minutes), shut if off and on and the picture was normal. I called for service and Sony doesn't have a clue. They think it might be a degaussing problem. Has anybody experienced this or a similar problem, and what did you do or have done to correct? Thanks |

Cable and Satellite are NOT as bad as everyone says
Weakness:
Ok crowd mentality. Yes it's HEAVY! First off, great TV. From all that I can tell, the new Sony 36HS20 is last years 36XBR400. If anyone knows differently please let me know. The only difference I can find is that the set is now charcoal gray instead of silver and looks much nicer. I have seen the 3:2 pull down in the XBR 450 and I can’t see any difference. So $100 less and a nicer looking set made my decision. Similar Products Used: Sony KP-43T75, 32" Mitsubishi |

Documentation and sensitivity to less-than-perfect signal Love It! Picture is absolutely amazing, but as others have mentioned, it is sensitive to less-than-perfect signal. I have DirecTV through a Sony digital DSS receiver. With my old TV, satellite was the best picture. With the XBR, the picture from my land ant is better. Go figure. Similar Products Used: None |

A great TV!
Weakness:
"Bait & Switch" practiced by Ultimate Electronics I purchase the KV-36XBR400 TV (Manufactured August 2000) yesterday (June 2001) and I am Very Impressed. I've never seen anything that can compare to the quality of this television. It's awesome, as they say, in the vernacular. My problem is with ULTIMATE ELECTRONICS, where I purchased the TV. I got about $400 off on the KV-36XBR400 for taking the "Opened Box" model, after having been shown a used KV-36XBR450 model. The salesman, Paul, at the ULTIMATE ELECTRONICS store had shown me 2 of the 400 models. They had cosmetic damage - scratches, slightly deformed speaker grill, dusty, etc. I did not want those. He said that he had another "Opened Box" unit, and I purchased that one. When the TV arrived, it was the used floor model, no box open or otherwise. No warranty papers, just the black remote control (no batteries) but I did get a manual. The speaker grill was deformed and bent at the top and bottom. I intend to call the salesman, Paul, who may have switched the units inadvertently. The asking price was $500 - I ended up paying $2150. Perhaps this is a case of "BAIT & SWITCH", perhaps not. I will call ULTIMATE tomorrow and try to find out. Similar Products Used: There's NOTHING similar! |

cable reception and weight Well my wife and daughter was out of town for 2 weeks so I took this opportunity to shop around for a new direct view flat screen TV. the 1st one to catch my eye was the Samsung TSK3092WFX a 30" 16:9 wide screen direct view TV. And I was amazed by the picture, so I went online and found a great price of $1200 (m.s.r.p. $2000+) so I ordered one, Similar Products Used: 35" sony trinitron, samsung 16:9 TSK3092WFX |

Strength:
Picture quality, ease of menus, sleek look, number of connections
Weakness:
weight-the fact that 100% of the weight is in the front of the TV, slight color problem as described in the corners-but that is not a deal breaker. Was very fortunate to find this floor model at Circuit City marked at $1800, talked the sales guy down to $1600, and promised him I would purchase a service contract, so I did, and total out of pocket cost was $1775. The television worked great, and with some Video Essentials calibration, it is up to speed. Direct TV picture is wonderful, and DVD with component hook ups is even better. Once calibrated, the picture is the real reason you buy the set. Similar Products Used: Sony 27" Wega |
